Before the game began, the castaways were asked to give up anything they were attempting to smuggle in, or they would get ejected. Tayfun had tried to sneak in various items and had to hand them all over, garnering the suspicion of the other contestants. During the marooning, where he got placed on North Island, Tayfun's position would ultimately worsen when he threw his tribe's machete into the ocean, thinking it would float. Tayfun's early blunders, alongside his flamboyant demeanour, irritated his fellow tribemates, who accused him of being lazy and caring too much about his appearance, thus isolating himself from them.
Tayfun was ultimately safe for the first two rounds of the game due to North Island winning the first two Immunity Challenges. After North Island lost for the first time at the third Immunity Challenge, Tayfun was the main target. He attempted to get the female members to vote against Alastair Brogan but was unsuccessful. Meeta Bose, who asked her tribemates to vote her out if they lost an Immunity Challenge due to lack of will to stay, would ultimately be spared as Tayfun was voted out at Tribal Council in a unanimous 5-1 vote.
