JoAnna Ward is a contestant from Survivor: The Amazon.
Devoutly religious, JoAnna went as far as avoiding the tribal Immunity Idol and clashing with her tribemates over it. Though JoAnna was a hard worker at camp, her domineering personality and her tribemates' perception of her as a challenge threat prompted Deena Bennett to orchestrate her elimination at Jaburu's second Tribal Council.

Born and raised in Niagara Falls, N.Y., JoAnna Ward moved to Atlanta with her family when she was an adolescent. She moved to South Carolina to attend college after being recruited on a basketball scholarship. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in English education and her master's degree in education in school guidance counseling from South Carolina State University. She currently works as a school guidance counselor. She is also an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Certified aerobic instructor.
Ward enjoys fellowship with Christian believers and spending time with her son, Dontré. She also enjoys tae bo, basketball, mountain climbing and running. She describes herself as strong, courageous and independent. If she could hold political office, she would become the mayor of a small town. She has done several commercials and made a brief appearance in the movie "Juwanna Mann." She considers her greatest achievement to be when she became a born-again Christian which she feels changed her into a better person. "One of my most enjoyable hobbies is lifting up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in pure praise and worship." She considers her mother, who recently passed away, to be the most influential person in her life. Having had the support of family and friends, she is doing this to prove to herself that she is truly a survivor outside of life's common adversities. If she wins the $1 million, she will buy a new house.
Ward is currently single and living in Orangeburg, S.C. Her birth date is April 29, 1971.[1]

JoAnna was initially placed on the all-female Jaburu tribe. She made her faith in Jesus Christ very clear to her tribemates early on. She and Jeanne Hebert managed to catch a small fish, after which she led the tribe to pray off of the tiny fish. Although Jaburu won the first Immunity Challenge of the season, JoAnna preferred not to have the tribal Immunity Idol at camp because of her religious beliefs. In her mind, keeping the idol was confirmed a bad idea due to frequent rainstorms, which Christy Smith viewed as stupid. That caused a fight between the two and JoAnna stormed off, leaving Christy in tears. After Jaburu lost immunity on Day 6, JoAnna voted against Christy because of her attitude. However, Janet Koth was voted out because of her weakness and alleged smuggling of a granola bar.
On Day 10, JoAnna encouraged everyone to help out at camp. Instead, it was just her and Jeanne doing chores. JoAnna said that beauty fades and that your faith in God is important. Jenna Morasca felt that she was picking on the younger women for having good bodies. After Jaburu lost the following Reward Challenge, Shawna Mitchell had a mental breakdown and wanted out. When the tribe then lost the succeeding Immunity Challenge, JoAnna and Jeanne were ready to honor Shawna's request and vote her out. However, Deena Bennett felt that JoAnna was the biggest threat because of her work ethic and strength in challenges and approached Christy to vote out JoAnna. Deena's plan came into play and JoAnna was blindsided in a 4-2-1 vote, upsetting Shawna who was hoping to be voted out instead.
