Immunity Island is the titular twist of Survivor South Africa's 8th season.

Premise[]

A variation of Exile Island originally from the U.S. version, Immunity Island is a separate beach from the Vuna and Zamba beaches where one member of the tribe that loses an Immunity Challenge. There, the player is be presented with an Immunity Necklace and two options:

  • Stay and Play: The player will have to wager their vote at the next Tribal Council to compete in a challenge. Winning the challenge will result to the player receiving an advantage in the game, otherwise, the player will receive a consequence. Regardless of the challenge result however, the player may keep the Immunity Necklace to themselves, keeping them safe at Tribal Council though this immunity is not transferrable. Further, by staying on Immunity Island, the player also gets the opportunity to look for a clue to their tribe's Hidden Immunity Idol hidden on Immunity Island. The player will rejoin their tribe at Tribal Council.
  • Give Up and Go: If the player declines to participate in the challenge, they will take the Immunity Necklace and return immediately back to camp. By refusing to play, the player keeps their vote and rejoins their tribe while they discuss the vote back at camp. The Immunity Necklace however will have to be assigned to another player, though the exiled player may refuse to do so, rendering everyone vulnerable from the vote.

Previous disadvantages of Exile Island and its variants such as the castaways being away from their tribe such as being left out from the social dynamics and strategy remain, albeit on a lesser extent as the exiled player is only sequestered on Immunity Island for the afternoon at best.

Strategy[]

  • Sending the tribe's weakest tribe member as leverage in future votes.[1][2]
  • Declining to take the Immunity Island challenge to keep their vote at the next Tribal Council.[3]
  • Sending allies to Immunity Island to secure the available advantage for themselves.
