This is the season premiere of Survivor U.K. (2023).
Story[]
Day 1[]
Traveling on a ship filled with supplies in the waters of the Dominican Republic, the eighteen castaways are about to begin a journey of a lifetime. The eighteen players were then divided into two tribes: Caletón which would always wear orange, and La Nena, which will always wear blue. They tribes then participated in their first reward challenge, The Marooning. Members from both tribes hurriedly released their rafts while their tribemates scramble for supplies, where the commotion has sent fruits, baskets, and other survival items flying everywhere, from the deck to the ocean. The first tribe to get to their beach and light a fire that could burn through their rope won their supplies. Caletón started with a major lead, but ultimately struggled in building the fire, allowing La Nena to come from behind and win the supplies that they collected, as well as the supplies Caletón collected.
Tinuke |
“ | I'm already worried about food. It's gonna be really really hard getting through this next day without all of that food that we lost. I can't even tell you how gutting it is to lose all of that | ” |
Ashleigh |
“ | We won all the most important things! We won tools, which is great. We won food and we won fire. And I just think the most important thing is that we're off to such a good start that we can actually relax a little bit now because we've got all those things to actually have a decent first night | ” |
When La Nena arrived back at camp they celebrated with fire and loads of food, but recognised that their shelter must be built off the ground and in quick time as the sun would be going down eventually, with everyone being assigned a role off the bat. Sabrina and Pegleg quickly managed to make fire for the tribe. Lee tells the other men of the tribe that he is a professional boxer. La Nena joke about the likelihood of Caletón having started their fire.
Christopher |
“ | The fire is lit and it is like everything is falling into place, and this is like day 1! | ” |
Pegleg |
“ | Caletón are just... They're on the back foot now; they were devistated, their morale must be really low... But then we won so it's their problem not mine (laughs) | ” |
Richard |
“ | The current fire situation at camp is that we don't have any. It is quite dire at the moment and actually the start of my Survivor game is that I'm going to have to properly survive. | ” |
Next door at Caletón, supplies were meagre and their food supply was low. While Richard and Tinuke attempted to start a fire, other members of the tribe worked on the shelter. a majority of the tribe was put off by Shai Ravindra barking out orders and not helping with the shelter.
Nathan |
“ | Today building the shelter, certain people were much more helpful than others, however that's not worth calling out. I don't want to play a role of leading and telling people what to do | ” |
Jess |
“ | I think Shai's communication skills aren't the greatest, he can sometimes be a little bit rude to people and a bit abrupt, and sometimes, and you know what else?, I know that he has annoyed a few people because I see him just like standing there giving out directions and he's not even doing anything himself | ” |
Day 2[]
At the Immunity Challenge, Dead Weight, each tribe had to keep their nine buckets held up in the air. Underfed, Caletón had a poor performance, with Leilani dropping out of the challenge shortly after it began, giving her weight to Nathan and Shai. Eventually, Richard, also holding two buckets, dropped the weight, costing them immunity.
Richard |
“ | I think we're gonna have to get rid of some of the potentially weaker players and that's looking like Leilani. | ” |
Leilani |
“ | I knew the second I handed over to Nathan that I had a huge target on my back. It's only just beginning and it would just feel snatched away from me at this point. | ” |
Back at camp, Caletón began strategizing. Tinuke and Richard found Shai's negative attitude to be a hinderance to tribe morale, but his performance in the immunity challenge made him seem more valuable. Leilani's name was thrown out by Richard, as she was the first one to drop out of the immunity challenge, and because she was the oldest and smallest woman on the tribe. Leilani threw out Shai's name to Jess and Matthew, mainly due to his bossy attitude and how it dragged down tribe morale. Nathan believed the same but Shai's strong performance made it hard to consider him for elimination, instead believing Richard was the weak link of the tribe, as he bit off more than he could chew and implied that Richard threw the challenge. Nathan and Tinuke pondered voting out Richard against voting out Shai, Nathan believing Richard intentionally lost the challenge, and that his decision to give up could affect the tribe's performance in future challenges.
Jess |
“ | I'm so confused. I feel like it's going to be quite split between Leilani and Shai. | ” |
Tinuke |
“ | If I put down Richard's name and he doesn't go and he knows that I put him down, I'm, like, screwed. | ” |
The Caletón tribe arrives at Tribal Council where Joel asks Nathan how camp life has been, with Nathan replying that the tribe are doing as well as they can be without food or shelter. In defense over dropping out of the challenge, Leilani argued that she was a strong woman and that the challenge simply didn't appeal to her strengths. Tinuke then said that the tribe was mostly going to vote based on challenge performance, and that winning is necessary. Jess supported Leilani's claim, saying that a tribe could not advance purely on brute strength, believing that the bigger picture needed to be considered. Richard owned up to dropping the barrels in the challenges, arguing that it slipped out of his fingers, believing the entire tribe was vulnerable to go home. Nathan highlighted his and Shai's challenge ability, saying Richard was valuable for trying to help, but the attempt being in vane made it pointless.
Joel explained to the Caletón tribe how the voting process went and the tribe cast their votes. Richard's mistake in the challenge resulted in his elimination, and the tribe sent him packing in a 7-1-1 vote.
Challenges[]
Challenge: The Marooning
The tribes must collect as many supplies from a ship as possible and get it all on an allocated raft. They then must use the raft to paddle to shore, where they then must build a fire to burn through a rope which holds a large crate filled with supplies.
Reward: Flint, the crate's contents and supplies collected by both tribes during the marooning
Winner: La Nena
Challenge: Dead Weight
The tribe members will each hold on to a rope connected to a barrel containing 22.5 kg (49.6 lbs). If at any point a player can no longer hold on to their barrel, they may hand their rope to a tribemate and bail out of the challenge. The tribe that holds on longer than their opponent without having any of their barrels drop wins.
Winner: La Nena
