What qualities did you think you'd bring to the game? Life experience as a 54yr old; a Gen X attitude for just getting on with it and not whining and moaning about the hardship of it all.
How did you prepare yourself mentally and physically for taking part? I built a couple of challenges in the garden and doubled my normal training schedule. Mentally I knew I had what it takes as a lifetime of overcoming preconceived ideas of disability has prepared me well.
Did you have a strategy of how you were going to play the game? To try and be Mr middle-of-the-road; I didn't want to be seen as a threat but also didn't want to be a weak link in the chain who wasn't worth keeping around. As an older one-legged guy I had to prove I could hold my own.
How competitive are you? Totally when I commit to something. Going into the show I was World Champion in my surf division and I gave up the opportunity of retaining the title to be on Survivor as I had to miss three competitions whilst we were filming.
What kind of challenges were you most looking forward to? All ocean-based ones, the ocean is my home and I knew no one in the cast could beat me. Also the obstacle course as I'm built for it; fast, light, good upper body strength and anything that involved climbing.
How did you cope with living on a beach with no home comforts? I loved it, I felt totally at home living, building and existing on that beach.
How did you cope with the hunger? Just sucked it up buttercup! It was part of the expectation of living on rice and beans. No amount of moaning was going to change it so what's the point of focusing on it.
What did you learn from being on the show? That I can bite my lip and not tell people just how stupid they are, that I could go more extreme living and surviving than this and that I can still give the youngsters a run for their money.^[1]

Former adapted world championship surfing semi-finalist Pegleg was a notable character from the first episode, with host Joel Dommett asking if it was okay to call him by that, with Peg responding that he'd changed his name by deed poll, so it was perfectly fine. He was put into the La Nena pre-merge tribe. Pegleg went to find a hidden idol with Doug Swinbanks in Episode 4, however Doug found it without Peg realising. After Leilani Sen entered La Nena, Pegleg perceived her to be getting along well with fellow La Neneño Christopher Haul and started to be suspicious.

Pegleg swapped to Caletón at the tribe swap in Episode 6 along with Doug, where Doug revealed his idol, with Pegleg offended he hadn't told him beforehand. However, the idol would expire next episode regardless. In Episode 8, Shai Ravindra and Laurence Cardwell formed a weak alliance with Pegleg and Doug, however Pegleg and Doug eventually voted for Shai, something he realised in his confessional afterwards.

At the auction in Episode 9, Pegleg bought a pint of beer and a packet of crisps for RD$700. He was given a second pint to share with a team member of his choice, in this case Doug. Pegleg won the immunity challenge, Last Gasp, in Episode 10, and voted for Chris at Tribal Council, yet his vote was nullified after Chris used a hidden idol.

Pegleg sat out the reward challenge on Episode 11, but was invited along due to correctly guessing which team would win. He did not vote for the blindside against Doug. In Episode 12 he was invited to pizza with Chris and Matthew Haywood, after which he helped blindside Tinuke Oyediran. Laurence voted for Pegleg yet both understood this was a throwaway vote.

After Chris won a spa treatment in Episode 14, he shared it with Pegleg and new ally Hannah Baptiste. Convinced, he voted for Nathan Dyke to leave at Tribal Council. He was voted out in Episode 15, with the finalists saying the jury would likely have picked him to win were he to have made it to the final. On the jury he voted for Matty.
