I Am Goliath Strong is the third episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath.
Story[]
Night 6[]
The David tribe quietly returns to camp from Tribal Council after blindsiding Jessica.
Davie |
“ | There was absolutely tension when we get back from Tribal Council because me, Bi and Carl were blindsided. I got to give it to them though; it was great game play. They played me. Luckily, I have the Hidden Immunity Idol right now and it's something that can save me but being left out of the vote; I'm shocked. | ” |
Davie pulls Christian aside to ask why he betrayed him. Christian understands Davie's frustrations but he explains it was Gabby who convinced him and Nick to flip on Jessica. After his conversation with Davie, Christian runs to Nick to congratulate him on the success of their "Mason-Dixon" alliance.
Davie |
“ | Gabby! She's a smart one man! She's manipulative. She was able to persuade both Nick and Christian, two of my top guys, to vote against me. So she's the one you have to watch out for, man! | ” |
Nick |
“ | Mason-Dixon just pulled the best move we could possibly pull because we were right in the middle, right where we want to be. We got the girls who think we are in a five person alliance with them but then we got Bi and Davie and Carl who were completely blindsided and don't want to go home. So that puts the Mason-Dixon Line right in the middle. The beauty of the situation is that nobody suspects me and Christian were actually behind this. I want to make them think it's Gabby's fault that Jessica's gone but the truth is, if we lose again, Mason-Dixon is going to decide who goes home again. | ” |
Carl sits alone by the beach and turns emotional over the loss of his close ally and daughter figure in Jessica; which makes him miss home more.
Carl |
“ | I didn't expect this game to be this hard. Jess was kind of like a daughter to me. She was a little sweetheart. Losing my number one ally, it really made me miss home. I love my family dearly and all of a sudden they're gone and you feel almost all alone but, being a David, I always came from the bottom and worked for everything that I have so I really have to turn it up one more notch. | ” |
Day 7[]
Sunrise at the David camp, Bi expresses to Carl her displeasure for being blindsided. The two lobby to Nick to vote out Gabby next believing it was her who orchestrated last night's vote.
Bi |
“ | I was really truly hurt by the blindside, but it woke me up. It was like, "okay girl, time to play! It's happening!" I was playing a simple game just going along with how people were voting but in fighting, you have to be adaptable and you have to be ruthless. So I'm going to do my damnedest because once the door shuts, anything goes. I'm going to put my game face on. I didn't expect much loyalty from the other ones that flipped but from Gabby I expected a lot; and she left me out of the loop. It's a little bit personal but also it's a lot personal. In a perfect world, I would love to see Gabby go home. | ” |
At the Goliath tribe, John puts the new fishing gear that they won from the last challenge to good use. He returns to camp with fish, to the tribe's delight. With him and his tribe having a good time, John is glad to be known as himself and not as his professional wrestler self.
John |
“ | When you're winning like we've been doing, everybody is in a really good mood. So right now, the game for me is about connecting with people. Out here, I'm not the mayor of Slamtown, I'm not the Pro Wrestler, I'm me. It seems to me that I'm getting better at old-school human skills, conversations, laughing with friends. It's not just about scheming and figuring out who has to be voted out next. It is about growing as a person and connecting with people. | ” |
The tribe's fun moment is ruined by Natalie when she abrasively barks orders at her tribemates to do camp chores. John, however, is confident he can work with and trust Natalie.
John |
“ | Unfortunately, I think Natalie is on the chopping block. She's used to be the boss bitch, telling people what to do and getting things done and it doesn't work like that out here. But, I trust Natalie and I also think that Natalie trusts me and Natalie is someone that I can work with if we can figure a way to get her passed the next couple of Tribal Councils and down the line. | ” |
Mike assists Jeremy in his own attempt to use the fishing spear. In their trip, Jeremy shares to Mike that fishing reminds him of his with his father who has early-onset Bi and how they used to fish early in the morning. In turn, Mike has kind words for the attorney, but in his confessional, Mike is skeptical about the idea of playing with Jeremy long-term especially after he went through everyone's belongings just to know who might have the Hidden Immunity Idol.
Day 8[]
At the David tribe, Gabby asks Christian the basics of Slamtown. Being her fellow intellectual, Gabby is convinced Christian is her ride-or-die ally.
Christian |
“ | I think that John on the other tribe, the mayor of Slam Town, is immensely fascinating. He was presumably born and raised in Slam town which sounds awesome to me, but in Wimpville, where I grew up, we had hard times. So, I can't wait to hear what Slamtown is like. | ” |
Gabby |
“ | Christian is just the sweetest guy and he's funny; he always cracks jokes and I feel we're cut from the same cloth. He's my number one ally in this game. The nerds have it; like, we're it! | ” |
Bi, Davie, Elizabeth, and Nick are out at sea to fish. While Elizabeth is underwater spearfishing, Bi continues her campaign against Gabby. Unknown to her, however, while Gabby was in the plan in blindsiding Jessica, it was Nick and Christian who were the actual swing votes then. Nick is pleased by Bi being misinformed but is also worried that he might lose Christian's trust knowing Christian is also close with Gabby.
Bi |
“ | I will never trust Gabby again because she left me out of the loop so right now I'm seeing where everyone is at because if we're all on the same page, we can get her out. | ” |
Nick |
“ | Bi is telling me how dangerous Gabby is and I'm thinking; yes, that sounds great for me because I wanted to pin all the blame on Gabby and keep Mason-Dixon safe. So, everything went together perfectly. The only thing that worries me is that Christian and Gabby are close but he's part of Mason-Dixon; he's like my number one and I want to make sure I'm his number one. So, if I can get Gabby out of here, I'm going to do it. | ” |
At the Goliath tribe, Jeremy becomes paranoid upon seeing multiple side conversations around camp that he is not a part of. He holds a tribe meeting, warning the tribe that these small talks will sow distrust within the tribe and could hurt them come a tribe swap or merge. Most of the tribe sees through Jeremy's paranoia.
Jeremy |
“ | What happened today is I saw too many side conversations that made me uncomfortable. I'm the biggest threat right now because they know I think things out. | ” |
Kara |
“ | Jeremy is seeing people kind of couple off, talk in groups. I wasn't strategizing; and as for right now, we don't have to strategize because nobody is getting voted out so it's just paranoia talking. | ” |
Mike |
“ | I think Jeremy has a point: Right now, we should still see each other as teammates. However, he is the person who he should be talking to. I think he is constantly spinning strategies and possible scenarios and I think that's going to come back and bite him in the butt. | ” |
Angelina |
“ | Jeremy is very smart. I think part of his speech was strategy in the sense that if we start to slow down on the conversations then we stick with the status quo, the status quo being Natalie. But if these conversations keep happening then people might start to wake up to the fact that it would be better to take out someone who is a longer term threat like Jeremy. | ” |
Later, seeing Dan and Kara bonding at the beach, Jeremy proceeds to tell everyone he found the idol in Dan's belongings and insists that one of the two should go next flush out the idol.
John |
“ | Jeremy claims that he found an idol in Dan's jacket, but it makes me a little leery of what Jeremy has up his fancy sleeves. Only someone who is running around scheming is going to be paranoid enough tell everyone: "hey! hey! let's not have any side conversations, let's stay ten strong which is crazy! He's playing the game hard. Do I blame him? No. Do I trust him? No. | ” |
Day 9[]
Under heavy rains, the survivors arrive at the next Immunity Challenge in which Jeff Probst is amazed by their enthusiasm despite the harsh weather. After explaining the rules of the challenge, Jeff informs them they are also playing for reward: pillows, blankets, hammocks, and chairs. With two extra members, the Goliaths bench Angelina and Natalia.
Alec and Bi are the first to run for their tribes. Alec gets tangled up, allowing Bi to take a short lead for the Davids. Bi injures herself and hobbles her way back to the mat, giving Alec time to close the gap for the Goliaths. Davie, Lyrsa and Nick, and Jeremy Kara, and Mike are out to untangle the next set of ropes where both trios end at the same time. Carl and Elizabeth face Dan and John then compete to land their ring on the sled with the puzzle pieces. John is successful first, allowing the Goliaths to drag the sled to their mat so Alison and Natalie can start solving the puzzle. Not long after, Elizabeth hooks her ring on the David's sled. As Alison and Natalie struggle to solve the puzzle, Christian and Gabby complete theirs, securing the David tribe its first immunity win, sending the Goliaths to their first Tribal Council. After the loss, Natalia states Angelina would have done better at the challenge and implies Natalie should have given the challenge to those who can do it.
Natalia |
“ | Natalie was the reason why we lost this puzzle. I don't know what she does in her everyday life bossing people around, but she needs to continue doing that because this isn't the place for her. So for tonight's vote, if I had it my way, I'd be writing a smiley face next to Natalie's name. | ” |
The David tribe returns to camp after winning their first Immunity Challenge, but Bi does not have much to celebrate as she sprained her knee at the challenge.
Bi |
“ | I tore my MCL [while] training MMA way before Survivor, and actually I had to pull out of a really big fight and nursed it for two months. Unfortunately at the challenge, I felt something unstable. I know my knee, that scares me; it's very weak right now, and this is not an easy game physically at all. | ” |
At the Goliath camp, Natalie admits to Jeremy she is to blame for the loss but pleads to him to help her stay. Having been candid to each other as African-Americans, Jeremy bluntly tells Natalie how she comes off across everyone and helping her out would be "an uphill battle."
Natalie |
“ | I felt bad about the loss particularly because it happened on my piece of the challenge which is the puzzle-solving aspect, but all I can do it play it out at this point. | ” |
Jeremy |
“ | In the past, I tried to step in as the mediator, but Natalie has poor self-awareness and communication skills. So I already know she's not gonna learn but so much even though it's a benefit to her. You can only do what you can do. | ” |
Alison vents her frustration to Angelina on Natalie's inability to solve the puzzle and is willing to vote her out for it. Angelina, however, introduces the idea of sparing Natalie over Jeremy, explaining that Natalie is not a threat to anyone, but Jeremy is. Angelina strongly pitches to Alison to reconsider.
Alison |
“ | Natalie has been digging her own grave since Day 1; and one could argue that by stepping up for the puzzle and falling short, that she just put the final nail on her coffin. | ” |
Angelina |
“ | Jeremy is the much better first person to go because he is smart, charming, playing really hard, and not super trustworthy; versus Natalie, who in all considerations is pretty harmless in my opinion. In my day-to-day life, I use the power of persuasion; I use it if I'm pulled over by a police officer for going a little bit too fast, for getting discounts at restaurants, whatever it may be. Because everyone is dead-set on Natalie, I know it's gonna be a lot of leg work; but for me, what makes me a Goliath, that if I can whip these votes to completely to shift over from Natalie to Jeremy, that's my shining moment of this game, at least one of many, I hope. | ” |
As Angelina secretly launches her campaign against Jeremy, Mike is adamant in voting Natalie because she is a liability at challenges and a demoralizer at camp. Later, Natalia and Alec argue that come a tribe switch, Natalie could switch loyalties, but Angelina explains Jeremy is the better talker and has more capacity to betray them than Natalie will.
Mike |
“ | I thought this was a done deal; Natalie is like an unpleasant drain around camp and Jeremy is this force of life who I really love. It's crazy that in nine days you can get to know someone to feel really attached and I know how much the game means to Jeremy. | ” |
At the beach, Jeremy attempts to talk to Kara and John, but Natalie shows up, insisting she has to talk to them without Jeremy's presence. Kara offers to join Natalie, but Jeremy interrupts them.
Natalie |
“ | Guess what, I'm not just gonna stand still and take the punch. I was a softball player, and I still play soft ball, I'm in a women's softball team, so trust me, I can throw some low balls. | ” |
Jeremy |
“ | Natalie is the perfect blend of incompetent and overconfident; now she's more than ever obvious vote because she has nothing to offer. | ” |
The Goliath enters Tribal Council on a rainy night. Angelina describes the first nine days as harsh, while Mike admits his standards of comfort had gone so low even as going far as treating a basket like a pillow. As the rains intensify, Jeremy calls out Natalie and her flaws. Natalie fires back at Jeremy, describing his tone to her as just as rude as how he perceives her. Dan agrees with Natalie being seen as bossy and confrontational; with Natalie saying she is open to criticism. Everyone chimes in to express their perception of Natalie most of which are negative. Natalia explains the game is about choosing the right people to work with down the line. Natalie interjects, saying she is not a threat but Jeremy is. Jeremy states Natalie is a liability in challenges and a possible traitor come a tribe switch. Natalie swears she is "Goliath strong", and would never betray her tribe. In the end, Jeremy's paranoia catches up with him, making him the second person voted out of Survivor: David vs. Goliath in a unanimous 9-1 vote.

Voting Confessionals[]
Jeremy was shown writing Natalie's name on the parchment.
Natalie |
“ | (voting against Jeremy) You talked that brother-sister love stuff, and you showed me no love. So that stinging sensation you feel in your eyes right now? That's the Natalie napalm. Get off of my island. By the way, your skin is gorgeous, darling. | ” |
Final Words[]
Jeremy |
“ | I'm proud of the game I played, you know, and I'm proud of the connections I made. Natalie, what I did for you was try to help you understand a little bit about how you're being perceived. And, if you receive it, great. You know, I learned more about who I am, so for me it's kinda a win. But if you gotta go home, go home on a cold, rainy night. | ” |
