Into the Shangri-La (2001) (走入香格里拉 (2001)) is the first season of Into the Shangri-La.
After 30 days in the Yunnan Province in China, the Sun Village defeated the Moon Village in a final challenge to become Octal Survivors.
Production[]
Over 230,000 people applied to appear on the season, with 60 being chosen for the final selection process. Out of these, 18 would be selected to compete on the show.
The season was locally filmed in the Yunnan Province. Despite being marooned for 30 days, tribes would only be given enough resources to last them 10 days, meaning they would have to carefully conserve their supplies.
The winners would not be awarded a cash prize, but instead, production would help them to fulfil a dream, such as starting a business.
Environmentalists expressed concerns of bringing publicity to a largely untouched area of nature, believing it could potentially increase pollution levels and harm the natural environment.[1][2]
Format[]
- Tribe Composition: The eighteen castaways were divided into two tribes of nine.
- No Voting: No voting would take place during the season. Instead, teamwork would be the main focus of the competition.
- Tribe Captains: Each tribe had a captain for the duration of the season. If one of the captains had to leave the game, a new tribemate would replace them.
