Time to Bring About the Charmpocalypse is the fourth episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath.

Story[]

Day 10[]

The David and Goliath tribes meet Jeff Probst, who notices Bi limping and with bandaged right leg. Bi explains that she tore her MCL at the last Immunity Challenge. While her condition is not life-threatening, she fears it would hurt her MMA career. Due to this, Bi chooses to leave the game. The Goliath tribe shows respect to Bi's decision. Jeff notes that the David tribe has suffered one obstacle after another. Bi bids her tribe goodbye and leaves the beach.

With Bi gone, Jeff surprises the survivors with a tribe switch; the David and Goliath tribes will be renamed Vuku and Jabeni respectively, and a third tribe, Tiva, is introduced. With sixteen players and three tribes, the one who opens an empty canister will be sent to Exile Island and will join the tribe that loses the next Immunity Challenge. Carl's canister does not contain a buff, sending him to exile. Dan is unhappy to be separated from his close ally Kara, with him being on Tiva and her being on Vuku. Christian, a wrestling fan, is excited to know John is on his tribe. Jeff notes that the Goliaths have a 3-2 numbers advantage over the Davids on all three tribes. The new tribes are as follows:

The most disappointing part for me was watching Kara open hers. I was like, "What is hers? What is mine? I was like, ugh!" I was robbed.

With the new tribes in place, the survivors head back to their camps while Carl is given a map to Exile Island. Going to a new beach, the Tiva tribe receives a map from Jeff, who suggests they should begin working on the shelter.

S37 christian t
Christian
The entire tribe system has been gerrymandered against the Davids; that's not good! We're down 9 to 7, but Carl's off an island somewhere now, and everyone else evenly distributed to the minority. So we're in a lot of trouble.

The Vuku tribe arrives at camp, and Alec remarks that the old David camp is better than the old Goliath's with all the chairs and hammocks.

S37 alec t
Alec
When Jeff said, "drop your buffs," this could be trouble. Fortunately for us, we got three Goliaths: so myself, Kara, and Natalia; and then two Davids: Davie and Elizabeth. So, we have the numbers, so I'm super hyped about that.
S37 davie t
Davie
This is really messed up: Every single tribe has Goliaths as the majority, so that absolutely changes our strategy. We gotta figure out a way to get in with these Goliaths. I am ashamed to say that I haven't befriended too many Caucasians; not that I haven't wanted to, but I just been around black people my whole life. But I'm a black nerd; I drive a PT Cruiser. I'm the black guy that white people like to approach, so hopefully I'll be able to fit in.

While collecting coconuts, Elizabeth and Kara share life stories. Believing Kara is getting too close with the Davids, Natalia is concerned.

S37 elizabeth t
Elizabeth
They've got us outnumbered, so getting out of this alive is gonna be hard. But I'm not afraid of hard work, so it's definitely time to pull out all stops, and I'm gonna do everything I can to find some common ground.
S37 natalia t
Natalia
Kara, my best ally in this game, my most important ally in this game, is getting along with Elizabeth way too much. They have too many things in common, and I'm getting nervous. These two are getting way too close, and I'm not okay with it.

Having the opportunity to be alone with Kara, Natalia confronts her, but Kara assures she is loyal to her. Later, Kara tells Alec of Natalia's worry but confirms a David will be going next.

S37 kara t
Kara
All of a sudden, Natalia is nervous, she is worried that I might jump ship; and it concerns me. I'm not surprised at all; I knew that for whatever reason, it's hard for her to trust people, but we have a foolproof plan, and screwing this up would be dumb.

Carl arrives on Exile Island and ponders on his seclusion.

S37 carl t
Carl
Of course I'm a truck driver, so I've been alone, but I'm able to pick up the phone, stop at a truck stop, or go talk to somebody. So as far as being on Exile, I've never been alone like this before.

As Carl goes further in the woods, he is stopped by a note which informs him that a game advantage is hidden somewhere within a bunch of coconuts floating across a rocky shore. Carl rushes to find the advantage while being hit by the strong tides. He eventually finds a coconut sewn shut and pries it open. To his surprise, Carl discovers the Idol Nullifier, which blocks the use of a Hidden Immunity Idol. After reading the note that comes with the Idol Nullifier, Carl finds solace that his exile will not be for naught.

S37 carl t
Carl
If I guess correctly who's playing an idol, I can play this nullifier, put their name down, and that idol becomes null and void. Finding this advantage is huge, but I have to play it in the right manner. So when the time comes, I'm gonna use this nullifier just like the sling that shot Goliath right in between the eyes and took him out.

At the Jabeni tribe, Mike assesses his new tribe and deems it to be the worst of the three tribes physically.

S37 mike t
Mike
I feel this new tribe is the Davids of the Davids of the Davids! I think everyone on the Jabeni tribe would be the last five standing if they're picking teams, and we're all on one tribe. I'll gonna see Tribal Council a lot the next couple of days!

As the Jabeni tribe gets to know each other, Natalie is displeased having the Davids around and wants them gone. She breaks the conversation and insists to begin doing chores around camp.

S37 natalie t
Natalie
It feels weird having the Davids in my camp; I want them gone. I didn't feel like going through the whole introduction and getting to know them because the Goliaths are in control; we still have the numbers.

Natalie sits by the fire barking orders at Angelina, Lyrsa, and Nick, to the three's dismay. As Natalie walks off, Nick asks if Natalie has been consistently acting the way she does, in which both Angelina and Mike confirm. Angelina even describes Natalie's recent behavior as "the mellow version." Later at well, Mike tells Nick how Natalie's personality is grating on him. The two feel good about each other and agree to form an alliance whom Nicknames, "The Rockstars." As a show of trust, Mike tells Nick that Dan has the Goliath's Hidden Immunity Idol.

S37 angelina t
Angelina
The typical Natalie style is to sit in her throne, look at her peasants and tell them what to do.
S37 nick t
Nick
It wasn't even a few hours into this tribe where I saw a crack, and her name is Natalie. Even though Natalie is bossiness is tough to listen to, it's almost like sweet music in to my ears because I know it's not just tough on me, it's tough on everybody. My initial goal coming into this situation was just to chill out, try not to play too fast and too hard because that's what I love to do, but I know there's no way a David's going to win this game playing with only Davids; and I see the opportunity to build a relationship with Mike.
S37 mike t
Mike
I really like Nick. He seems very unpretentious, very salt-of-the-earth, so I'm happy to (plays air-guitar) with him to create that bond. Nothing would make me happier than if this Rockstar alliance bore fruit, but I have more risk right now than [Nick] does because the Goliaths do have the numbers, so we'll see if I can live up to that alliance.

The new Tiva tribe wastes no time making the shelter. Christian is amazed by John using the machete with relative ease. Christian tries to chop the bamboo on his own but is unable to, only to be helped by Dan, who teaches him to swing the machete at an angle. Christian later asks John about his professional wrestling career and jokes he wanted to apply to be the comptroller of Slamtown. Christian's growing closeness with the big, strong guys worries Gabby.

S37 christian t
Christian
There's a different vibe when you have three of these stereotypical Goliaths wish us; when John just swings his machete and smashes through this piece of bamboo. That's not how I chop bamboo, just by the stylistic difference. I'll do whatever I can in order to contribute as much as I can; but at the same time, I have to make sure I'm at the top of my social game so I gotta go on a charm offensive here; and that's really understating it. I need to charm nuclear warfare, so time to bring about the charmpocalypse.
S37 dan t
Dan
Christian...He wants to help, he wants to be involved; but at the same time he's willing to put down that ego and listen to other people, which is great.
S37 john t
John
Christian is a quirky guy, and I for sure have a ton of quirkiness in me. I've got a really confident public persona; I'm used to to performing in front of thousands of people but sometimes in smaller groups like this, I do get awkward and run out of things to say, self-doubt, insecurities, social awkwardness, sure I got that big time.
S37 gabby t
Gabby
I already feel Christian has a special bond with his dude bros. It makes me worry a little bit about my place on a tribe. I always struggle between knowing that people probably like me but having that little voice of self-doubt that says, "what if they don't?"

Gabby breaks down to Christian, but Christian comforts and assures her he remains loyal to her and she fits in fine with the tribe.

S37 christian t
Christian
Gabby and I are peas in a pod. We're in this together. When I'm at my low, she is strong; when she's at her low, I'm strong. I'm there to dry her tears, I'm trying to keep her head in the game.
S37 gabby t
Gabby
I feel like Christian is more so much better being charming and being likable and being himself; and I envy him for that. I just feel like they are the cool kids at the lunch table and I'm sitting there asking if I can sit with them. Right now I feel like the only person I can lean on is Christian, and I don't know if that's enough. I feel like I'm in a desperate position because I'm scared of going home!

Day 11[]

The tribes arrive at their next Immunity Challenge. After explaining the mechanics, Jeff reveals they are also playing for reward in the form of milk, coffee, and danishes, but only the first-placing tribe will win them.

Tiva takes an early lead with Gabby calmly leading Dan and John. Jabeni is in a close second with Angelina directing Nick and Natalie. Vuku lags behind with Kara struggling to command Alec and Davie. Gabby takes Tiva's lead further at the maze portion by giving short but specific instructions. Vuku catches up while Jabeni takes last place getting stuck at a corner. Tiva maintains the lead at the balance beam portion with Vuku still behind them. Tiva arrives at the end of the balance beam allowing Gabby to reach the bag with the ball for the table maze. Jabeni continues to tail as Angelina and Natalie have communication problems. Tiva begins to run the table maze with Gabby now instructing Alison and Christian. Vuku closes the gap while Jabeni nearly goes off course. Natalie complains they are losing time, but Angelina reminds her to stay calm. Kara retrieves the ball for Vuku, allowing her to direct Elizabeth and Natalia at the table maze. Jabeni finally reaches the balance beam and gains more ground. Christian and Alison successfully land the ball at the end of the table maze, winning Tiva reward and immunity. Vuku accidentally drops their ball to the gutter, forcing them to start over, allowing Jabeni to close the gap. In a close race for second, Jabeni secures immunity, sending Vuku to Tribal Council.

S37 kara t
Kara
The Immunity Challenge today didn't go as planned; but we've got three Goliaths, two Davids, tonight's Tribal Council is really just pick Davie or Elizabeth.

The Vuku tribe returns to camp, and Kara takes blame for the loss. Natalia cheers Kara up, telling her she did better than what she could have.

S37 elizabeth t
Elizabeth
Coming back from the challenge, I was thinking now that we lost, it's a 50-50 chance I could be going home, so it's really disheartening. But I'm not quitting yet even though I'm outnumbered. You're not gonna get rid of me that easily!

With Natalia and Kara away to collect water, Elizabeth invites Davie for an idol search. Without telling Elizabeth he already found the idol, Davie accepts for the fun of it. While digging, Elizabeth discusses voting Natalia out.

S37 davie t
Davie
Elizabeth was like, "Davie, we gotta go right now, I think I know where the idol is." She doesn't know where the idol is because I have the idol. I had it since Day 5. Elizabeth wants to try to get rid of Natalia, but my gut is telling me those three Goliaths are solid right now. Luckily, with my idol, I do have a safety net but I don't want to use that early in the game.

Davie follows Natalia and Kara to inform them Elizabeth is voting Natalia. Davie explains he did not do this out of desperation, but to express openness in working with them. Natalia has become determined to vote Elizabeth.

S37 natalia t
Natalia
If there was any doubt who needs to go, it's gone. Elizabeth is a threat to me; she's getting close with Kara, my best ally in this game, I just see Elizabeth as a threat just because of that; but she's also talking about voting me out, so I'm like, "get this girl out, she needs to go!"

At the beach, Elizabeth tries to persuade Alec that Natalia is a bigger threat, and by turning against the Goliaths, it would help him in his game resume' coming to the Final Tribal Council. This leaves Alex perplexed because it will send a bad message to the Goliaths in the other tribes. Elizabeth, however, is open to throw Davie under the bus to save herself.

S37 elizabeth t
Elizabeth
Without an idol, I need to flip one of those Goliaths, and I feel Alec might be the better option. Alec is very careful in what he says and what he doesn't say, so I don't know what's going inside his head; but at this point, to save my ass, it became clear to me I had to write Davie's name down tonight.

Alec goes to Kara and Natalia to tell him Davie told him he is willing to vote Elizabeth out, which convinced him that Davie could be the bigger threat. Natalia is vehement to vote Elizabeth, believing she is just pretending to work them; because she believes Davie can bring Carl to possibly form an alliance with them. Before leaving the conversation, Natalia demands confirmation from Alec and Kara, in which both give, though Alec is becoming frustrated not being listened to.

S37 alec t
Alec
In my opinion, Davie is a bigger threat, but Natalia has to have it her way; so I am not having my opinion heard. I get the feeling that Natalia doesn't really trust me, which makes working with her difficult. It's tough.

In the shelter, Natalia also forcefully seeks Davie's support, and if he does not follow, she will describe him as having no future in the game. Alec enters the shelter as well when Natalia tells him to keep mum about the plan. Natalia's bossiness finally strikes a nerve with Alec, venting to Kara that Natalia did not need to bully Davie into voting with her.

S37 davie t
Davie
All three of them together seem as tight as they want us to think they are. But now, I'm wondering if Alec might listen to another plan.

In the hammock together, Davie talks to Alec about the idea of blindsiding Natalia. Alec admits that due to Natalia's recent bullish behavior, he considers flipping.

S37 alec t
Alec
Voting out Natalia is a big risk, but Natalia is really bossy; she's been barking orders at camp, and honestly, it's pissing me off. I'm gonna have to make a decision: do I stick with the numbers and get rid of Elizabeth, or do I make a big move? Thing is, if I flip, Carl is gonna come back, and the Davids would have the numbers. It's exactly like surfing; if you're paddling for a wave and not fully committed, you're probably just gonna fall, and this could very well blow up my entire game. So, I'm gotta think about what I'm gonna do, and it's gonna be something that happens on the spot at Tribal.

The Vuku tribe enters Tribal Council. Carl follows and takes a seat on the jury bench to watch the proceedings. Natalia confidently states it is one of the Davids who is going home. Elizabeth expresses concern it could be her, she promises her loyalty to the Goliath majority. Davie also pleads his case, saying that Elizabeth has a family and is financially challenged, which could gain sympathy from a jury. Davie also brings up the fact he was left out in the David minority Elizabeth led during the David's first Tribal Council. Natalia blatantly expresses excitement over playing the game and if she goes home, she will have no regrets. Finally fed up by Natalia's bravado, Alec stands up and whispers to Elizabeth, much to Natalia's dislike. Kara assures Natalia that Alec is still in with the plan but Natalia remains uneasy. As the Goliaths continue whispering to each other, Davie remarks he is in the middle of it all and not being talked to.

In the end, Natalia votes Elizabeth as planned, while Kara votes Davie. However, Alec joins Davie and Elizabeth in blindsiding Natalia in a 3-1-1 vote. Alec tries to apologize to a visibly irate Natalia but she dismisses him. As Jeff extinguishes Natalia's torch, Natalia asks if Kara knew about blindsiding her, but Kara firmly denies it. Alec smiles at Natalia, further infuriating her she walks away. Jeff tells Carl to join the Vuku tribe on their way back to camp, where a new Buff is waiting for him.

Challenges[]

Reward/Immunity Challenge: Blind Barrow
One member from each tribe would act as the caller. The caller would sit on a barrow, directing two blindfolded members to push them through a series of obstacles: first a set of speed bumps, then a maze, and finally a balance beam. At the end of the beam, the caller would retrieve a ball, then direct the two other blindfolded members to navigate the ball through a table maze and into a slot. The first two tribes to get their ball into the slot would win.
Reward: The tribe that places first wins pastries, coffee, and iced coffee.
Winners (in order of finish): Tiva and Jabeni

I'm just upset because I knew the second we got to this tribe, there was a shift in Alec. I should have went with my gut, and I did not go with my gut. I think I should've just made a big move and continuously make big moves than play stupid. I-I mean I played a stupid game tonight. I'm just pissed, and I want to hurt him so bad.

Trivia[]

Secret Scene[]

  • Tiva Celebrates: After winning the Immunity and Reward Challenge, the new Tiva tribe celebrates their winning by cheering with their brownies. In a confessional, Gabby Pascuzzi celebrates that she won the challenge when she felt like she needed it the most. She also notes how fun it was bossing "two buff hot guys" around and that it was a complete role reversal. Gabby believes this challenge gave her the boost she needed to be more herself.[2]

Behind the Scenes[]

Other[]

  • The title was originally listed as Time to Bring About the Charm Apocalypse.[3] As for the line itself, it was said by Christian Hubicki in a confessional about how he needed to bond with the former Goliaths on the new Tiva tribe.
  • This is the first time since "Dire Strengths and Dead Weight" where only the first place tribe wins reward at a combined Reward/Immunity Challenge with more than two tribes.
    • Because that episode's challenge ended with a tie for first place, this is the first time that multiple tribes have won immunity at a challenge with only one winning reward.
  • As the Vuku tribe entered Tribal Council, Kara's torch was accidentally extinguished along the way.
