Pick-Up Sticks is the fifth episode of Survivor: The Amazon.

Story[]

Day 13[]

Jeanne was visibly upset with her tribe after voting out her closest friend and only ally JoAnna, and aired her frustrations in regards to work ethic around camp. However, it turns out Jeanne misheard a conversation Deena had about Christy's initial struggles to fit in and took it personally thinking it was about her. Jenna tried to appease Jeanne and express her appreciation for her hard work, but Deena remained locked in on Jeanne as her next target.

At Tambaqui, the men were chopping wood when Alex hit himself with the machete. It was a minor injury, but Matthew commented on how the men were getting lucky this wasn't a regular occurrence due to their lack of outdoor experience.

Both Jaburu and Tambaqui received treemail instructing them to send their youngest members to a reward, which meant Jenna and Dave respectively. Despite some lighthearted protests from Jeanne and Rob, both tribes wished them well. Upon arrival, Dave and Jenna immediately got clean clothes, food, and started talking about their respective tribes. Jenna went into much detail about the dynamics of her tribe, going as far to mention how close she and Heidi were and that Jeanne was the next target. Dave was surprised at how open Jenna was, and felt that her disclosures could come back to haunt her. Dave only mentioned trivial information about his tribemates.

Day 14[]

On Day 14, Jeff visited Jenna and Dave once again, initiating a tribe switch via draft. Both players would select the members of their new tribes alternating between men and women. The new tribes were as followed:

 Alex
Jaburu

Dave picked Heidi right away to separate her from Jenna, with Jenna's first selection being the athletic Alex. Jenna's subsequent picks in order were Deena, Rob, Shawna, and lastly Matthew by default. Dave's subsequent picks in order were Butch, Christy, Roger, and lastly Jeanne by default. After the draft was completed, both returned to camp and broke the news to their tribemates. Dave explained his choices were based on his perception of how the men could best advance with numbers going into the merge, while Jenna explained that Dave picked Heidi right away. Heidi was heartbroken to be separated from Jenna because they had developed a strong friendship and were emotionally supportive of each other, while Rob was annoyed that Dave set himself up with his closest allies and essentially made it clear that Alex, Matthew, and himself were not part of his long term plans.

At Tambaqui, Christy gathered everyone and informed Dave, Butch, and Roger of her deafness. The men of the new Tambaqui tribe were surprised as they were not aware that she was deaf, but were all very welcoming and understanding with her, with the tribe accomodating her during nighttime discussions by the fire. This makes Christy feel much better about fitting in with the other members of Tambaqui.

S6 roger t
Roger
Very surprised to find out that Christy is deaf and also very surprised in how well she's doing. I never would've guessed that she was deaf by watching the other tribe. And so, it's amazing.
S6 butch t
Butch
You have to look at Christy because she's deaf. I'm making an extra effort to make sure she knows what's going on. I'm making sure that she, you know, sees me. With night, we can make the lantern a little brighter. That way she can read our lips and be included in the evening conversation and make her feel even more welcomed.

Day 15[]

Tambaqui lost the Immunity Challenge, which initially appeared to mean that they would go into Tribal Council in a 3-3 tie as both men and women were tight. The women were particularly unsure who to vote for because they had little to go off of and each of the men were welcoming, so they drew straws to determine Butch would be the target. Dave approached Heidi with a plan to vote out Jeanne, claiming it was in her best interest to vote out Jeanne and work with the men. Heidi did not have a close relationship to Jeanne, but was worried she would be making a big mistake if she were to flip now. Ultimately, Heidi did exactly that and Jeanne was voted out 4-2.

Challenges[]

Immunity Challenge: Up The Creek
The two tribes must find the names of five pictured animals (from a group of ten) inside a word search, then paddle around the small island to retrieve the five flags with matching images.
Winner: Jaburu

Voting Confessionals[]

Butch, Dave, and Roger were shown writing down Jeanne's name. Christy and Jeanne were shown writing down Butch's name.

S6 butch t
Butch
(voting against Jeanne) Jeanne, you're a very nice lady. I wish you could stay with us, but your name is on the list. Good luck to you.
S6 christy t
Christy
(voting against Butch) The three girls (inaudible) and your name came up.
S6 dave t
Dave
(voting against Jeanne) I pick you, Jeanne. I think you're a fantastic leader, but after talking with the members of the Jaburu tribe, you're not a team player. I want to reunite the Tambaqui tribe, and getting rid of you is the best way to do it.
S6 jeanne t
Jeanne
(voting against Butch) This was really hard because I like Butch the best of the bunch. But, I am thinking of strength and he hasn't been eating that well now, and unless we start catching fish, I don't think he's going to do well. So I kept my alliance and voted off the weakest guy.
S6 roger t
Roger
(voting against Jeanne) I'm voting off what is the weakest link. Your strengths you bring to the tribe, we already have covered. I want the physical exuberance of Heidi and Christy to carry us on.
S6 heidi t
Heibei
(voting against Jeanne) Jeanne, I am picking you. This is the hardest thing I've had to do. I could be totally screwing myself right now. But I am looking at this like a team and not as alliances. I know on my other team, you didn't think the greatest of me because I got hungry. If we're going to work as a team I don't think you're a trooper. I adore you and I hope I am making the right decision. I'm sorry.

Final Words[]

S6 jeanne bw
Jeanne
I guess I wasn't made to play this game because I didn't want to lie or cheat and I know that's how I'm off right now. I played a tough game. I'm tough. I'm mean. I'm focused. I'm determined. But I guess I'm just not a nasty liar and that's really what you have to be. Good luck to them because in the game of life… I'm the winner.
