No Limite 1 is the first season of the Brazilian reality show No Limite. The season was broadcast from July 23 to September 10, 2000. It was the first reality show produced by a Brazilian television network.

Elaine de Melo defeated Pipa Diniz in a final challenge to become the Sole Survivor.

Production[]

With the resounding success of Survivor: Borneo, the Brazilian television network Rede Globo decided to make its own version of Survivor.

Twelve contestants were chosen by the producers to participate in the show, of which filming took place between July and August of 2000. They were marooned on the coast of the state of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil, where they would live for 24 days before one person would be crowned the Sole Survivor.

Format[]

  • Tribe Composition: The twelve castaways were divided into two tribes of six.
  • Merge: The merged tribe was composed of seven members.
  • Semi-Finals: At the final four, the castaways were divided into two pairs to compete in a challenge. The losing pair would be automatically eliminated, leaving the winning pair as the Final Two.
  • Final Trial: The Final Two would compete in a final challenge, where the winner would be crowned the Sole Survivor.

Notes:

^1 As they are members of the losing team, Andréa and Thiago were not eligible to vote in the second Tribal Council vote.
^2 At Day 22, a Semi-Finals challenge was held instead of a Portal vote, where Andréa & Juliana and Elaine & Pipa were paired. The pair that loses the challenge would be eliminated.

Trivia[]

  • As this was the first example of a reality show in Brazil, sociologists and psychologists questioned what they saw as the lack of commitment of the show with human rights and accused the production of being "sadistic" and "irresponsible". The program was also accused of being futile for exploiting the participants' narcissism.[2]
