Robinsonekspedisjonen is the Norwegian version of the Survivor franchise. It was the third televised version of Survivor produced by Charlie Parsons, debuting in 1999. The name is based on the literary pieces Robinson Crusoe and The Swiss Family Robinson, both based on stories of people marooned by shipwrecks.

Format variations[]
The format of Robinsonekspedisjonen has remained largely unchanged since the first season. Although twists have been added over time to maintain viewer interest in the show, it has always followed the basic premise of Expedition Robinson's first season.
Division of tribes[]
During the show's original six season run, the tribes were divided into North Team and South Team without any dividing theme, as it had been in Expedition Robinson 1997. However, beginning with Robinsonekspedisjonen 2010 the tribes have often been divided based on different factors.
The following seasons had an unusual division of tribes:
- Robinsonekspedisjonen 2010 - Contestants were initially split into tribes based on where they resided in Norway. The North Team all resided in northern parts of Norway, while the South Team all resided in southern Norway. In addition to these two tribes, there was a short lived third tribe known as the West Team who entered the game post-merge on a hidden island. After one elimination this tribe joined the rest of the contestants in the merged tribe.
- Robinsonekspedisjonen 2011 - Contestants were split into tribes based on their age. All members of the Young Team were less than the age of thirty, while all members of the Old Team were over the age of thirty. For a short time there was even a third, hidden tribe comprised of contestants in their thirties. This twist lasted until episode three, when this tribe officially entered the game and a Tribe Switch occurred.
- Robinsonekspedisjonen: Paradise Mot Robinson - Contestants were divided based on a prior appearance on a reality show. The Robinson Team was made up of contestants from past seasons of Robinsonekspedisjonen, while the Paradise Team was comprised of those who had been on Paradise Hotel, Norway's version of the American reality show with the same name. A third group of 6 contestants who had no prior appearance on either show, but had appeared on another reality show, entered the game. Once this team, known as the Challengers, had entered the game, they were divided into the new North Team and South Team. All former Robinsonekspedisjonen contestants became part of the new North Team, and all former Paradise Hotel contestants became part of the new South Team.
