Mutiny is the ninth episode of Survivor: Cook Islands.

Story

Day 19

The main Aitutaki alliance of Candice Woodcock, Jonathan Penner, Sundra Oakley, Becky Lee, and Yul Kwon were content to keep outsider Ozzy Lusth around until a potential merge because of his providing abilities. However, Candice formed a sub-alliance with Jonathan, and both planned to flip and reunite with the other original Rarotonga members, Adam Gentry and Parvati Shallow. Despite that, Candice actually didn't trust him enough and still wanted to get him out.

At Rarotonga, the issue was trust was discussed, with Nate Gonzalez confessing that he didn't trust Brad Virata .

Day 20

On Day 20, Candice and Jonathan mutinied from Aitutaki to back to their original tribe, Rarotonga.

The diminished Aitutaki dominated the Reward Challenge and won a brunch and letters from home, sending Candice to Exile Island for her betrayal. Sundra rejoiced over the David-beating-Goliath-esque victory. She and the rest of her tribe then became very emotional over their letters and pictures from home.

At Exile Island, Candice lamented the fact that Jonathan was able to bond with their new Rarotonga tribemates while she wasn't.

At Rarotonga, Jonathan explained to the rest of the tribe his allegiance with Candice. His arrival was not exactly welcome to Nate, who wanted to vote him out first.

Day 21

Aitutaki came from behind and beat Rarotonga in the Immunity Challenge. Candice told Parvati that she didn't have a strong bond with Jonathan. Nate wanted Jonathan out, but Adam pointed out to him that Brad would likely flip back to the original Puka Puka members, Becky and Yul, on Aitutaki. Nate did his best "Denzel" to keep Brad in the dark on his new plans. Candice also informed Adam of Jonathan's plans to weaken him, angering him. But he and Nate said they would remain strong and eliminate Brad.

At Tribal Council, Brad revealed that he didn't trust the tribe as a whole. This only added to the tribe's motivation to get him out, which they did, 7-1.

Challenges

Challenge: Barrel Of Monkeys
Two players sit in a barrel, and the other two push them down a track, running down a net alongside to the bottom, where one of them grabs two buoys, before rolling them over a row of logs and to a mat on the beach to grab the final two buoys, before rolling it into the water, where the buoys are clipped on, making it float, then they swim it to a larger buoy, dive down to get four flags, and to the other side of the lagoon, where all four arrange the flags in the right order on a flagpole, dig for a buried axe, and use it to chop a rope and raise them.
Reward: A trip to a relaxing environment where the winning tribe will have muffins, coffee, and danishes while reading letters from home.
Winner: Aitutaki (exiled Candice Woodcock)

Challenge: Depth Charge
The two tribes must paddle a glass-bottomed boat to three underwater targets, dropping a cannon into each to release buoys, then return to shore and arrange them to form the answer to a provided clue.
Winner: Aitutaki

Voting Confessionals

(voting for Brad) Brad, I'm voting for you tonight because I think, as soon as you got the chance, you would go over and mutiny and be with Becky and Yul, and you said you're playing an individual game; you don't trust the people on this tribe. So, that's why I'm voting for you. Good luck.

Candice

(voting for Brad) Obviously, this is nothing personal; you seem like a very nice guy, but I'm in a very, very precarious position here and I'm hoping that more than me... I'm not the only one to vote for you. Good luck.

Jonathan

(voting for Brad) I think you're a great guy, I just could not trust you.

Rebecca

(voting for Jonathan) I think you're a good guy, a good leader, and a good father, but you're coming in way too late in the game. Sorry.

Brad

(voting for Brad) I guess I won't know until all this is said and done whether it was you who wrote down my name at the last Tribal Council. Yes, we bonded, but I could never really trust you.

Jenny

(voting for Brad) I love you and I'm really gonna miss you. You're just a really strong competitor and a huge threat right now.

Parvati

(voting for Brad) You just proved my point. You said you don't trust us.

Nate

(voting for Brad) Nothing personal, buddy. I just see potential for you to flip to the other side if we merge, and I don't see that potential from anyone else in our tribe.

Adam

Final Words

My experience overall has been the best/worst experience of my entire life. I didn't know I was going. I didn't know what was brewing. It is kind of a sigh of relief for me but at the same time, parting is bittersweet. Anything is possible in this game and making jury proves just that point.

Still in the Running

Trivia

  • Brad Virata's elimination and announcement as the first member of the jury foreshadows the upcoming twist at the Final Tribal Council, where three contestants that are in the running for the title of Sole Survivor and the million dollars will face a nine-person jury.
  • This is the first and only episode where the contestants have been offered the chance to Mutiny and a contestant(s) has taken the opportunity to do so.
