Sango started the game on the Tiyaga tribe, where his affability helped him secure a place in a majority alliance with Sandrine Fortier, Kimberly Fortin, Marika Guay, Jean-Junior Morin, and Christophe Tiffet. The Tiyaga tribe did not lose many challenges during the early portion of the game, but when they did, this alliance was able to eliminate the outsiders except for former Kalooban tribe member Sylvain Béland and Survivor superfan and wild card Joël Dandurand, who in turn bonded well together.
On Day 16, a tribe switch took place; Sango stayed on Tiyaga alongside Marika, Jean-Junior, Christophe, and was joined by three women from the Kalooban tribe. At the site of the next Immunity Challenge, which the tribe lost, Sango picked up a Hidden Immunity Idol. Meanwhile, what Sango was unaware of was that Marika had plotted to defect from the Tiyaga Alliance. Fortunately for the men, Karine Lavigne-Fortin became interested in working with them and leaked Marika's plan to them, prompting them to turn on Marika. At Tribal Council, Karine confirmed her allegiance to the men by voting against Marika with them, eliminating her in a narrow 4-3 vote. When the Tiyaga tribe lost the next Immunity Challenge, Maryse Lauzon was primed to be the next target of the alliance, but she had developed a close relationship with Sango and gave a convincing plea to stay at Tribal Council, so they voted out Martine Larose Reda instead.
When the tribes merged into Pag-Asa, Christophe's majority alliance, which now also included Maryse and Karine, was able to regroup; they recruited yet another new member into their fold, Justine Turpin. Joël was their first target for elimination, but when he won the first individual Immunity Challenge, they split the votes between Sylvain and Nicolas Brunette instead. Sylvain was voted out for a second time and, without the Pag-Asa tribe's knowledge, sent to Redemption Island. In a surprise Double Elimination, the Tiyaga Alliance immediately had another chance to vote out Joël after he lost the intervening Immunity Challenge. The alliance split their votes between Nicolas and Joël; Joël played his Hidden Immunity Idol for himself and Sango played his own for Kimberly in order to establish loyalty. As a result, Nicolas was eliminated as collateral damage.
With nine contestants remaining in the main game, Sango took advantage of a boat reward that he shared with Sandrine, Maryse, and Justine, and the four agreed to work with Joël to blindside Jean-Junior at the next Tribal Council. After Jean-Junior won the third individual Immunity Challenge, their target switched to Christophe. However, Justine preferred to work with Christophe's group in the long run and leaked what happened on the boat to them. The Tiyaga Alliance then made plans to target Sango instead of Joël at the next Tribal Council all while Justine pretended to still be onboard with blindsiding Christophe. Ultimately, Sango was blindsided and sent to Redemption Island.
On Day 28 when Sylvain, Nicolas, and Sango entered Redemption Island Arena for their first duel, they confirmed to observers Jean-Junior and Maryse the existence of Redemption Island. This interaction also allowed Maryse to mouth to Sango that Justine was the mole. Sango lost the first Redemption Island duel and became the first ever juror in Survivor Québec history.
At the Final Tribal Council, Sango joined the jury in voting for Nicolas to win the title of Sole Survivor; he won in a 6-1-1 vote over Christophe and Kimberly.
