Koh-Lanta: La Nouvelle Édition is the fourth special season of Koh-Lanta and the sixteenth season overall. It was broadcast from September 12 to November 12, 2014.

After the 2013 season's cancellation and subsequent controversy due to the death of a castaway during filming, TF1 chose to revive Koh-Lanta with an all-returnees season.

Laurent Maistret defeated Martin Bazin in a 7-0 jury vote to become the Sole Survivor.

Production

Following the tragedies that occurred at the start of season 13 in March 2013, in order to avoid any further tragedies, the medical arrangements were stepped up and the contestants underwent much more extensive medical tests, similar to those to which professional sportsmen and women are subjected. It should be noted that this special season, the fourth, had already been planned for 2014 before the filming of season 13, and would probably have included candidates from season 13 in its cast had it not been for the tragedies that occurred.

Twists

• Returning Players: All the castaways are players from previous seasons.
• Individual Start: For the first time, the first episode of the game is completely individual. While eleven castaways would take part in the first challenges and Tribal Council, two others (Freddy Boucher and Teheiura Teahui) started the game isolated from the other castaways, undergoing an expedition through the jungle during the first three days.
• Schoolyard Pick: Freddy and Teheiura would join the ten remaining castaways on Day 4, following their expedition. They would become the tribe captains in a Schoolyard Pick, and would pick new tribes.
• Replacements: Due to a medical evacuation, one castaway (Isabelle Da Silva) would return to the game after being voted out.
• Ambassadors: At the merge, each tribe would send an ambassador to a summit. Their purpose is to directly eliminate a castaway, and if the two ambassadors do not agree on a name, one ambassador is eliminated by a rock draw. This season, before choosing their ambassadors, each tribe sent an diplomat to the opposing tribe's camp, like in Raja Ampat and Malaisie. Contrary to these two seasons, the diplomats do not have the power to designate the ambassadors.
• Sudden Death Immunity Challenge: The final six Immunity Challenge would be an elimination challenge, with the castaway finishing in last being eliminated. However, at the beginning of the next episode, a duel would be held between the castaway eliminated in this challenge and the one voted out at the subsequent Tribal Council, with the winner returning into the game.
