Nils "Harald" Ossian Treutiger is a former host of Expedition Robinson. He is the very first host of the Survivor franchise.
Profile[]
Having come to fame as a journalist and newscaster, Treutiger came to the show with a few game shows under his belt including 24 Karat and Rema rama sanningen, as well as having hosted Eurovision in 1992. His authoritative yet amicable presentation style came to define how the hosts of many European iterations - including Juanma López Iturriaga in Spain and Mark Austin in the UK - approached the format.
Hosting Robinson[]
Treutiger's stage personality matched the tall, authoritative Göteborg stereotype with which he became associated, especially with his catchphrase "Okaj, okaj?". He was credited with bringing the neutral yet inquisitive role that defines many successful hosts of the format since, something he was largely prepared for with his journalism background. Especially with the first series of the show suffering from many controversies near the start, having been considered too risky for Swedish television, Treutiger's hosting skills were largely felt to have helped turn the show into one of the country's biggest hits. Treutiger left Expedition Robinson after jumping ship to TV3 in 1998, being replaced by Anders Lundin. His TV career started to falter soon after his departure, with his next big TV project Jakten på ökenguldet (the Swedish version of French format The Desert Forges) being regarded as a flop. Treutiger has since largely concentrated on his business ventures and after-dinner speaking.
Treutiger returned as part of a twist for a couple of episodes in 2011, and after his arrival was leaked he admitted that he would not necessarily turn down an offer to return to the show, yet suggested that his presentation style was too warm for the modern format.
