Emplacement: Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
Joël was placed on the Tiyaga tribe. A longtime superfan of the game, Joël played a part in the dynamic direction of the contestants' gameplay throughout the season. He was able to orchestrate the elimination of Simon Paradis-Lacroix after the Tiyaga tribe lost the second Immunity Challenge, but he fell into the minority alongside Isabelle Gagnon and Johannie Thériault due to his sneaky gameplay. The instincts of the dominant alliance led by Christophe Tiffet and Jean-Junior Morin proved to be correct as, unbeknownst to most, Joël had found a Hidden Immunity Idol and planted a fake one in the original's hiding place.
Over the next few cycles, Joël allowed for Isabelle to be sacrificed at one Tribal Council and Johannie had decided to quit the game due to homesickness. Left with no strong allies, Joël bonded with Sylvain Béland, a former Kalooban tribe member who had been transferred to the Tiyaga tribe after a mock vote, and Marika Guay, whom he informed about his Hidden Immunity Idol after she shared that she wanted to make a big move against Jean-Junior or Christophe at some point before the merge.
On Day 16, a tribe switch took place and Joël became a member of the Kalooban tribe alongside Sandrine Fortier, Kimberly Fortin, Sylvain, and three other original Kalooban tribe members. The three latter original Kalooban tribe members were concerned about their numerical disadvantage against Sylvain and the original Tiyaga members, but there was some hope for them as Joël felt that voting Kimberly out would weaken the dominant alliance on his original tribe. Fortunately for the tribe, they were never forced to draw any lines as they did not lose any Immunity Challenges for the remainder of the tribal phase.
When the tribes merged into Pag-Asa, Christophe's majority alliance, which now also included Maryse Lauzon and Karine Lavigne-Fortin, was able to regroup; they recruited yet another new member into their fold, Justine Turpin. Joël was their first target for elimination, but after he won the first individual Immunity Challenge, they split the votes between Sylvain and Nicolas Brunette instead. Sylvain was voted out for his second time and was, without the Pag-Asa tribe knowing, sent to Redemption Island. After Sylvain was voted out, a surprise Double Elimination gave the majority alliance the chance to vote out Joël after Maryse won the intervening Immunity Challenge. They split their votes between Nicolas and Joël, with Joël being the main target. Joël played his Hidden Immunity Idol for himself, leading to Nicolas being "idoled out."
With nine contestants remaining in the main game, Sango Bien-Aimé wanted to make a move, so he took advantage of a reward that he shared with Sandrine, Maryse, and Justine; the four agreed to work with Joël to blindside Jean-Junior at the next Tribal Council. After Jean-Junior won the following individual Immunity Challenge, their target switched to Christophe. However, Justine preferred to work with Christophe's group in the long run and leaked Sango's conspiracy to them. Thus, with the majority alliance pivoted to targeting Sango instead of Joël at the next Tribal Council. Indeed, Sango was voted out in a narrow 5-4 vote and sent to Redemption Island.
Going into the next cycle, Joël and Sandrine formed a plan where she would use her Extra Vote at the next Tribal Council while Joël tried to bait the majority alliance into splitting their votes. However, the majority alliance ended up piling all but one of their votes on Joël, and a communication failure led Sandrine to accidentally cast her two votes against Christophe instead of Karine. With this unfavorable vote distribution, Joël was voted out. As his torch was about to be snuffed, he asked Patrice to address him by his late brother's name Mario in his honor.
Joël was sent to Redemption Island and lost the next day's duel, becoming the second member of the jury. It was revealed that, immediately after this loss, Joël had dropped the fake Hidden Immunity Idol that he had made early in the game on the ground for Nicolas to pick up and use down the line.
At the Final Tribal Council, Joël cast his vote for Nicolas to win the title of Sole Survivor; he won in a 6-1-1 vote over Christophe and Kimberly.
