Story

Day 28

Day breaks on Jacaré, and after Deena Bennett's blindside, an aerial shot of Matthew von Ertfelda and Butch Lockley is shown while they are fishing. Back at camp, Heidi Strobel is still favoring her knee, which was bit by a spider just a few days ago, and while resting her sore knee, Jenna Morasca, Alex Bell, and Rob Cesternino talk by the campfire. While they joke about Butch's and Matthew's productivity around camp, they also talk about their friendships both and in and out of the game. Jenna later talks about her family in a confessional, getting more and more emotional about her mother the longer she talks about her, who she says wasn't feeling well when Jenna left for Brazil. It isn't long until Heidi reveals in her own confessional what Jenna is going through.

Jenna's mom is sick-- she has cancer. I mean, we haven't heard from our families in gosh knows how long. (chuckles) So, I mean, it's scary and Jenna's just worried sick.

Jenna

I think about them often but it's nice to have a core group of people that I love here also. That's also made me not have to think about them as often. That really helps, it really does.

Alex speaks in confessional that life at camp feels a lot like high school, where himself, Heidi, Jenna, and Rob hold the power, which gives them an opportunity to do less work around camp, while Matthew, Butch, and Christy Smith all have to deal with that. Those three are incensed that it's turned out this way, but as it stands, they simply don't have the power to do much of anything.

I am a hard worker and I know I'm a hard worker and I don't mind working hard. But sometimes it's like, "Come on, get up your butt and go and get some wood! Go and try to do something," and they just do jack (expletive censor).

When the tribe opens their Tree Mail, they find a wallet filled with U.S. dollars. Everyone is ecstatic because they all know what this means: a Survivor Auction is on the way, and it immediately lifts everyone's spirits. Some of the players jokingly talk about keeping the money and wondering aloud if they can do that. That same aftermoon, Jeff Probst invites the tribe to the auction and explains the usual rules, but this time there cannot be any pooling of money when bidding on items. Food is bid upon, in particular being chocolate and peanut butter, something that everyone there knows how much Heidi and Jenna wanted previously when they stripped naked for it. But eventually, a very special item is placed up for bidding: a letter from home. Jenna desperately wants it, knowing she can get word from her ailing mother, but Christy ends up winning the bidding war for $340. Heidi starts to tear up and console Jenna who looks distraught and emotional. Jeff, understandably not wanting the auction to end on a sour note, offers up a second letter from home with Christy's approval to do so, and Jenna obtains it by bidding the rest of her money ($120).

As the tribe returns to camp, Heidi and Jenna felt unhappy and surprised that Christy outbid Jenna for the first letter from home, but were understanding of it. Christy then sits by a tree in private away from camp to read her letter. It comes from a very good high school friend of Christy's, someone named Jennifer, someone Christy describes as an amazing person. Later, Jenna opens her letter while she sits with Heidi, which comes from Jenna's mother. Jenna's mom wrote that her tumor has now halved in size and is almost gone, a sure sign that Jenna's mom is beating cancer, which is something Jenna is overwhelmingly happy about as she cries tears of joy.

Heidi

She started crying because her mom had written that the brain tumor had decreased by 50%. I mean, it's just like one of the greatest things-- I started crying because I was so happy for her.

While in the fishing boat, Butch and Matthew think about how to further themselves in the game, and come to a conclusion to try and get Rob onto their side, while also ensuring they can get Christy's vote.

Day 29

Before dawn, Butch and Matt go out to do their routine of fishing in the river, while Alex and Rob talk quietly in camp as Heidi and Jenna are still asleep. Alex, knowing that Heidi and Jenna are absolutely inseparable at this point in the game, tells Rob that he will most likely have no choice but to vote Rob out at the final four should they all make it to that point. This raises a huge red flag in Rob's head, and now he needs Alex gone. This morning's Tree Mail was unusual: confidential pamphlets that must be completed in privacy. In a confessional, Rob refers to it as a "slam book". Later on, with the paranoia of Alex's impending betrayal, Rob has no choice but to turn to Matthew. Rob knows he's been leading Matthew and Butch on, but he tells Matthew everything he has done to him, that the intel was all fake, and that The Chain was a smoke-and-mirror attempt to blind Matthew and Butch to what was really going on. Rob then goes to Christy to tell her what his plan is in taking out Alex, and she quickly accepts it, as she's more than happy to see Alex go.

Matthew

Rob and I had perhaps the most important conversation of the game. He sat me down and he said, "Matthew, I'm gonna lay out what has happened over the past couple of weeks." He said that there have been a lot of, uh, times when I've been in danger and people that I thought were on my side were actually plotting against me and on several occasions he was included and was stringing me along. Rob can be very underhanded but I appreciated his honesty and I appreciate what he had to say next. I was appalled at their audacity that they would go so far as to say that-that Alex, Jenna, Heidi and Rob had wrapped it all up and that it was really a question of which one of the four would win a million dollars? I do have a lot of survival skills but I am very ignorant when it comes to the game and how it's played. Rob has zero survival skills but knows the game inside and out.

The Immunity Challenge takes place at night, and in a close win, Rob wins his first individual Immunity Necklace, who said it was the best day of his life.

Day 30

Morning time passes, and by the water, Heidi and Alex talk about how much of a threat Matthew is physically. The conversation continues with Rob and Jenna back at camp. Rob, in a confessional, starts to lay out and weigh his options. He talks about being in the middle at the moment and how he can create a huge power swing if he wants to. It runs through his mind that he could potentially might lose three jury votes if he betrays his final four alliance. While admiring a fish, Matthew talks with Christy and tells her everything will be just fine, but also to keep quiet about the vote tonight. Matthew contemplates in a confessional that Rob could still betray him as well as Christy and Butch, as Matthew is aware Rob has already betrayed people in this game previously.

At Tribal Council, Jeff congratulates the remaining players on making it 30 days in the Amazon. Matthew talks about how the journey to 30 days was filled with ups and downs, and Heidi says much the same, as does Alex and Christy. Jeff then notices the painted heart on Jenna's cheek, and the sunshine on Heidi's, asking them if their friendship is something to be concerned about. Butch agrees with the two that it's no surprise that Jenna and Heidi are inseparable in this game. Rob says that interpersonal relationships are the most important part of this game. Jeff then asked Heidi if it would be a surprise to her that she would be voted out tonight, which she confidently replies with a simple "yes", drawing a reaction from Probst. Alex, too, says the same thing when asked by Probst. Christy, however, said she would not be. After the votes were cast, the first of the final four alliance of Rob, Heidi, Alex, and Jenna fell, as a 4-3 vote sent a stunned Alex out of the game.

Voting Confessionals

(voting against Alex) He crossed me once; I forgave him. He crossed me twice; I offered reconciliation. His reign is over.

Matthew

(voting against Matthew) You're way too much of a threat and it's time for you to go. Take it easy, buddy.

Alex

Final Words

Wow! Uh, you guys got me. I don't know who on my alliance flipped on me...I think it was probably Rob. Hey, you know, I played the game as best as I could and apparently, I was the biggest threat at this point. So, I'm gonna go get a shower, get some food and be back to see those guys in three days. There you go. That's it. Take it easy.

Alex Bell
