I Need a Dance Partner is the fourth episode of Survivor: Edge of Extinction.

Story

Night 8

Reem and Keith are shocked to find Chris arriving on the Edge of Extinction, and they taunt and laugh at Chris for feeling the same way they have felt after being voted out - betrayed.

S38 reem t
Reem

"Man, I got blindsided. Man, I can't believe it." Like, seriously? You voted me out, and he totally blindsided Keith, so that is a taste of your own medicine. Give me a break. You're not going to show up here and be treated with open arms. No, thank you! No! This is what I went through! Read the sign, bro. You're not gonna come in here to the freakin' holiday inn. Sorry. It's the Edge of Extinction.

Day 9

At the Manu camp, David tries to make a fire although claiming he is not as good as Chris. Wendy walks in dancing and Kelley remarks how skinny Wendy looks.

S38 wendy t
Wendy

Wendy's always under the threat of going home, but it's never Wendy. Everyone has different styles of playing the game at this point. You don't know what I'm going to do next, but at the same time, I understand that I was being crazy for taking the flint. So I put the flint back and like, David found it. And he's just like, "You guys, I found the flint!" So everyone's like, "Oh look, it mysteriously popped up."

Kelley deduced that Wendy took the flint and tells Lauren. Lauren says that isn't normal. At the fire, Wendy claims she has more in store and hints to David about her master plan which was already revealed to Rick, but she refuses to tell David in case he gets angry. David is surprised to be playing Survivor with someone like Wendy, and is further surprised when Wendy tells him that she wants to win.

S38 wendy t
Wendy

Hey look, I haven't been eliminated so far, so something must be working. I feel like if I just go with the flow, things will work out.

Kelley, Lauren, Wardog, and Rick assemble and talk about voting out Wendy while wondering what is going through her mind.

S38 kelley t
Kelley

Right now, there's five people that are working together and then Wendy is the outsider. She just is not a normal person. She hid our flint and thought it was funny. Who does that? Like she's always gonna be this person you're not going to be able to trust. So it's like Wendy is the vote. That seems to make no sense for everybody.

The tribes reconvene and upon discovering Chris was voted out, Kama delivers huge reactions of shock, most noticeably Julia and Ron. Jeff remarks that the reactions may have been the biggest he has seen to a vote out, and Ron says that it's because it seems like a betrayal for Manu to vote out their strongest in challenges. Lauren says the Kama tribe should not comment about Manu since they do not know what is going on in their camp. A Tribe Switch subsequently occurred, mixing the tribes and introducing the Lesu tribe.

When Jeff said "drop your buffs," I literally turned to Joe and said, "I'm gonna pee my pants right now." You just have this pit in your stomach. You have no control over that part of the game. It's completely random who you end up with. It just immediately turns your whole game upside down.

After the contestants open their new buffs, David, Rick, Lauren and Wardog quickly find the four of them and Kelley are sticking together in the new Lesu tribe. Kelley later realizes her buff is green and not blue as she moves over from Manu to Lesu. Jeff then comments the results of the swap, with Wendy being the only player not to be with their former tribe members. She is given introductory hugs by her new tribe members. Everyone, including Jeff, is stunned, and Gavin, as a super-fan, does not remember recalling a switch of this type. Jeff tells Wendy she would be in trouble on her new tribe in this game of numbers but Wendy believes her tribe looks very athletic enough to win challenges. The players laugh at David's reaction to his new tribe's name. The tribes are then sent to their respective camps.

S38 rick t
Rick

I could not believe that we were all still together as a five, and Wendy is still on the tribe with her tightest alliance, which is the chickens. And I'm just thinking, "Oh good luck. Good luck with Wendy."

Kama arrives back at camp shocked, but then dance together and cheer to remain "Kama strong".

S38 joe t
Joe

Coming into this tribe swap, I was nervous because I didn't really know where I stood in the original OG Kama tribe, but our numbers literally just got cut in half so, a whole new dynamic now. I think the one big difference that I'm doing in this game versus my past seasons is I'm really trying to build more strong, solid relationships. I feel really good with Aurora. Ever since early on, we've kind of connected and I do feel like she is on my side. But there's only five of us, and I really want to make sure that we got a little bit of a majority going so I'm trying to really solidify a relationship with Ron who I seem to have a really good rapport with.

At the water well, Joe and Ron both say that they feel great with each other, and Joe thinks Aurora will vote with them based on her positive behaviour towards him. Ron pretends that the last thing he would want to do is vote Joe out.

S38 ron t
Ron

I had a great conversation with Joe at the watering hole 'cause I had to convince him that I was with him. I acted like I love him, I adore him, and he was like "Ron, I got you." He's swapping around, feeling really confident. What he doesn't know, twenty minutes ago, I told Julia, "Let's just go through Joe's bag. I'll go keep him at the watering hole."

A flashback scene is revealed twenty minutes ago from Ron and Joe's conversations, where Ron tells Julia to look through Joe's bag while Ron keeps Joe busy. Julia does so. Ron later finds Julia on the beach where she tells him that she has found nothing of importance.

S38 ron t
Ron

I had to make sure that Joe doesn't have an idol because if we lose a challenge, I may consider voting him out. He's too big of a threat, he's a challenge beast, and he's a returning player. We need to get him out of here as quickly as possible because if they get to the merge, they can be really dangerous. We're probably not gonna lose a challenge when you look at how strong our tribe is. If we do have to worry about it, we know that Joe doesn't have an idol. He's gonna be an easy target.

At Lesu, Wardog deduces the odds of the swap being less than one percent. Wardog tells the tribe how they can win challenges due to the former Kama tribe being supposedly split on challenge strength. The tribe wonders what Wendy is telling her new tribe members.

S38 rick t
Rick

The good thing about being all together on the new Lesu tribe is we have relationships together; we trust each other. The problem is if we don't win out, we're going to fracture real quick. Wendy was the odds-out gal, and we could all kind of rally around that and now we're all looking at each other. There's no odd person out. There's no distractions. We just know that if we lose, one of us is going home and thus far, we have not been good at winning.

The tribe attempts to build a new shelter and make a new fire for the camp.

S38 kelley t
Kelley

Coming to a new camp sucks. There is no shelter. There's very little rice. Being a returning player I know that Survivor's hard. Even the strongest person can break under these circumstances.

While building the shelter, Lauren almost vomits from feeling ill. She refuses to eat a lot of the camp rations.

S38 lauren t
Lauren

I think I though coming out here would be super fun and like, I really underestimated how difficult it is to not eat and to not sleep. It's a lot harder than I was ever expecting it to be. I'm so hungry but like, I can't eat the rice anymore because it just makes me really nauseous. But more than that, I think the hardest part for me is not being able to touch my family. I really miss my mom and dad. A lot. And it's really hard not to have that support system that tells you like, "It's okay." Like, "Everything's going to be okay." And so you're kind of with these, you know, four other people that you kind of trust, but they're not your family. They're just people that you're competing against.

Wendy shows Aubry, Victoria, Eric, and Gavin around Manu camp, including the water well and the best places to fish.

S38 aubry t
Aubry

I am really excited about the tribe swap. We have four Kama with a lone Manu. If we lose, we've got Wendy. She's the easy pick-off. The thing is that's tough is that I really like Wendy. She is very sweet and she's a kind heart.

While they all sit on the beach, Eric tells Wendy she has spunk and Gavin says the views at Manu are better than that at Kama. Wendy then reveals she was happy to be with her new tribemates as her old tribemates were treating her badly. Wendy describes Kelley as the ringleader and believes from her observations that David and Kelley do not wish to work together.

S38 aubry t
Aubry

Damn, that girl is giving me everything about the Manu tribe! She's giving us a full rundown of every single player. This girl is a wealth of information and she's an asset.

The tribe asks Wendy if they have any chickens left and after answering them, she tells them they have fishing gear. Wendy tells the tribe the chicken's will start laying eggs so they can eat the eggs, but not the chickens. Looking at the chickens, Eric wants to eat them if they don't lay eggs. While Gavin and Eric talk about how to kill and cook a chicken, Wendy is focused on with a slightly angry expression.

As night falls and the rest of the tribe sleep, Wendy releases the chickens from the coop, not before reassuring and petting them.

S38 wendy t
Wendy

I genuinely left my new tribe. I feel really bad that I'm doing this. It's that I know on their agenda it was to kill these chickens and obviously I had my own agenda. I finally did my plan of releasing the chickens! They're free! Their lives are saved! This is my master plan. I'm ecstatic! I just have to head back now, go to sleep, and pretend, "where's the chickens?" I'm so happyyy!

Day 10

S38 keith t
Keith

From the start of the night, this storm wants to come. All you can do is just sit there in your wetness and just be angry. Just me mad. Be hungry, be whatever. It just sucks. The mind is your strongest thing you can have out here but it's also the most dangerous thing. It has made me look at that mast, that raising that mast is like a- like a complete solution. Like, that mast is my food, that mast is my burger, it's a nice bed, it's a hot shower, it's a freaking dry towel, that mast is everything. So my mind is like my freaking best friend and also my worst enemy.

S38 chris t
Chris

I don't want to be here, but I am. It's like voluntary torture. I'm stuck on the island with two people that are pissed at me. I've got nothing but myself. It's really hard being out here. A lot of my fears started to come out. I've got a fear of failure. Um, need for approval, like just trying to be perfect. This is perfectionist. And you know all those fears happen. I failed, like it got me voted out. This idea of playing a perfect game is completely shot. So coming to terms with that, maybe that's a part of this journey, too.

S38 chris t
Chris

Real test of adaptations is gonna come out here. I'm out here to get as far as I possibly can despite all the obstacles that are being thrown at me right now. I don't know what this island has in store yet. Are we on a tribe? Are we going against each other? Time will tell, so I'm just going to look out for them as best I can and hope they look out for me. We're kind of a strange family out here.

S38 eric t
Eric

In the morning, chickens are gone. To me, it seems like there's only one person here who doesn't want us to eat the chicken, and that's Big Wendy.

S38 eric t
Eric

Chickens, I just think is a soft spot for Wendy's heart, but if I catch one, it's not going back in the coop, it's going under the machete. It's crazy, she… (interrupted by chicken clucking offscreen) Serious? Not cool. Not cool, chickens!

S38 victoria t
Victoria

Girl, you set free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Like, I'm still 100% all for killing the chickens. I do not care if Wendy cries herself to sleep at night. She kind of went nuts. You'd rather get voted out than see a chicken die? Like, it's bizarre. That's not someone you can trust. That's, you know, someone you vote out.

Day 11

S38 kelley t
Kelley

This tribe is so bad. We're like the Cleveland Browns of tribes. Like we can't get anything right. I feel like I'm honestly in a nightmare. This is a group of five people that has been voting together and now, we're like cutting out one of the family. It's horrible.

S38 rick t
Rick

So Lesu proves to be as good at losing as Manu. We can't do anything to get on that winner's podium and now we have to cannibalize ourselves, like someone's going home. It really sucks. You build these relationships and you think they're going to be the relationships that propel you forward in the game, and then we end up in a position where the people we trust the most, we got to turn on.

S38 david t
David

Wentworth is the person I want out of this game for sure, but the timing just isn't right. I've no evidence to back this up, but I'm a hundred percent convinced that Wentworth has a Hidden Immunity Idol. I know Wentworth's game. She always starts looking for the idol on Day 1, and so, I think best case scenario tonight is that the votes go towards Lauren.

S38 lauren t
Lauren

Going into this tribal I feel like my life in this game is on the line. I'm worried that they are going to thing I'm the weakest, even though I don't think I am. I think not eating gives us that perception of "Oh, that's a reason to vote her out." But I was a collegiate athlete, I played divisional in soccer for four years, like I'm a strong player and I don't even think people know it.

S38 lauren t
Lauren

I think I have a little bit of security knowing that I have the idol, but that's stressful to play too because I want to be able to bring my idol into the merge.

S38 kelley t
Kelley

Wardog is in control of this vote. I think he does want to work with me. My only fear is that he could use David and Devens to vote out Lauren. It'd be very bad for me. Wardog's very hard to read. I think he's trying to play Survivor like poker, so I don't know if he's telling the truth. I know he's not just having that conversation with me, there's no way.

S38 wardog t
Wardog

After being able to talk to each person individually, it's obvious that I'm at a classic swing vote spot and I love it, because I have love for this game. Whether it was being in the army, whether it was playing poker, or now in law school, I'm always thinking, always going through options. Never closing doors. That's what I'm doing now. The five of us that are left are real tight-knit group, but it's no longer about the tribe now. It's about Wardog and I need a dance partner. Who can get the wardog closer to a million dollars? Sometimes you just have to just go with your instinct, go with your different skills, different tools, blow them all together in a blender and see what color comes out, and that's what I'm doing right now.

Challenges

Immunity Challenge: Yank Your Hank
Each tribe must climb over two sets of A-frames, while carrying a rope. They must then use the rope to pull a trunk on a track. Once the trunk is at the end of the track, tribes must use the pieces in the trunk to solve a puzzle. The first two tribes to finish their puzzle win.
Winners (according to finish): Kama and Manu
