Survivor México (2022) is the third season of Survivor México.

Julián Huergo won the title of Sole Survivor, defeating Kenta Sakurai and Nahomi Mejía in the public vote.

Production

The third season was confirmed on April 13, 2022. Weeks later, on June 1, 2022, the official start date of the season was revealed to be June 15, 2022. The next day, the host, Warrior, departed for the Dominican Republic, while the castaways gradually departed the following days.

The season finale was scheduled for September 24, 2022, however, the impact of Hurricane Fiona in the Dominican Republic affected the show's locations and filming areas, postponing the finale to September 30, 2022. On Night 104, the three finalists were evacuated from their camp and sheltered in a safe place. A few days later, filming resumed with the contestants and production helping the affected locals. During an impromptu Tribal Council, it was announced to the finalists that the finale was delayed, lengthening the duration of the game by adding a new cycle, so they would have to build a new shelter from scratch to survive the last days.

Twists/Changes

• Returning Player: Former Survivor México contestant, Gabo Cuevas, returned for another chance to win.
• Medallion of Power: Since the marooning, this medallion would be hidden in some challenges until it was found. The player that finds it would obtain the Medallion of Power, which gives them the power to steal a reward from the opposing tribe. It is usable up until the beginning of the merge.
• First Impressions: After the first two Reward Challenges, the castaways had to make their first vote-off, choosing who they considered the weakest member of their respective tribe. These two chosen contestants (Javier Ceriani from Halcones and Catalina Blanco from Jaguares) would enter the jungle where they had to choose between a clue for the Hidden Immunity Idol or a toolkit for their tribe, both had to make the same decision.
• Rehashed Hidden Immunity Idol Mechanism: A Hidden Immunity Idol was hidden at each camp. Unlike previous seasons wherein the Hidden Immunity Idol would be played after the votes have been read, the new format forces the holder to play it after the votes have been cast, but prior to the votes being read. By its nature, the Hidden Immunity Idol could only be used in Tribal Councils, but not in the Exile Camp Vote.
• Exile Camp: A place where the castaways would be entirely separate from the existing camps and fend for themselves until the next Tribal Council, denying them the possibility to participate in the following challenges. In addition, the exiled contestants would be directly nominated to the Extinction Duel. Before the individual Immunity Challenge the first three cycles and as of Cycle 4 after the challenge, each tribe had to decide by an impromptu verbal vote who to send to the Exile Camp, with the condition that the castaways cannot be exiled two consecutive cycles. The exile ended in Cycle 6.
• Individual Immunity Challenges: The members of the tribe(s) fight each other for an Immunity Necklace, the winner(s) gains individual immunity and sometimes a special power. From Cycle 4 to 6, the winners had the right to protect a member of their tribe from being exiled. For Cycle 7 to 12, the winners would gain the power to directly nominate a member of their tribe if required. In the first two cycles of the merge, the winners would be allowed to vote twice at the next Tribal Council.
• Nomination Mechanism: The tribe(s) attend Tribal Council to nominate a certain number of players.
  • Cycle 1 to Cycle 6: The castaways chosen in the Exile Camp Vote would automatically be nominated, plus the losing tribe in the Tribal Immunity Challenge would nominate one more castaway by vote.
  • Cycle 7 and 8: The losing tribe in the Tribal Immunity Challenge would have three nominees, two by vote and one chosen by the Individual Immunity winner.
  • Cycle 9: The third place tribe in the Tribal Immunity Challenge would have two nominees by vote, while the second place tribe would have one nominee chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner.
  • Cycle 10 to 12: Two Tribal Immunity Challenges would be performed. The third place tribe in the first challenge would nominate one member by vote, then this tribe and the second place tribe would face the second challenge, where the losing tribe would have one nominee by vote and another selected by the Immunity Necklace winner. If the same tribe loses both challenges, it would have three nominees, two by vote and one chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner. In the event that the tribe does not have an Immunity Necklace winner, all of its nominees would be decided by vote.
  • Merge: The three castaways with the most votes at Tribal Council would be nominated.
  • Final Six, Five, and Four: The castaways who did not win the Immunity Challenges would be automatically nominated.
• No Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie in the Tribal Council vote, there will be no Tiebreaker vote and the tied contestants will be nominated, this would modify the number of nominees originally planned. As revotes are not possible, in case of a null vote, none of the players of the tribe is nominated.
• Extinction Duel: The nominees of the cycle face a challenge in which the loser is eliminated.
• Deliberation Hut: Some castaways from each tribe are taken to a tent in the jungle, where they must make decisions that can change the course of the game, having to negotiate and reach an agreement before the time set in the hourglass runs out or else be punished.
  • First Tribe Switch: On Day 10, the tribes had to sent their strongest member, Halcones selected Julián Huergo, while Jaguares chose Yusef Farah. Their mission was to exchange a member of their tribe with a member of the rival tribe. They could not reach an agreement and assumed the punishment, which turned out to be that they would be the members who would switch tribes.
  • Secret Letter: On Day 14, the tribes had to sent their most intuitive member, being selected Yusef from Halcones and Gabo from Jaguar. Their mission was to negotiate who would get five slices of pizza for their tribe and who would get a secret letter. The Halcones tribe got the food and the Jaguares tribe got the secret letter. The letter was later revealed as a disadvantage, the rival tribe would not send anyone to exile that cycle, while the tribe that had the letter would send two members. The next day, the two castaways from the Jaguares tribe with the most votes in the Exile Camp Vote were exiled, while the Halcones tribe was immune.
  • Exchange of Exiles: On Day 22, the tribes had to sent a member they considered observant and calculating, being selected Nahomi Mejía from Halcones and Ale Saadi from Jaguar. Their mission was to guess who the rival tribe would send to exile and with how many votes, writing down their answer on a parchment, while the other members of the tribes were subjected to a mock vote to find out the correct answer. Whoever had the answer closest to the correct one, would save from exile and nomination their tribemate previously voted in the Exile Camp Vote, exiling instead the rival tribe member who was written on the parchment.
  • Second Tribe Switch: On Day 42, the tribes sent their leaders who were previously elected by a vote, Halcones selected Nahomi and Yusef, while Jaguares chose Cuchao Pérez and Viridiana Álvarez. Their mission was to decide which leader from each tribe would switch tribes, Cuchao and Yusef were the chosen ones.
  • Tribe Abandonment: On Day 49, by an impromptu vote in their camps, each tribe sent its two supposedly least liked men. Cuchao and Kenta Sakurai were selected from Halcones, while Julián and Santi Valverde from Jaguar. Their mission was to decide which man from each tribe would leave his tribe and go to an unknown location, but in return would have immunity. Julián and Kenta were chosen, it would later be revealed that they would be part of a new tribe called Los Otros.
• Replacements: Due to the quitting of Tefi Valenzuela, Fátima Pérez entered the game on Day 16 to replace her. After Fátima was evacuated, Jacky Ramírez joined the game on Day 46 as the new replacement.
• Mutiny: In Cycle 6, the winner of the first round of the Extinction Duel would have the option to switch tribes at will. If the mutiny occurs, the winner of the second round of the Extinction Duel would also automatically switch tribes. The offer was not taken, however.
• Los Otros Twist/Tribe Expansion: On Day 40 and 46, the person eliminated will not be sent home but will be sent to Exile Camp and await to reenter the game as part of a new tribe called Los Otros. On Night 49, during an impromptu Tribal Council, Los Otros tribe was introduced, comprised of the two castaways previously eliminated and the two men selected in the Deliberation Hut on the same day.
• Third Tribe Switch: In Cycle 8, the tribe that did not win the Immunity Challenge would lose two of its members. The first would be the Extinction Duel loser who would be eliminated for good. While the second would be chosen from the two winners of the Extinction Duel, with their tribe deciding by a vote who would remain with them, the least voted would switch to Los Otros tribe.
• Symbol Challenges: Beginning in Cycle 9, men and women would compete in an individual challenge each cycle to win a Symbol, with one male and one female winner. If a castaway with Symbol(s) is eliminated, that castaway may go home with their Symbol(s) in their pocket or bequeath it/them to any of the active castaways, with no more than one being bequeathed to each player. The castaway with the most Symbols at the final eight would secure a spot at the Final Tribal Council.
• Merge: The merge occurred with twelve players remaining. The castaways were rewarded with a shower, beauty salon treatments, a feast, a dance party and a night in a hotel.
• Captaincy Challenges: In each cycle of the merge, the castaways compete in a challenge to become captains and be able to choose a temporary team by a Schoolyard Pick for the respective cycle's Reward Challenges.
• Vote Blocker Medallion: During the Survivor Auction of Cycle 13, a secret medallion was up for bid as a covered item. It was revealed to allowed its holder to block a castaway's vote at one Tribal Council before the votes were read.
• Final Three and Public Vote: The Final Three would face a public vote to decide who would win the title of Sole Survivor.

Nahomi got the closest answer to the Mock Vote result, by winning, Karim was saved from exile and nomination, exiling Gabo instead for being her answer. ^6 Combined Reward and Immunity Challenge. ^7 Instead of being permanently eliminated from the game, these two castaways would be sent to Exile Camp and await to reenter the game as part of a new tribe called Los Otros. ^8 A Hidden Immunity Idol was played, negating all votes against its user. ^9 The winner(s) of the Individual Immunity had to directly nominate a member of the tribe. ^10 Jacky received immunity in the next cycle after joining the game, however, she decided to give up the immunity. ^11 Los Otros automatically received immunity in the cycle after the tribe was formed. ^12 Cuchao used the Medallion of Power to steal the reward originally won by the Jaguares tribe, giving it to his tribe, Halcones. ^13 Yusef gave up his immunity at Tribal Council. ^14 All votes cast were negated, causing a null vote. Per the rules of Survivor México, none of the tribe would be nominated. ^15 Since this castaway was the only player nominated, they were eliminated by default. ^16 Combined Reward and Captaincy Challenge. ^17 A Vote Blocker Medallion was played, negating a castaways's vote. ^18 By being the castaway with the highest number of Symbols, Nahomi secured a spot at the Final Tribal Council, automatically obtaining immunity in the final cycles. ^19 After Cyntia, David O., and Julián won the Immunity Challenges, Cuchao and Kenta were automatically nominated for elimination. ^20 After Kenta and Julián won the Immunity Challenge, Cyntia and David O. were automatically nominated for elimination. ^21 After Kenta won the Final Immunity Challenge, Cyntia and Julián were automatically nominated for elimination.
