Yeah, she's annoying, which is even a better reason for me to keep her around because as long as there is somebody around who is annoying and less strong as I am, it takes the target off of me. + | The Heroes arrive at [[Tribal Council]] for the first time and light their torches. The tribe talks about the impact of past relationships on seasons past carrying over into this season. For the most part, the tribe agrees that past relationships only will have a small effect on the game. The poor performance of the puzzle section of the challenge is talked about factoring into the vote, but Amanda says that challenge performance is only one factor to consider out of many in a potential vote. The Heroes go to vote and send Sugar home in a unanimous 9-1 decision due to her mental instability and poor challenge performance. Before getting her torch snuffed, Sugar tells the remaining Heroes that one of them needs to win the game. |

Template:StarRatings Slay Everyone, Trust No One is the premiere episode of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.
Story
Day 1
Host Jeff Probst introduces the South Pacific, the place where the twenty returning castaways will compete. Four helicopters, each containing five contestants, arrive to drop off ten heroes and ten villains. On the helicopter ride, several confessionals are played introducing some of the players of the season.
Rupert |
“ | In my world, I've always tried to show that good will win. | ” |
Russell |
“ | I'm a villain, I think villains are smarter than heroes because they don't mind stabbing somebody in the back to get where they wanna get. It's a fact, it's a proven fact. Google it. | ” |
J.T. |
“ | The heroes are definitely people I would rather play the game with. The villains are the people I've always been against. So it's perfect for me to be on the heroes side and battle it out against the people I don't like anyway. | ” |
Jerri |
“ | I've been labeled things like "She-Devil in a Blue Bikini", "Wicked Witch of the West",... "Maneater Manthey", that was my favorite one. | ” |
James |
“ | I'm back here to do what I came to do the first time, get to the end and make the money. So I'm definitely coming back to redeem myself. | ” |
Coach |
“ | This time, I slay everyone and trust no one, this is my chance at redemption. | ” |
Tom |
“ | I'm not in the shape I was last time, but I still think I can hang in there as tough as any guy next to me. | ” |
Rob |
“ | If these people are smart, they'd get rid of me right away, it's the smartest thing they could do. But they won't. They never do. | ” |
Colby |
“ | I'm almost a decade older than I was the first time, so to me this is a test to see if I still got it. | ” |
Sandra |
“ | Last time, I was mean, and this time I'm meaner, you know I'll lie. I don't care, but I'll make up a good lie. | ” |
Cirie |
“ | People think they know me, they really don't know me. *laughs* But I'm a gangster in an Oprah suit. But I'm not like a mean gangster, I'm like a nice gangster with a smile. *laughs* | ” |
The Heroes tribe consists of Colby Donaldson, Rupert Boneham, J.T. Thomas, James Clement, Tom Westman, Sugar Kiper, Cirie Fields, Stephenie LaGrossa, Amanda Kimmel, and Candice Woodcock.
The Villains tribe consists of Russell Hantz, Rob Mariano, Coach Wade, Randy Bailey, Tyson Apostol, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Jerri Manthey, Parvati Shallow, Danielle DiLorenzo, and Courtney Yates.
After discussing with Jeff about being heroes and being villains, they go to the first challenge of the season. The Villains fight hard, as Rupert's toe gets broken and Stephenie's shoulder is dislocated, in addition to Sugar's top being ripped off. One surprise upset that does happen during the challenge is Coach out-muscling the challenge beast from seasons past, Colby, and dragging him over to the Villains mat to score a point in the challenge.
Tyson |
“ | Colby getting owned by Coach!? Oh my gosh, dude! I can hardly imagine what Colby's thinking. He's gotta be like, I may as well become a woman, there's no point in trying to maintain my masculinity now. | ” |
Despite the injuries, the Heroes narrowly prevail 3-2 and win the first challenge of the season.
Russell |
“ | The Villains lost. Pfft, do you think that really bothers me? Losing? I'm used to losing. With a bunch of dummies. But the difference is this ain't a bunch of dummies. We will win. I'm looking forward to sending the Heroes to Tribal Council and letting them do their hero thing. | ” |
The Villains arrive at their camp invigorated to start the game despite the loss and begin setting up a shelter. Russell immediately starts to play the game quickly, going off to forming alliances individually with both Danielle and Parvati, promising to take them to the finals. Parvati is skeptical of Russell but aligns with him anyway, since people are already suspicious of her.
Russell |
“ | Imma play similar to the same game. Imma use the mind game. They better give it their all and play the game 'cause I'm taking this crap serious, that's why I'm here. I have to work my magic on the Villains side which is going to be tough. | ” |
Parvati |
“ | I clearly know that Russell is running around talking to everyone and telling everyone the same thing. But we can either work with each other or against each other and I don't want to work against him are you kidding? He's just an incredible force. With Russell, I definitely feel like I'm making a deal with the devil, but I want the devil on my side. | ” |
The Heroes arrive at camp and joke about winning the challenge and the injuries that went along with it and they get to work on building a shelter near the beach.
Colby |
“ | Takes a little bit to get back into the rhythm of Survivor and go, "All right I remember this, it's going to be miserable". But you just don't remember what it feels like to be stranded and know that you're just at the tip, at the beginning of a long journey, if you're lucky. You know at the challenge, I think our team showed our strength, but unfortunately, I didn't. You know the challenge was rough for me, I don't like losing, but I got beat by Coach. I'm still rusty at the game, but I'm having a good time. | ” |
While gathering supplies to construct the shelter, Tom spots some chickens near the camp and the tribe works together to successfully capture all of them in a net, raising the morale for the Heroes even higher.
Rupert |
“ | Watching these guys working together, I'm ecstatic. Coming back into Survivor, I know the first five days are the hardest time. I haven't hit that wall yet, maybe in our tribe...we won't! I mean, shoot, we found chickens! We're gonna be out of the elements, it's good to be a hero. | ” |
That night at the Villains camp, the Villains bond together on the beach under the stars. Tyson jokes about being happy that the Heroes sustained so many injuries in the challenge. The rest of the tribe talks about Coach's upset victory over Colby since everyone expected Coach would lose. The extent that everyone else is talking about it makes Coach a little uncomfortable because he felt he was going to defeat Colby the whole time. Later, as most of the Villains go up to the shelter to sleep, Coach and Jerri remain at the beach and bond together, while Randy stays and laughs more about Colby.
Jerri |
“ | Coach -- what a surprise. Honestly, I'm very surprised by Coach. There's something about him, and I don't know what it is yet, I'm definitely going to make a point to get to know Coach. | ” |
Coach |
“ | One thing that appeals me about Jerri is that she is a different kind of girl, and that interests me because I'm a different kind of guy. | ” |
Day 2
The following morning, after seeing Coach and Jerri cuddling together the previous night, the rest of the Villains tribe jokes to Jerri and Coach about their relationship. Russell and Parvati joke to Coach about finding true love out on Survivor with Jerri, while Courtney and Sandra joke about trying to set Jerri up with Coach.
Courtney |
“ | Ooh, I see romance blooming between Jerri and Coach, and Jerri's in total denial, but she flirts and I think she, in spite of herself, is in a little bit of love with the Dragon Slayer. You know what, love finds you sometimes and you don't even know it! | ” |
Later that same morning, Jerri and Coach talk with each other regarding the fallout of the previous night and agree to be lower key with their friendship so they won't be targeted. But both agree to watch out for each other's backs in the game.
Coach |
“ | The girls were joking about it, they were like, "Oh the Black Widow and the Dragon Slayer what a combination". Hey you never know, we might pair up and run this game but we need to be careful, Jerri and I, of having the appearance of having an unbreakable alliance. | ” |
That morning in the Heroes camp, J.T. starts to work making alliances with everyone he can, starting with James. Talking out in the jungle, James and J.T. agree that the strong guys should be together and prevent a girl's alliance from running the game, like what happened to James in Survivor: Micronesia. J.T. promises to bring James to the final two, but both men are confident the Heroes tribe is strong and won't be losing many challenges anyway.
J.T. |
“ | James and I, you know we're buddies right off the bat. We both work hard, he's a guy's guy, I mean we can talk straight up. Anything he tells me, I can believe it. Can I beat James if me and him were in the final two? No. But I don't see me and him in the final two. I'm going to form alliances with everyone I can, my strategy is to keep everyone on my side, man. | ” |
Out in the jungle with Candice, Colby sees what's happening with some of the early alliances and tells Candice to watch out for James and J.T. Candice points out additional pairs in James and Amanda, Tom and Stephenie, and Cirie and Amanda who all played on seasons with each other.
Candice |
“ | The first couple of days are always the worst out here because you don't have everything settled, you don't know everybody, so it's kind of awkward. Going into the game again I'm worried about people who have a history together, they've played on seasons before together. And I don't really have anyone that I have a solid history with going into the game. | ” |
Amanda and Cirie walk together in the jungle and talk about how they are going to play the game this time around and whether or not their game plan includes the other. Both women agree to play different games than their first time together and to see what happens as far as making an alliance with each other.
Amanda |
“ | James, myself, and Cirie, you know we played this game together before. I played this game twice with James, in China and Micronesia. I've played once with Cirie, and Cirie and I went to the end together, we were in an alliance the whole time. So we need to watch our distance. If people think we're too chummy, it could definitely work against us. | ” |
Stephenie and Tom talk to each other about being glad that they get to play the game again together and be on the same tribe. They talk about who they want to get into an alliance with, and Tom mentions Colby and J.T. Tom remarks in a confessional that he wouldn't bring Stephenie to the end, as he wants to be sitting next to another winner of the million dollars. To that end, Tom talks to J.T., also a former winner, and they shake on a final two deal.
J.T. |
“ | People are expecting me to be that guy they saw on Tocantins, you know that guy who stuck by his word and done everything he had to do. But this game is completely different because everyone saw me play. To win this game of Survivor, you have to have a dark side somewhere, you have to be willing to sacrifice some of your integrity to make it far in this game, and I'm not here looking to save my hero name, I'm here to do what I can to win this game. | ” |
Over at the Villains camp, Rob complains about his tribe's lack of work ethic. Jerri tells him it's because everyone is tired and that they don't have any water, so Rob plans to start a fire and fashions together some bamboo poles to get one going. Randy tries to tell Rob to blow it off to avoid getting tired, feeling that he will not be able to make fire. Rob decides to go ahead with it anyway, and successfully leads the tribe into starting the fire.
Rob |
“ | I'm still the same guy I was the first time I played, that competitiveness, that cutthroatness, that's me. At the same time a lot has happened with me personally in my life in the six years since I played this game last, you know I got married, had a kid, I'm learning compromise and patience, but look at these people you know, not the brightest bulbs and I'm here trying to make the most of it, trying to make it work. | ” |
The Villains tribe celebrates Rob's successful fire making, which leaves many of the Villains in awe of Rob and his leadership abilities. Coach, in particular, is fond of Rob's 'warrior-like' qualities and forms a bond with him. Russell, however, is not so impressed with the emerging leader of the tribe.
Russell |
“ | We made fire and now Coach is going off with Boston Rob like he's a hero or something. Rob, he thinks he's the boss of the camp, he thinks he's in control, but this is my mountain and I'm still king of the hill. Survivor is my palace, so I'm still the king unless I'm dethroned, but you know what? That ain't gonna happen. | ” |
In contrast, on the Heroes, Rupert's broken toe hampers his ability to go out in the ocean to provide for his tribe, so he tries to start a fire instead with the flint the Heroes won at the first challenge. Things don't go as well as he plans and all Rupert manages to do is shave half the magnesium off with nothing to show for it. Rupert walks off in frustration, and in his absence, J.T. and Stephenie successfully start the fire without him.
Cirie |
“ | Rupert the fire maker, you know he shaved off half the magnesium on the flint and still couldn't get the fire. You don't want to say anything, you just sit there and watch, his ego's just humongous, I mean what can you say? | ” |
At the Villains tribe, Rob and Tyson decide to climb a precariously high tree near the beach to get the palm fronds at the top, but ultimately decide that it's too high and enlist Coach to try and do it for them.
Rob |
“ | I could probably go up there and get [the palm fronds] but why would I risk falling and getting hurt? But I know somebody who's so full of themselves that whenever you give them a challenge they just have to do it because they're the greatest and the best, and you know every day they're out here they get stronger. | ” |
Coach |
“ | Boston Rob and I do have a good time together. I like talking to him because he's sharp and I like that. He's going to challenge me and I think I'm going to challenge him and I think I need someone who's able to sharpen me as iron sharpens iron. | ” |
Rob and Sandra look on as Coach attempts to climb the tree and the two bet on whether or not he will make it. Rob bets that Coach will make it, while Sandra bets against him, and both laugh about whether or not he will fall. Coach eventually decides to come down without getting all the way to the top feeling it's not worth the risk.
Sandra |
“ | The person that I think I'm most like is Boston Rob. Seeing Rob here it reminds me of the time he played the first time, I loved him. That's someone I could see myself aligning with until it's time to cut his throat. | ” |
That night at the Heroes camp, Sugar struggles to hang on mentally in the game and decides to try to flirt with some of the men, but it doesn't go as well as she hopes as Colby and her other tribemates are tired and just want to sleep.
Sugar |
“ | This game is a reflection of your life and you don't even realize it. I guess in my life I always need a protector of some sort, especially in the game of Survivor, so now I'm starting to realize I've got these sexy young men on my tribe I can flirt with. | ” |
Colby |
“ | It was Night 2 and people are starting to fade off and get some much needed rest, and Sugar she just started chatting up again, and not whispering, but chatting up loud. And then you could start to feel and see everyone rustle awake. I couldn't even roll over without her putting her arms on me, and then when I would just lay there still like I was in a coffin, she would grab my hands and put them on her. I'm being flirted with and I'm just not interested. She'd chase me all around the shelter, wherever I'd go she would show up two seconds later. She's becoming a bit annoying. Nobody really had a good night sleep because of her. If you ruffle the feathers of the tribe, *whistles* they'll get rid of you in a hurry. | ” |
Day 3
The Heroes decide to eat one of the chickens they caught on Day 1 so they can have a good meal before the Immunity Challenge, so J.T. goes over and snaps one's neck with his bare hands, to the shock and amusement of his tribemates.
James |
“ | Yeah, J.T., he did it old school, he just grabbed it by its neck and spin it around until it's done. My great-great grandmother did that to me one time when I was three and scared the life out of me. She took one and grabbed it by its neck and spun it around and popped its head off and let it run around. It was traumatic, like we were screaming we didn't know what to do. And I don't know, it was a good time, it was kind of -- it was traumatic, but it's funny now. | ” |
Colby |
“ | You know, it's little victories like the chicken that get you fired up, it just goes to show we have sustainability out here, that's a huge thing. I think the Villains can stay positive for a short time, but without fire, without the small victories, it's only a matter of time before that tribe self-destructs. | ” |
The Heroes are confident they can stay positive and that will be able to win the challenge. The Villains, on the other hand, are also confident they can defeat the Heroes and turn things around. The Villains believe they will not only be able to crush the Heroes physically in the challenge, but that a Villain victory will crush the Heroes mentally too since the Heroes are so overconfident.
Coach |
“ | The Villains were beaten the other day but not broken, today we build ourselves again to go out there and thrash the Heroes unmercifully. Hopefully, we will not only defeat them, but beat them as well - mentally, and turn things around for the better. | ” |
At the challenge, the Heroes open up an early lead during the physical rowing part of the challenge, but struggle with the puzzle, allowing the Villains on the puzzle led by Rob to come from behind and win for the Villains tribe. Back at the Villains camp, the Villains celebrate their victory knowing that they have devastated the Heroes and strengthened their own tribe at the same time. They spend the rest of the day enjoying themselves and having fun.
Sandra |
“ | It was exciting to win the Immunity Challenge. We had to do it because we didn't want one of our people to be the first to leave Heroes vs. Villains. Now we're trying to figure out who they're going to send home and why. | ” |
Russell |
“ | The Heroes got their asses handed to them, and you know what we're having a good time. I'm just sitting back and loving it. It strengthens our tribe and weakens the Heroes tribe, they gotta stab somebody in the back, they're over there being Villains! That's what they're doing! | ” |
The Heroes return to camp upset at losing the challenge, feeling that they might have had too much hubris going into the competition. The tribe is clearly demoralized by their defeat at the hands of Villains.
Rupert |
“ | Nobody in a million years would have guessed we are going to Tribal Council on Day 3. Hopefully, this loss does nothing to our momentum other than show us that we're vulnerable. We walked in there like the Heroes, hey we got a big S on all our chests. This Heroes vs. Villains is going to be a tough one, when we had it in the bag, they showed us we don't. | ” |
Sugar is disappointed due to her own role in the struggling puzzle section of the challenge. She goes and talks with J.T., Cirie, and Rupert about voting for Amanda and the three of them agree with Sugar until she goes away. Afterwards, practically everyone decides that Sugar should be the one to go.
Sugar |
“ | When we lost, I felt really, really awful. I helped us lose I guess because I was on the puzzle, and I felt bad because we had such a big lead before. I just was disappointed in myself, and scared. These are all people, some of them have all played together before and they're really good, and I think Amanda and James are together so we have to break that up if at all possible. | ” |
Gathering some branches, Tom voices his opinion to Colby that they should get rid of Cirie due to her strategic threat and ability to manipulate the game instead of Sugar, who Tom perceives is just a follower in the game. Talking to J.T. later, J.T. agrees that Cirie is a serious threat, but won't say if he will vote that way or not.
Tom |
“ | I really believe that when you identify a threat, you take them out as soon as possible, you don't wait. People did that on my season and they waited too long and then they didn't get the opportunity to get rid of me. I don't want to have the regrets that those people had. Cirie is just a brilliant strategist in the game so I'm just a little nervous to give her a bye tonight. | ” |
Cirie, Amanda, and Candice meet in the jungle and talk about who they would like to vote out, they agree that the pair of Tom and Stephenie is a threat and that one of them should go home soon. Cirie keeps working on Amanda and lobbies to get Stephenie voted out right away, but Amanda is hesitant to do it so soon.
Cirie |
“ | Word on the street is that Sugar should go tonight. Why Sugar? Yeah, she's annoying, which is even a better reason for me to keep her around because as long as there is somebody around who is annoying and less strong as I am, it takes the target off of me. So, if we could get one of the strong players out like Tom or Stephenie, that would be better for me, so I would rather we not have Sugar go tonight. | ” |
Amanda |
“ | There's an advantage of keeping Stephenie right now and getting rid of Sugar physically for the challenges, but strategically, Stephenie's got game and she has to go. It's so hard because you want to keep your team strong, but strategically, you have to put yourself in a good position. Either you're doing it for challenges or you're doing it for strategic reasons. Or you just don't like them. Cirie and I are here for blood, we are here to win this thing. | ” |
The Heroes arrive at Tribal Council for the first time and light their torches.
Challenges
Challenge: Battle Dig
The tribes would face off in pairs. The four castaways would race along the beach to dig up a single bag in a designated lane. The castaways would then have to race back to their respective finish mat. The first person to be touching the bag and their finish mat would score a point for their tribe. The first tribe to score three points would win.
Reward: Flint
Winner:
Heroes
Challenge: Lock, Load and Light
Six members from each tribe would race to assemble a boat from seven pieces and seven planks and then paddle the boat out into the ocean to light their torch from the raft. Once the six members return with the fire and the seven planks, the remaining four tribe members would assemble a puzzle. The seven planks from the boat would then be used to assemble a ladder to the top of a platform and place the completed puzzle in a slot halfway up. The first tribe to have their whole tribe at the top of the platform and light their fire barrel would win.
Winner:

Candice |
“ | (votes for Sugar) Sugar, I'm voting for you tonight because that's what everyone else is doing. I don't want it to be you. I'm sorry, I think you're great. | ” |
Colby |
“ | (votes for Sugar) Really one of the main things is, with you gone, Sugar, I don't know that we lose that much. And another thing, Day 2 yesterday, and you're already breaking down emotionally? I really don't know you're cut out for this game. Good luck. | ” |
Cirie |
“ | (votes for Sugar) I don't think this is the smartest vote, but I have to go with the tribe right now. | ” |
Rupert |
“ | (votes for Sugar) I am so sorry, I couldn't trade, I couldn't change these guys' vote. I'm sorry, Sugar. | ” |
Stephenie |
“ | (votes for Sugar) Sugar, you are sweet as pie, you really are, but right now, we feel that you're not one of the stronger people that's gonna help us in the game so, I'm really sorry, good luck to you. | ” |
Tom |
“ | (votes for Sugar) Sugar, so sad it's you, you're a talented and sensitive person, I loved to have you around camp, you were a lot of fun. | ” |
Amanda |
“ | (votes for Sugar) I'm voting for you tonight because you're one of the weakest players on the team. | ” |
James |
“ | (votes for Sugar) Um... just wanna keep this group strong. | ” |
Sugar |
“ | (votes for Amanda) I think you're kinda fake, and I like to think I want to keep everyone who's totally real on as long as possible. So... | ” |
J.T. |
“ | (votes for Sugar) This is strictly because you were really starting to scare me and I can't trust you at all. | ” |
Final Words
Sugar |
“ | It's not a great feeling to be the first person voted off. I was crying today because I'm dramatic and I felt like I lost the game for everybody. And, I think they did probably make the right decision in voting me out because I am, I'd say the weakest link although I'd give it my all. I can't wait to get some clothes on. | ” |
