Shane G. Hattingh is a contestant from Survivor South Africa: Champions and Survivor South Africa: Return of the Outcasts.

In Champions, Shane and his ally Marian de Vos relished in the deceitful side of the game, gaining the upper hand by cobbling together a strong alliance on the Utara tribe. Shane also successfully stole two Hidden Immunity Idols and played one before finding his third. After spending the early merge playing from a desperate position, Shane finally settled into a comfortable majority. With his guard down, his supposed allies exploited his confidence to blindside him, sending him out of the game with two idols.

Returning in Return of the Outcasts, Shane found himself reunited with his old Champions ally Marian and forged a season-long alliance with her. He then became part of the majority alliance in the Breakfast Club, but was quickly blindsided when he became the secondary target of the split vote concocted by its other members that ultimately sent his ally Chappies Chapman home. Recovering from this early betrayal, he was able to temper his villainous persona from his previous season, which helped him to form relationships and allowed him to stay safe while others targeted their threats. Ultimately, Shane reached the Final Tribal Council when Dino Paulo took him to the Final Two over Marian as the latter perceived it as a better move, which eventually was proven to be correct, with the jury choosing to reward Dino to become the season's Sole Survivor for his strategic acumen over Shane's underdog gameplay.

Shane Hattingh has lived a very interesting, colourful, sometimes dangerous life. He has spent several years working in military counterintelligence, been a shoe designer, an outdoor advertising salesman, worked in the art department in the film industry and is currently a set dresser on an international reality show.

He has four children and admires their independence, critical thinking, rejection of societal norms and labels and proudly lists their achievements. He despises injustice, social prejudice, racism and exploitation of the vulnerable.

Having felt in control of the game in his season, he became complacent and allowed himself to get played. Losing out and being blindsided with idols in his pocket was a massive blow – and a mistake he won't make again.
