Survivor México (2020) is the first season of Survivor México.

Eduardo Urbina became the first Sole Survivor of Survivor México, defeating Ximena Duggan in the Final Challenge.

Production[]

Throughout the month of May 2020, the casting was open online through the program's website.

Its release was scheduled for the beginning of June, but it had to be postponed due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, until finally on July 1, 2020. it was announced that the definitive release would be on July 5, 2020.

On Day 29, the Hurricane Isaias impacted the beaches of the Dominican Republic, causing contestants to be evacuated from their camps and taken to a shelter. The contestants returned to their camps the next day, resuming the competition.

Twists/Changes[]

Big Number of Reward Challenges: Unlike the American version with a maximum of one reward challenge before elimination, the Mexican version performs up to six reward challenges.
Individual Immunity Challenges: From pre-merge, the members of the tribe(s) fight each other for an Immunity Necklace, the winner(s) gains individual immunity and the power to directly nominate a member of their tribe if they attend Tribal Council. This power would be available until the final six.
Nomination Mechanism: Instead of the most voted person on the Tribal Council having to leave the competition, the tribe(s) attend Tribal Council to nominate a certain number of players.
- Pre-merge: In the Mexican version, two Tribal Immunity Challenges are performed. If the same tribe loses both challenges, it would have three nominees, two by vote and one chosen by the Immunity Necklace winner. But if each tribe wins one challenge, then both tribes would have two nominees, each with one nominee by vote and another selected by the Immunity Necklace winner, for a total of four nominees.
- Merge: When there were two Immunity Necklace winners, each would directly nominate one castaway and the tribe would nominate another by vote. When there was only one Immunity Necklace winner, they would directly nominate one castaway and the tribe would nominate two by vote.
- Final Five: The tribe would nominate two castaways by vote.
- Final Four and Three: The castaways who did not win the Immunity Challenges would be automatically nominated.
No Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie in the Tribal Council vote, there will be no Tiebreaker vote and the tied contestants will be nominated.
Elimination Duel: The nominees of the cycle face a challenge in which the loser is eliminated.
Tribe Switch: On Day 9, the tribes attended an impromptu Tribal Council, where the formation of new tribes was announced, with seven members each one.
Hidden Immunity Idols: On Day 10, it was announced to the participants that Hidden Immunity Idols would be hidden around the camps, those that could be played on oneself or on another person after the votes have been read or the decision of the Individual Immunity winner has been made, and thus be saved from nomination at a Tribal Council.
Early Merge: The merge occurred with eleven players remaining. On Day 31, instead of competing for Individual Immunity for one member of each tribe, the women and men competed in separate challenges and only one man and one woman won immunity. That same day, both tribes had to go to the Tribal Council, where the merge of the tribes was announced, as well as they would have their first elimination at that very moment.
Captains' Challenge: Before the Reward Challenges of Day 36 and 42, the players competed in a Captains' Challenge, in which the two winners became captains and could choose their teams for the next challenge. Prior to this, both captains would compete again to determine who will start the Schoolyard Pick.
Final Challenge: Instead of a Final Tribal Council, a Final Challenge took place with the final two contestants, in which the first to win six rounds won the title of Sole Survivor and the prize money.
