Challenges[]
Redemption Island Duel: House of Cards
Each castaway begins the challenge with 150 wooden tiles. Using the tiles, they must build a house of cards up to 8 feet. The first two people to reach this height stays on redemption island. However, if no one finishes after 30 minutes, the person with the tallest house of cards when time expires would win.
Additional Stipulation: For finding an advantage on Redemption Island, Joël was given 5 additional tiles for the challenge.
Winners (in order of finish): Nicolas Brunette and Sylvain Béland
Reward Challenge: A Leg Up
Castaways must balance a ceramic vase on the end of a balance beam with one leg. When they can no longer take the pain or lose their balance, their vase will drop and shatter, eliminating them from the challenge. The last person with an intact vase wins.
Reward: A dinner with peppered steak, fries, red wine, and sparkling water.
Additional Stipulation: Everyone was invited to the dinner for other dishes, where the challenge winner would assign them to the six other castaways.

Perched on a floating roof-shaped structure, castaways must stand and balance on narrow footholds. If at any point they lose their balance or fall off the structure, they are out of the challenge. The last person left standing wins.

“ | Mon rêve, c'était de participer à Survivor. Il y avait 3,000 personnes qui se sont inscrit et je me suis quand même rendu dans le top huit. C'est sûr que là je suis déçu parce que c'est l'émotion que je vis là, mais à long terme je suis sûr que je vais pouvoir regarder mon parcours avec fierté. J'ai fait preuve de tellement de résilience, j'ai joué pour mon frère faque... bye, mon frère. Je pense que d'avoir la reconnaissance en lien avec le fait que j'ai été un gros joueur, c'est flatteur. Je pense que maintenant je peux le prendre de façon positive puis avancer avec ça. Je crois que dans notre saison de Survivor, il y a peu de joueurs qui ont pris des risques, il y a peu de joueurs qui se sont mis dans des positions minoritaires et qui ont été confortables dans celles-ci. J'ai sorti des sentiers battus, je voulais montrer au Québec qu'il y avait plusieurs façon de jouer à Survivor et être un poisson. Ce n'est pas quelque chose que j'avais envie de faire. J'ai démontré que Survivor c'est pas seulement une ligne droite vers la victoire, mais qu'il y a plusieurs chemins pour essayer de se rendre à la fusion et plus loin dans le jeu. J'ai inventé une stratégie qui n'avait jamais vu le jour à Survivor en demandant à Johannie de me donner l'indice. Je suis quand même fier de cette réalisation là. Le fait que cette année, il y a un groupe qui décide de constamment jouer ensemble qui sont impénétrables, ça rend la tâche extrêmement difficile pour les gens qui sont en bas du classement. C'est moi qui menait la rébellion. Je ne sais pas si quelqu'un va prendre le relai pour essayer de casser ça. Je le souhaite de plus profond de mon coeur et si quelqu'un fait quelconque tentative, cette personne aura mon vote à la fin du jeu. En tant que membre du jury, mon vote va aller vers une décision stratégique. Donc, ce que je veux savoir, c'est qu'est-ce que toi, stratégiquement, tu as fait pour avancer dans le jeu, mais également qu'est-ce que tu as fait pour faire grandir la game, qu'est-ce que t'as fait pour changer la game et qu'est-ce que tu as fait stratégiquement toi et non vous pour te rendre à la finale. Avant de mourir, mon frère m'a dit que si il avait quelconque pouvoir dans le après, il ferait tout ce qu'il peut pour réaliser toutes mes rêves et donc de participer à Survivor. Sept mois plus tard, on annonce que Survivor Québec va avoir lieu. Je me suis plongé. J'ai noyé mon deuil dans la détermination à réaliser ce rêve là avec lui, j'ai changé cent pourcent de mes habitudes de vies et c'est ce qui a fait en sorte que moi et lui nous avons pu jouer à Survivor. Avant de venir ici, je me suis moi-même écrit une lettre dans laquelle je disait : « Ne laisse pas le jeu changer Joël mais laisse Joël changer le jeu » et c'est un peu ça que j'avais en tête tout au long de l'aventure. Les 31 derniers jours ont été les plus difficiles de ma vie mais les plus beaux de ma vie. Si t'es assis quelque part dans ton salon en train de te demander si t'as la force mentale et physique de le faire, sache que je ne l'avais pas et je l'ai trouvé pour venir ici. Inscris-toi pas juste à la deuxième, mais à la troisième et à la quarante-neuvième saison de Survivor Québec. Tout le monde devrait vivre ça dans sa vie. C'est la plus belle expérience que j'ai jamais vécu. My dream was to participate in Survivor. 3,000 people signed up and I still made it to the Final Eight. Indeed, I'm disappointed right now because of the emotions I'm feeling, but in the long term I know I will be able to look at my journey with pride. I was so resilient, I played for my brother, so... bye, my brother. I think that the fact I was seen as a big player is flattering. I think that I can now take it as a compliment and move forward with that. I believe that in our season of Survivor, there were few players that took risks and a few players that put themselves in minority positions and were comfortable with it. I played outside the box, I wanted to show to Quebec that there are multiple ways to play Survivor and I wasn't comfortable with being a goat. It was not something I wanted to do. I demonstrated that Survivor isn't only a straight path to victory, but rather multiple paths to try and get to the merge and further in the game. I invented a strategy that has never happened in Survivor by asking Johannie to give me the clue. I am still proud of this achievement. The fact that this year, there is a group that decided to constantly play together and were impenetrable makes the job extremely difficult for those who were at the bottom of the totem pole. I was the one who led the rebellion. I don't know if someone will take over to try and break that. I hope from the bottom of my heart they will and if someone makes an attempt, they will have my vote at the end. As a member of the jury, my vote will go towards a strategic decision. What did you do, strategically, to move forward in the game, but also what did you do the develop the game, what did you do to change the game, and what did you do strategically to get you and not your group to the finale. Before he died, my brother told me that if he had any powers in the afterlife, he would do anything he can to make all my dreams come true, including participating on Survivor. Seven months later, they announced Survivor Québec. I dived in. I drowned my grief in the determination of realizing this dream with him, I changed one hundred percent of my life habits and that made it so that he and I could play Survivor. Before arriving here, I wrote a letter telling myself: "Don't let the game change Joël but let Joël change the game" and this is what I had in my head the entire journey. The past 31 days have been the most difficult of my life but also the most beautiful of my life. If you're sitting somewhere in your living room wondering if you have the mental and physical strength to do it, know that I didn't have it and I found it to come here. Apply to not only the second, but the third and the forty-ninth seasons of Survivor Québec. Everyone should experience this in their life. It's the most beautiful experience I've ever had. |
