Sam was placed on the Lawaki tribe. Sam stood out immediately as someone who may turn out to be a legend of the game as he proved to be very adept at camp life and had potential in challenges, but his horrible social game initially held him back from this as he relied on his tribe winning the first immunity challenge to stay safe. Fortunately for Sam, things started going in his favour over the next few cycles when the Lawaki tribe welcomed Koh-Lanta veterans Moussa Niangane, Sara Tallon, and Teheiura Teahui into the tribe. Moussa took Sam under his wing and convinced his tribemates to look at Sam's positive aspects and keep him around while teaching Sam about the importance of interacting with others. In turn, Valérie Gernigon, who was older and weak in challenges, and Benoît Fourmont, who had criticized Sam for his shelter tactics but was ironically flawed and lazy regarding his own shelter, were voted out over the cycles. When the tribes merged, Sam found himself in a tight majority with the original Lawaki tribe members and the Koh-Lanta veterans. Sam had outstanding showings during the individual challenges but he frustrated some of his tribemates with his decisions during the archery challenge, which caused him to receive a vote from Alexandra Leveau at the corresponding Tribal Council. In response to this, Sam declared his loyalty strictly to Claude Dartois and Teheiura and the latter two proposed that the trio form an alliance with Jessica Potel and the remaining original Nacomo tribe members, Charlotte Caron and Éric Peyrache, to overthrow the remaining Lawaki tribe members. For his first time, Sam did not win the corresponding individual immunity challenge and narrowly lost to Naoil Tita, whose victory prompted a lot of cheers and applause from the female contestants. He took this personally and Claude, Sam, and Teheiura disclosed their new alliance to Moussa, which made him feel betrayed after looking out for Sam all season. Soon before Tribal Council, Charlotte made it clear that she preferred to vote with Moussa's big alliance, which made her the target of the rival alliance, and Éric felt uneasy about his positioning after hearing that said alliance would be splitting their votes between Sam and him. At Tribal Council, the votes were somewhat scattered but still only Charlotte, Sam, and Éric received votes. Of these three, Sam had the highest number cast against him and was eliminated.
