The Best and Worst Reward Ever is the fifth episode of Survivor: Palau.

Challenges

Reward Challenge: Sea Salvage
One at a time, one member of each tribe sits on a small pontoon while the rest of the tribe uses a rope and pulley to haul them to above an underwater shipwreck, diving down to grab one of 14 submerged sake bottles, surfacing, and traveling back to the tribe platform. The first tribe to retrieve six sake bottles wins.
Reward: Beef stew and root beer to be enjoyed while watching the other tribe's Tribal Council.
Additional Stipulation: Before the losing tribe voted at Tribal Council, the winning tribe was informed that they had the power to vote for one member from the losing tribe to receive immunity.

Trivia

• This is the first time Koror attended Tribal Council, and their only visit during the tribal stage of the game.
• This is the only time Katie received a vote against her.
• This is the first time a tribe votes for an opposing tribe member to earn an Immunity Necklace.
• This episode marks the first tie vote since "The Sole Survivor" in Marquesas, and the first tie vote to be resolved by a revote since "The Final Four" in Borneo.
  • This episode also confirms that the revote still exists for tied votes, after some players that competed between Thailand and Palau had made the faulty inference that all ties would go straight to a rock draw if an open discussion failed to produce a consensus, with no chance for a revote (a twist later used in Game Changers) due to the tie vote in Marquesas going to the discussion with no chance for a revote.
• Coincidentally, both players eliminated in this episode were the ninth and final persons picked for their respective tribes during the Day 2 Schoolyard Pick.
  • Additionally, Willard was picked before Angie and voted out just before her.
• This episode and the following episode aired on Wednesdays instead of the normal Thursday airdate, due to CBS's coverage of the 2005 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
