La Isla 2016: La Revancha is the fifth season of La Isla.
Unlike previous seasons, this one features returning contestants from the past four seasons.
At the end, the season was won by Jorge Luis Vázquez after beating Ana Ransanz at the Finale.
Development[]
Originally, this season was only going to bring back previous celebrities and was going to feature new celebrities, in a "VIP" format. For unknown reasons, this was changed, and instead of the new celebrities, it featured previous contestants.
This year they took more care with information output in the networks, for the past mistakes of knowing who were eliminated ahead of time, for this season several participants assigned an administrator to their accounts to avoid confusions and spoilers.
Weekly Schedule[]
The program airs on Azteca 7 from Mondays to Thursdays, and the schedule goes as follows:
Day | Ocurrence | ||
---|---|---|---|
Mondays | Territorial Challenge | Reward Challenge (at the merge) | |
Tuesdays | Immunity Challenge | ||
Wednesdays | Final Challenge | ||
Thursdays | Trial (up until Final 6) |
Playa Destierro Duels (only first 5 cycles) |
Deathly Duel (after Final 6) |
Twists/Changes[]
- Returning Players: 21 former contestants, all of whom have played only once and did not win the game, returned for a second chance.
- Expanded Cast: Rather than other seasons that feature eighteen contestants, this season has twenty-one contestants divided into three tribes.
- Day 2 Elimination: Since there was an uneven of males and females in the game, on Day 2 each tribe would vote out a male contestant. They will be sent to Playa Destierro.
- Emmisaries: On each trial, the immune tribes would send an emissary, who will have a chance to talk to two of the contestants from the losing tribe and also have the right to vote in the trial. After the switch, the immune tribe would send two emissaries that will talk to every contestant from the other tribe. In addition to being able to vote, the emissaries will have the chance to veto the vote before the votes are read. At the merge, the first contestant to win the immunity would be the emisary and have the power to veto the vote. If the vote is vetoed, a new vote would be taken and the contestant that was to be voted out would be saved.
- Tiebreaker: If the vote result is a tie, the person who won the Final Challenge decides who is voted out between the contestants involved in the tie. If the vote was vetoed, the tied contestants would be saved and a new vote would be taken.
- Playa Destierro: This fourth beach would be the house to every contestant voted out from Day 2 to Day 20. Similar to Redemption Island, they will compete in a four-person duel. The last place finisher in each contest is out of the game for good, while the second and third place remain. The winner will return to the main game and would choose which tribe to join, then this tribe must send a contestant from the same gender to Playa Destierro. The last returnee would not join any tribe, instead, will compete in the Captains' Challenge.
- Returning Bracelet: The contestant who returns from Playa Destierro would have this bracelet, giving them immunity at the next Trial.
- Captains' Challenge: On Day 21 was held the Captain's Challenge. Each tribe would send a captain, and along with the last returnee from Playa Destierro, would compete on a challenge. Those who occupy the first two places will have the power to choose their new tribe members, the first place will start to choose first, while the second place will decide second. The captains were José Antonio Ferreira, Ricardo Alcalá, Julio César Frías, and Rafa Mercadante. The winning captain was José Antonio and the loser Ricardo, causing the disappearance of the Zafiro tribe.
- Tribe Switch: The winners captains decided the formation of new tribes with a Schoolyard Pick, José Antonio would form the new Jade tribe and Julio César the new Oro tribe. Thus leaving the tribes of 7 members each.
- Black Pearl: It works exactly like the Hidden Immunity Idol, being played before the votes are read to be immune and thus avoid being voted out. It was introduced on Day 23 to the game.
- Disadvantage Vest: Whoever who wins the Reward Challenge at the merge, will have the right to make someone wear a vest weighing 15 kg (33 lbs) at the next Immunity Challenge. On Day 58, since there was a food competition, the punishment given was an extra dose of the food on each round.
- Simplified Deathly Duel: When 6 contestants remain, the winners of the Immunity and Final Challenge decide one nominee each who will go to the Deathly Duel, the loser of that challenge is eliminated.
- Reward Challenge at the Finale: At the Finale the 19 eliminated participants and Lukini (the host) chose 2 people who would face one last Reward Challenge. The chosen ones were Julio César and José Antonio.
- La Isla te Reta: Every contestant eliminated will have a chance to win an Italika motorcycle after they are out of the game, completing a challenge in 5 minutes or less.

Notes:
^1 This vote was to see who would go to Playa Destierro, since a member returned to that tribe, it was not made in a trial. ^2 The trial resulted in a tie. The vote was not vetoed. Per the rules, the person who won the Final Challenge had to decide the voted out between the contestants involved in the tie. ^3 The vote was vetoed by the emissaries, so the vote was negated and a new vote would be taken, in which the contestant that was to be voted out would be saved. ^4 A Black Pearl was played, negating all votes against its user. ^5 A Black Pearl was played, however, no votes were cast against its user. ^6 When there were 6 contestants left in the game, the trials were stopped, and they moved on to Deathly Duels. |
