Survivor México (2023) is the fourth season of Survivor México.

This season marked the first two-time winner of Survivor México: Pablo Martí, who beat Aranza Carreiro and Sergio Torres in the public vote.

Production

The fourth season was officially confirmed on March 30, 2023. As shown in the promotional material, there was an invitation to apply for digital casting; also, for the first time, it was announced that in-person casting dates would be held in different cities around the country. A month later, on April 29, 2023, the official start date of the season was revealed to be May 22, 2023.

Twists/Changes

• The Dominants vs. The Chosen: Ten dominant castaways from past seasons of Survivor México return to defend their place and battle against ten new castaways named "The Chosen" who are looking for their chance to become the Sole Survivor.
• Reward Steal's Secret Totem: With a First Impressions vote, the castaways had to choose who they considered the weakest member of their respective tribe. These two chosen contestants would have the opportunity to search for a Secret Totem that was hidden somewhere on the beach, before all castaways could join the search after several minutes. The player who found it would get the right to steal one reward from the opposing tribe in any Reward Challenge.
• Deliberation Hut: Some castaways from each tribe, typically chosen through a voting process involving a question, are taken to a tent in the jungle. Inside the tent, they must make decisions that can change the course of the game, having to negotiate and reach an agreement before the time set in the hourglass runs out or else be punished.
  • Forced Sit-Out Advantage: On Day 12, the tribes had to sent who they considered their leader. The chosen castaways had to negotiate who would get two pizzas for their tribe and who would get a mystery box. It was later revealed that the mystery box had an advantage, which gave its holder the power to block a tribemate or a rival tribe member from playing in a challenge, except for the Extinction Duel. It would be usable up until the beginning of the merge.
  • First Tribe Switch: On Day 15, the tribes had to sent their most trusted member. The selected castaways had the mission to exchange a man and a woman from their tribe with the rival tribe. In addition, they had to negotiate who of the two would get a clue for the Hidden Immunity Idol.
  • Reward Steal's Totem: On Day 39, the tribes had to sent their bravest member. The elected castaways had to negotiate who would get a Reward Steal's Totem, which would function the same as the one given on Day 1. However, the tribe of whoever obtained the totem would be the only one to send someone to Exile that cycle, who in turn would be automatically nominated to the Extinction Duel.
  • Immunity Necklace Steal: On Day 45, the tribes had to sent who they considered their leader. The chosen castaways was given a chance to accomplish a mission in order to win an advantage that would allow them to steal an Immunity Necklace from its owner at one Tribal Council. This advantage would be only usable for the next three Tribal Councils. The mission had to be accepted or rejected by both leaders, which consisted of temporarily swapping one member from each tribe, but no one but them as leaders should know that it was temporary; if the truth was revealed or found out by anyone else before the swap was over, the mission would be failed and they would not obtain the advantage.
• Exile: A place where the castaways would be entirely separate from the existing camps and fend for themselves until the next Tribal Council, denying them the possibility to participate in the following challenges. In most cases, the tribes decide who to send to Exile by a verbal vote, although on occasion it may be the castaways sent to the Deliberation Hut who decide who to send. In addition, the exiled contestant from the losing tribe of the Immunity Challenge would automatically be nominated to the Extinction Duel, with the exception of Cycle 3 and Cycle 7 in which any exiled castaway would be invariably nominated. The exile ended in Cycle 8.
  • Exile's Hidden Idol: In Cycle 3, a special idol was hidden in the Exile, whoever found it would be saved from the automatic nomination and would leave the Exile to return to their tribe, where they would choose a tribemate to take their place.
• Individual Immunity Challenges: The members of the tribe(s) fight each other for an Immunity Necklace, the winner(s) gains individual immunity and sometimes a special power. During the pre-merge, the winners would gain the power to directly nominate a member of their tribe if required.
  • Intruders: In Cycle 9, each tribe had to choose one member to act as an intruder, who would compete against the opposing tribe for its Immunity Necklace, instead of competing against their own tribe. Besides gaining individual immunity, if an intruder won the Immunity Necklace, they would have the power to directly nominate a member of the rival tribe in case that tribe lost the Immunity Challenge.
• Nomination Mechanism: The tribe(s) attend Tribal Council to nominate a certain number of players.
  • Cycle 1, Cycle 2, Cycle 4, Cycle 6, and Cycle 8: The losing tribe in the Immunity Challenge would have three nominees. The first one would be the tribe's exiled castaway, another one would be chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner, and the last one by tribal vote.
  • Cycle 3 and Cycle 7: The castaway(s) chosen in the Exile Vote would automatically be nominated. Additionally, the losing tribe in the Immunity Challenge would nominate two more castaways, one chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner and the other one by tribal vote.
  • Cycle 5, Cycle 9, and Cycle 10: The losing tribe in the Immunity Challenge would have three nominees. The first one would be chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner and the other two by tribal vote.
  • Merge: The three castaways with the most votes at Tribal Council would be nominated.
  • Final Seven and Six: The two castaways with the most votes at Tribal Council would be nominated.
  • Final Five and Four: The castaways who did not win the Immunity Challenges would automatically be nominated.
• No Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie in the Tribal Council vote, there will be no tiebreaker vote and all tied contestants will be nominated. This would modify the number of nominees originally planned for the cycle.
• Extinction Duel: The nominees of the cycle face a challenge in which the loser is eliminated.
• Replacement: Due to the evacuation of Jero Palazuelos, another returning player, Fharid Sámano, entered the game on Day 8 to replace him.
• Rehashed Hidden Immunity Idol Mechanism: On Day 15, it was announced that a Hidden Immunity Idol was hidden at each camp. This season, the idol was to be played before the votes were cast and would be usable up until the beginning of the merge. Also, a fake idol was hidden at each camp, which had no power and whose utility was left to whomever found it.
• Additional Castaway: On Night 25, during the Tribal Council, it was announced that a former castaway would return to the game and join the Toros tribe, turning out to be Adianez Hernández.
• Second Tribe Switch: On Night 29, the tribes attended an impromptu Tribal Council, where each had to vote for who they considered to have the most leadership skills. After that, it was revealed that a tribe switch would occur. The most voted from each tribe would remain in the same tribe, and they would also choose a tribe member whom they would protect and stay with them. The twelve remaining castaways would be spread into the two tribes, leaving each tribe with eight members.
• Power Blocker Advantage: On Day 51, the tribes chose their member with the most powerful and clear mind to face a special mission in the jungle. The selected castaways competed in a challenge, and the winner obtained a secret reward. The reward was later revealed to be a Power Blocker Advantage, that could be used to block a castaway's vote at one Tribal Council, or to block the power of a Hidden Immunity Idol or an advantage after it has been played. In the latter case, the owner of the idol or the advantage would only be unable to make use of the item's power at that time, but would not lose the item itself. This advantage would be usable up until the beginning of the merge.
• Merge: The merge occurred with ten players remaining. The castaways were rewarded with a shower, beauty salon treatments, a feast, a dance party, and a night in a luxury villa.
• Leadership Challenges: In each cycle of the merge, the castaways compete in a challenge to become leaders and be able to choose the members of a temporary team by a Schoolyard Pick for some of the respective cycle's Reward Challenges.
• Final Three and Public Vote: The Final Three would face a public vote to decide who would win the title of Sole Survivor.

Ultimately, both decided that no one would go to Exile this cycle. ^7 A Hidden Immunity Idol was played, making its user immune from the vote. ^8 A Reward Steal's Secret Totem was played, allowing the user to steal a reward originally won by the opposing tribe and give it to their tribe. ^9 Eduardo and Gary were subject to a temporary tribe swap until the Exile Vote. ^10 Nahomi and Pablo were chosen to compete in a special challenge to win a secret reward. ^11 Aranza played her Immunity Necklace Steal and stole Pablo's Immunity Necklace at Tribal Council. ^12 Pablo used the Power Blocker Advantage on Gary's Hidden Immunity Idol, blocking the idol's power. ^13 The Toros tribe was to nominate two members by tribal vote. Since Gary and Pablo were the only castaways eligible to receive votes, there was no need for a vote and they were nominated by default. ^14 Combined Reward and Leadership Challenge. ^15 Combined Reward and Immunity Challenge. ^16 After Duggan and Aranza won the Immunity Challenges, the rest of the castaways—Eduardo, Pablo, and Sergio—were automatically nominated to the Extinction Duel. ^17 After Pablo and Sergio won the Final Immunity Challenge, the rest of the castaways—Aranza and Duggan—were automatically nominated to the Extinction Duel.
