Selviytyjät Suomi (Survivor Finland) is a Finnish reality-based competition television show.
The Finnish version is produced by Nelonen (formerly by MTV3), and is currently aired at 8 pm during Sundays.
History
The show was originally presented by MTV3 in 2013, but due to low interest the show was on a hiatus until 2018 when Nelonen started presenting the new seasons.
Format Variations
While the United States version introduced the standard Survivor format in Survivor: Borneo, the Finnish seasons introduced several twists to keep the contest exciting and fresh.
Division of Tribes
Each season has followed the same formula.
Number of Members per Tribe
For every season, there were two tribes of eight members (picked by production).
"Versus"/Themed Seasons
- Celebrities: First seen in Selviytyjät Suomi 2018, followed by Selviytyjät Suomi 2019, the contestants were all celebrities.
Tribe Switch and Dissolves
Main Article: Tribe Switch and Tribe Dissolve A tribe switch is simply a game twist that shuffles the tribe affiliations which has been used on Selviytyjät Suomi 2018 and Selviytyjät Suomi 2019 in multiple forms.
- At the final 14 of Selviytyjät Suomi 2019 the castaways on each tribe were asked to draw a rock from a sack. Whoever got the white rock had to switch tribes with the person on the other tribe who also drew the white rock; the same two people would later pick the new tribes at the final 13.
Merge
- Main article: Merge
- The Merge happened at the final 9 on Selviytyjät Suomi 2013.
- On Selviytyjät Suomi 2018 and Selviytyjät Suomi 2019, the Merge happened at the final 10.
- However, there was a challenge; the five people who completed the challenge first would get the first five spots on the new merged tribe and they would later vote which of the five remaining players would leave the game; the five people facing elimination were not able to vote.
