Jungle Relay (also known as Outwit, Outplay, Outrig, Share the Wealth, and Snake, Rattle & Roll) is a recurring tribal challenge that debuted in Survivor: Marquesas and later reappeared in Vanuatu, Gabon, Philippines, and Kaôh Rōng.

Rules

Contestants must run out into the jungle and complete a series of tasks with a partner or alone. Then, one final task awaits either the entire tribe or another pair. The first tribe to finish their tasks would win.

History

The challenge made its debut in Survivor: Marquesas as a Reward Challenge. The tribes raced through the jungle collecting oars and keys for a final pair to paddle out and grab their tribe flag. Rotu was initially declared the winner, but Neleh Dennis and Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien called them out, because they had not rehooked their boat back to its post and Robert DeCanio did not arrive to the tiki with John Carroll when John put the flag in and in fact only arrived after Kathy and Gina Crews got there, so Maraamu won the challenge and a feast.

The challenge returned in Survivor: Vanuatu, this time as an Immunity Challenge. Pairs ran through the jungle to untie two pieces of an outrigger and two paddles. Once the boat was tied together, two more castaways paddled out to retrieve a tribe flag. Lopevi won.

The challenge was returned in Survivor: Gabon, once again for immunity. Susie Smith sat out for Kota. The tribes was divided into three pairs, tethered by a rope. The castaways will crawl under a cargo net, race under the net and pass though an obstacle to receive a piece of flag pole and race back. Then the next pair goes, made more difficult with an additional obstacle. Once all of the pieces are recovered, the tribes must assemble the flag pole. The first tribe to do so wins. The first pair was Randy Bailey and Bob Crowley for Kota, while Kelly Czarnecki and Sugar Kiper was the first for Fang. The second pair for Kota was Corinne Kaplan and Charlie Herschel, while the Crystal Cox and Ace Gordon was the second for Fang. Marcus Lehman and Dan Kay was the final pair for Kota, while the Fang's final pair was Matty Whitmore and Ken Hoang. Kota had the initial lead, but Fang caught up and surpassed them. However, Ace had problems with the pole. This allowed Kota to win immunity for the third time in a row.

This challenge later returned in Survivor: Philippines, as the first immunity and Reward Challenge. Each tribe has 2 members run into the jungle to obtain paddles, then they would return with the paddles and give it to 2 other tribe members who would then row out into the ocean to retrieve a chest under water and bring it back to shore. Then the remaining 2 members would use the pieces inside to solve a puzzle. The first 2 tribes to complete this challenge won immunity. Tandang had an early lead with Matsing right behind. Kalabaw was originally in last place. But during the second part of the challenge Kalabaw passed Matsing. During the puzzle part, Tandang maintained the lead but Kalabaw caught up and eventually placed first in the challenge with Tandang placing second. Matsing lost the challenge due to the people designated to do the puzzle not being good at puzzles.

The challenge reappeared in Survivor: Kaôh Rōng as an Immunity Challenge. Two tribe members had to run into the jungle, climb up an A-frame and untie three puzzle pieces. Two other tribe members then had to swim into the ocean and retrieve another two pieces. Once all the pieces were retrieved the tribes would use them to finish a snake rope puzzle. Despite Chan Loh forgetting one of their pieces at the jungle stage and falling behind during the swimming stage, they were able to finish their puzzle first and win immunity. Both Gondol and To Tang struggled with the puzzle, but eventually Gondol finished, sending To Tang to Tribal Council.
