John Dalzell is a contestant from Survivor: Panama.
One of the season's more prominent figures, John formed an early alliance with Jonny Gibb on Day 2 after forming strong bonds together. After South Island's Bridget Griffiths won the tiebreaker at the merge, John's alliance continued to control the game. However, this alliance was forced to break up at the final three, when Susannah Moffat won the Final Immunity Challenge and voted John out, as she held a stronger connection with Jonny.

John was placed on South Island. After the tribe's disqualification from the first Immunity Challenge due to a mistake made by Susannah Moffat, John and his alliance member Jonny Gibb planned to vote for Sarah McCombie due to her being unwell, homesick, and asking to go home. Bridget Griffiths joined them. Sarah, Susannah and Lee Capon considered voting for John due to his strong connections with Jonny, but ultimately Sarah was voted out 5-1, with Sarah casting a sole vote against John.
During the second Immunity Challenge, South Island had a considerable lead after North Island's Tayfun Kadioglu dropped out of his duel with John fairly early, which led to John showboating. He started doing pull-ups on the beam he had to hold on to for as long as possible to mock Tayfun, but wore himself out and dropped out mere seconds before South Island would've won the challenge, sending South Island to Tribal Council for the second time in a row. Due to Bridget's strong bond with Jonny, John's alliance practically held a majority in the 5-person tribe, and Susannah was forced to turn on her alliance with Lee and vote for him as he'd made the least connections with the majority alliance. South Island won the next two Immunity Challenges, both by small margins, and went into the merge with North Island equal in numbers - 4 members each. At the first Tribal Council following the merge, the votes remained along old tribal lines and tied between Bridget and Helen Carney. After a revote also tied, Bridget and Helen faced a tiebreaker quiz. Bridget won, eliminating Helen, which put the South Island alliance in the majority.
The former South Island tribe members remained loyal, and pagonged the remaining North Island members - first Alastair Brogan, then Drew Agger, and finally Dave Porter, the latter of whom tried to turn the game against John and Jonny's alliance by getting Susannah and Bridget to vote with him. However, Bridget refused to change votes, and Dave was voted out 4-1.
At this point, the South Island members were forced to turn on each other. The final four Immunity Challenge placed each remaining castaway at equal distances from the center of an island, and were given a compass reading. The first person to reach the clearing at the center of the island would win. John, thanks to his military experience, was the only person who was able to successfully navigate using his compass. Jonny, Susannah and Bridget all got lost, though Bridget would come mere metres from the clearing by chance but missed it. Jonny found John's starting point, having started on the opposite side of the island. John found the clearing first and won immunity, and joined Jonny and Susannah in voting out the socially isolated Bridget, as she unknowingly got on her tribemates' nerves and was extensively mocked by John and Jonny throughout the game.
At the final three, John and Jonny pledged to take each other to the end, wanting to remain true to their alliance. However, it was revealed at Tribal Council that Susannah had won the Final Immunity Challenge. Susannah wanted to stick to her alliance with Jonny despite her believing Jonny was more popular with the jury, and thus she voted John out.
At the Final Tribal Council, John told Susannah he thought the £1,000,000 prize money would only negatively affect her life. Despite pleading with the jury to not vote against her based on her posh demeanour by emphasising she would spend some of the money on clearing her debts, John joined the rest of the jury (including an overwhelming 89% of the public vote) in voting for Jonny to become the Ultimate Survivor.

Post-Survivor[]
- In September 2002, as part of a 40-person expedition, John and Jonny were attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support when extremely harsh weather struck the group on the third day of the ascent, killing 3 of the group. John and Jonny were two of only nine members to reach the top on Day 5 of the ascent, with John calling the weather "absolutely horrific". Guides stated it was the worst weather they'd seen on the mountain in a decade.[1]
- John moved to Sydney, Australia in 2003 to work for commercial law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth. In 2010, he left to work for Gadens, another law firm, which combined in 2016 to become part of Dentons, an multinational law firm. He specialises in litigation and dispute resolution.[2][3]
