Caramoan[]

For the opening challenge for rice and for the power to choose their tribemates, Jean-Bernard was partnered with Bertrand Bolle, Christelle Gauzet, and Valérie Tartacède-Bollaert. The team of Nathalie Ensargueix, Frédéric Favier, Christopher Lavaud, and Carole Rapin won the challenge and they did not select Jean-Bernard to be a part of the Tayak tribe. Therefore, Jean-Bernard became a member of the Mingao tribe. Heading to the Mingao tribe's beach, when Irya Cissé jumped off of the helicopter into the water after throwing her bag in first, she struggled to swim, which prompted Jean-Bernard to carry her to the shore. After arriving at the beach, Irya realized that she had lost her bag in the water, which prompted Jean-Bernard to go looking for it over the next few days. During the first cycle, Jean-Bernard entered a loose majority alliance with Régis Colombier, Charlène Hoffness, and Jessica Joullié. The Tayak tribe initially won the first Reward Challenge, in which the reward was fire, but the victory and the reward were transferred to the Mingao tribe later that day as it was discovered that Frédéric and Christopher had broken the rules at one point in the challenge. Apart from this, the Tayak tribe's obvious strength over the Mingao tribe worked in their favour in challenges, allowing for the former to ulong the latter. In order to try to stop this from happening, the Mingao tribe generally focused on eliminating weak links whenever they had to go to Tribal Council. The afternoon before the Mingao tribe's first Tribal Council, which was consequent to them losing the first Immunity Challenge, Jean-Bernard found Irya's bag. Regardless, Jean-Bernard joined his alliance in voting out Irya at Tribal Council as they felt that, between Irya and Valérie Tartacède-Bollaert, Irya was the weakest link on the tribe.

At the end of the second Reward Challenge, Jean-Bernard suffered from a heatstroke and had to be temporarily evacuated from the game. The next day, Céga Coulibaly, who was suffering from stomach pain, joined Jean-Bernard at the infirmary. The former updated the latter on what had happened back at camp since the latter had been gone, including Valérie's quit. The medic revealed to Céga that the infirmary wasn't enough for him and that he needed to go to the hospital, which also meant that he would be permanently evacuated and eliminated from the game. Fortunately for Jean-Bernard, he was cleared to go back to camp that evening, where he discovered that Irya had returned to the game in Valérie's place. The next day, the Mingao tribe lost the second Immunity Challenge and Jean-Bernard's alliance voted out Irya for a second time at the corresponding Tribal Council. The next day, joker contestant Alain Garcia entered the game in Céga's place. Alain arrived at the Mingao camp with a bag of rice as a welcoming gift and he was well-received by his new tribemates. Though the Mingao tribe lost the third Reward Challenge, they won the third Immunity Challenge mainly due to Jean-Bernard's strategy to swim in front of the raft. This would be the only time that the Mingao tribe won an Immunity Challenge. When the Mingao tribe lost the fourth Immunity Challenge, Alain was worried that he would get the axe at the corresponding Tribal Council because he was the newest tribe member. At Tribal Council, Denis Brogniart discussed with the Mingao tribe about their lack of communication, especially during the last two challenges, which prompted the tribe to designate Jean-Bernard as their leader. Charlène and Jessica voted against Alain, but the tribe's men prioritized strength over affiliation and they blindsided Jessica, who they felt was the new weakest link. When the Mingao tribe lost the fifth Immunity Challenge, Hakim Djellali, Alain, and Charlène all felt threatened going into Tribal Council. Hakim had annoyed Régis earlier in the cycle when waking him up, Alain was the newest member of the tribe, and Charlène was the last woman standing. At Tribal Council, the majority alliance stuck together and voted out Alain as they felt that, even though he wasn't weak in challenges, his introduction to the Mingao tribe didn't do much to improve their track record in challenges.

Before the tribes merged, both designated tribe leaders, Bertrand and Jean-Bernard, were selected as the Ambassadors for their respective tribes and visited their rivals' camps. Both men spent their visits trying to get to know their rivals rather than discussing what the voting dynamics might become in the individual phase. However, Bertrand also hinted to the Mingao tribe members that there might be some people on his own tribe that are more deserving of the Ambassadors' vote than they are and Jean-Bernard also talked about Hakim and his funny behaviour around camp, but also implied that Hakim was the fellow Mingao tribe member that he'd be willing to lose first. At the Ambassadors' Meeting, Bertrand and Jean-Bernard quickly opted for a draw, which resulted in Bertrand receiving the Ambassadors' vote. When the tribes merged, Hakim very quickly socialized with the original Tayak tribe members and tried to convince them not to vote for him. This behaviour was seen as sycophancy by Hakim's fellow original Mingao tribe members and this annoyed them on top of everything else that had annoyed them in relation to Hakim in the past. In response, Jean-Bernard's alliance made plans to vote against Hakim at the merged tribe's first Tribal Council and Jean-Bernard attempted to rally votes against Hakim from the original Tayak tribe members. However, all of the original Tayak tribe members, with the exception of Christophe Guttatoro-Martin and along with Hakim, voted out Jean-Bernard because of his status as the leader of his alliance, his challenge prowess, and his negative attitude and criticisms concerning Hakim.

Le Retour des Héros[]

For the first portion of the opening sudden death challenge, Jean-Bernard was paired up with Christelle Gauzet. Along with Amel Fatnassi and Romuald Lafite, Christelle and Jean-Bernard were among the bottom two pairs, so the four had to compete in a footrace in which the last man and woman to finish would be eliminated from the game. Romuald won against Jean-Bernard, so Jean-Bernard was eliminated.

When the Tupan tribe won the second Reward Challenge on Day 4, they were rewarded with the right to integrate either Amel or Jean-Bernard as a new member of the tribe. The Tupan tribe chose Jean-Bernard, bringing the tribe's numbers back up to six. With three of each gender on the new Tupan tribe, allegiances still seemed to be split along gender lines with Catherine Ehret-Mader, Jean-Bernard, and Tony Sanchez being the tribe members most in danger of being voted out. However, this would not matter as the Tupan tribe won the rest of the tribal Immunity Challenges.

Before the tribes merged, Denis Brogniart informed both tribes separately that it was time for them to appoint Ambassadors. He also informed them that the power of the Ambassadors has increased: instead of casting a vote against someone, the Ambassadors have to eliminate someone. Furthermore, if the Ambassadors do not reach a consensus, they would have to opt for a rock draw in which one of them would be eliminated instead. Feeling indebted to her tribe for being the weakest link in challenges, Catherine volunteered to become the Ambassador for the Tupan tribe. At the Ambassadors' Meeting, Catherine met with fellow Panama contestant Philippe Bordier, who became the Ambassador for the Jacaré tribe after drawing the short straw in a straw draw for the position. Philippe and Catherine failed to convince one another to turn on one of their respective allies and, after the consequential rock draw, Philippe was eliminated from the game.

When the tribes merged, the second Tupan tribe members made plans to vote out François-David Cardonnel at the merged tribe's first Tribal Council. However, François-David won the first Immunity Challenge, which prompted the second Tupan tribe members to switch their target to Émilie Frahi in order to potentially throw François-David off of his game in the next cycle. After the challenge, Catherine became faint and had to be temporarily evacuated from the game. As the corresponding Tribal Council approached, the second Tupan tribe members at camp realized that they should target Clémence Castel instead of Émilie because Clémence had already won the game, unlike Émilie, and because Clémence was stronger than Émilie in challenges. Therefore, the second Tupan tribe members, with the exception of Catherine, who was at the infirmary, changed their plans and voted out Clémence instead. At the Final Eight, Tony told François-David that he felt that a man should win the season. Subsequently, within hours, the tribe seemed to be in a subtle battle of the sexes and, the next day, Catherine told Émilie that the women should vote out Jean-Bernard at the next Tribal Council because, of the remaining men, he joined the Tupan tribe later than its other members. Émilie informed François-David about this new idea, realizing that he and the women could pagong the other men over the next few cycles and, in turn, allow the two of them to make it deeper into the game. However, after François-David won the second individual Immunity Challenge, Denis Brogniart revealed to the tribe that, like once earlier in the season, Tribal Council would be taking place right there and then. With no opportunity to confirm the other plan, François-David and Émilie voted against Tony and the second Tupan tribe members voted out Émilie. At the Final Seven, Tony won the individual Immunity Challenge, but later forfeited the immunity totem because he felt like he didn't properly earn this victory because he asked Jade Handi to throw it for him. In spite of this and the tribe being annoyed by Tony's antics at camp, the second Tupan tribe members eliminated the last of the original Jacaré members, François-David, with the exception of Jade who chose not to vote against François-David as a show of respect.

At the Final Six, in the first round of the third individual Reward Challenge, Buggin' Out, Jean-Bernard lost to Jade and Romuald. He was eliminated from the challenge as Jade and Romuald selected Tony and Catherine to be each other's partners in the second round. This frustrated Jean-Bernard because he felt that he earned his place in the second round more than either Catherine or Tony did. The next day, Jade won the fourth individual Immunity Challenge. At the corresponding Tribal Council, Jean-Bernard voted against Filomène Mendonca for her strategic gameplay. However, the women were unified in their votes, unlike the men, and they voted against Tony for his annoying behaviour and for his idea of an all-male alliance, eliminating him in a 3-1-1-1 vote. Going into the Final Five, Jean-Bernard was pegged as the next to go. Jean-Bernard's loved one for the fourth individual Reward Challenge, Choose Your Weapon, was his girlfriend Éléonore. Romuald broke Jean-Bernard's arrow after winning the first round and, in turn, Catherine broke Romuald's arrow after winning the second round. When Romuald went to sit next to Jean-Bernard, the latter vented to the former that the contestants with significant others as their loved ones, Jade, Romuald, and himself, should have stuck together in the challenge. Overhearing this, Catherine and Filomène were annoyed and Catherine responded to Jean-Bernard that no loved one had priority over another. Ultimately, Filomène won the challenge. Back at camp, Catherine and Jean-Bernard continued to argue that day and the next over Jean-Bernard's opinion concerning the Loved Ones Challenge and Jean-Bernard's neglect of a fire, respectively. Jean-Bernard managed to guarantee himself a place in the finale by winning the fifth individual Immunity Challenge. At the corresponding Tribal Council, Catherine was voted out unanimously as Romuald succeeded in solidifying his affiliation to Jade and Filomène better than Catherine did hers.

Having made it to the finale, Jean-Bernard was eliminated at the Final Four after losing the Orienteering challenge.
