At Sele, Jeremy and Parvati bond over being parents who have young children back at home. Parvati talks about how much she has changed since he has become a mom, and gets emotional when she mentions that she had to leave her ten month old baby back at home. Ethan talks about his struggle with cancer and excitement of coming back to ''Survivor''. He then bonds with Danni over being old school players who never played with [[Hidden Immunity Idol]]s. Adam and Denise bond over Denise's desire not to visit every [[Tribal Council]] this time while looking for the water well, but the rest of the tribe notices their absence, making them concerned, with Jeremy pointing out that Adam and Denise are making a rookie mistake.

Rob, feeling like he can trust her due to her telling him the truth, talks to her about working together and forming an old school alliance with him, Ethan, and Parvati, which she seems open to.

In the morning, Sele is scrambling in preparation for Tribal Council. Adam and Denise are on the chopping block for going off alone together the previous day. Ben, wanting to keep Adam because he thinks that Adam can help him in the game, warns him about what is going on, infuriating Adam. Adam then talks to both Ben and Ethan about splitting up Jeremy and Natalie due to their previous relationship on ''San Juan del Sur''. Ethan relays Adam's plan to Parvati and Rob, which they seem open to, with Rob considering himself as the swing vote. When Ben, Danni, Jeremy, Natalie, and Parvati try to discuss which of Adam or Denise should be the target, nobody is willing to give a straight answer. Meanwhile, Parvati and Rob are shocked they they are in power despite how dangerous they are.

Greatest of the Greats is the season premiere of Survivor: Winners at War.

Story

Day 1

Twenty previous Sole Survivors arrive in Fiji on two boats, with one boat containing ten men and the other ten women.

Tony Vlachos (Cagayan) says he that is impressed with the competition. Parvati Shallow (Micronesia) says that she has not been able to be her old diabolical self since the last time she played the game because she is now raising a family. Ethan Zohn (Africa) explains his battle with cancer and how it is a miracle that he is back on Survivor. Amber Mariano (All-Stars) says that she never imagined meeting her husband on the show and winning the game. She also says that she is here to win a second time. Michele Fitzgerald (Kaôh Rōng) says "everybody is going to be laying it all on the line". Sarah Lacina (Game Changers) says "it's gonna be a bloodbath". Jeremy Collins (Cambodia) says "it's gonna be a war". Adam Klein (Millennials vs. Gen X) proclaims "let the fireworks begin".

S40 tony t
Tony
I have a big reputation in Survivor, but seeing my competitors, I'm like, "Oh, man!" Fans of football, they wait all year to see the Super Bowl at the end. Fans of Survivor have been waiting 20 years to see Winners at War.
S40 parvati t
Parvati
I haven't had an opportunity to be my diabolical self at all in the past couple of years. I've been busy building a family. But I'm like a phoenix rising from the ashes, ready to burn down your house.
S40 ethan t
Ethan
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. I remember dreaming and praying that I'd be alive long enough to play Survivor again. And so, it is a miracle that I'm sitting here today.
S40 amber t
Amber
I was a kid the first time I played the game. Little did I know that I was gonna fall in love, beat my husband, get engaged at the finale, win the show. But now to be asked back for season 40, all winners? I wanna win the game. To come out here and win two times and beat my husband again? That would be awesome.

After arriving on the beach, two-time winner Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands and Heroes vs. Villains) is shocked to see that Rob Mariano (Redemption Island) is playing alongside Amber, because Rob never told her that he was coming back despite the two spending thirty-six days together on the Island of the Idols. Sandra says that she feels betrayed by Rob for not telling her that he was coming back.

S40 sandra t
Sandra
I'm shocked to see Rob and Amber. I spent 36 days with Boston Rob on Island of the Idols, and Boston Rob never told me that he was playing again. And so, I definitely feel betrayed.

Host Jeff Probst greets everyone on the beach. He first reminds Wendell Holland (Ghost Island) how many times he applied to be on the show and that he fulfilled his dream by winning. He then asks him how he feels. Wendell says that it is the greatest feeling to be here with so many legends. Jeff asks Yul Kwon (Cook Islands) if he sees the game differently due to a long having passed since he last played. Yul talks about how he has to change like Survivor, people, and the world. Jeff asks Amber what it means to her to be back this time as she is a different woman than when she first played in The Australian Outback. Amber says that she is excited to be a part of season 40 and that she could not pass up the opportunity.

S40 ben t
Ben
My competition here is the greatest of the great, and it's a good feeling because we're all here to be part of something special. But everyone will be guns-a-blazin', everyone will be swords-a-swinging, you know, and there's just gonna be limbs and heads flying everywhere.

Jeff gives everyone champagne and toasts to season 40. After the toast, he announces the theme: Winners at War. Jeff then hands them all buffs, much to the surprise of Natalie Anderson (San Juan del Sur), who expected it to be men versus women. The red buffs are the Dakal tribe, while the blue buffs are the Sele tribe.

S40 sarah t
Sarah
Even though I'm the most recent female winner out here, it's pretty nerve-racking, because I have nine of the most intimidating women right next to me. I mean, Winners at War? It just sounds nasty.

Dakal consists of Amber, Sandra, Sarah, Tony, Wendell, Yul, Kim Spradlin-Wolfe (One World), Nick Wilson (David vs. Goliath), Sophie Clarke (South Pacific), and Tyson Apostol (Blood vs. Water).

Sele consists of Adam, Ethan, Jeremy, Michele, Natalie, Parvati, Rob, Ben Driebergen (Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers), Danni Boatwright (Guatemala), and Denise Stapley (Philippines).

After the tribes have been revealed, Jeff asks Tony how he feels about his tribe. Tony says that he likes the people that he is playing with, briefly recounting his history with Sarah and Sandra in particular. Jeff tells the players what they need to know about the season. He first tells them about Fire Tokens, a new twist where everyone starts with one token each. He explains that Fire Tokens have value, but the players would have to will their Fire Tokens to another player if they are voted out. He then tells them about the return of the Edge of Extinction, and the grand prize being doubled to $2,000,000.

The two tribes then immediately compete in a combined Reward/Immunity Challenge: By Any Means Necessary. In the first round, Tyson and Yul beat Ethan and Jeremy to score a point for Dakal. In the second round, a hotly contested battle ends with Kim and Sarah defeating Natalie and Parvati to give Dakal a 2-0 lead. In the next round, Ben and Rob beat Tony and Wendell to give Sele their first point. In the fourth round, Amber and Sarah defeat Denise and Natalie to win a reward of flint and rice for Dakal, as well as immunity.

After the challenge, Jeff hands the tribes the maps to their camps. He informs Sele that they must go to Tribal Council the next night and will not have flint or rice until then. He then sends the tribes off to their camps to build their shelters.

S40 adam t
Adam
To lose the Immunity Challenge on Day 1, that's my worst fear because we're playing Winners at War Survivor, which means there's no easy target, but somebody has to go.

After Dakal arrives at their camp, they find a Fire Token menu, which allows them to buy food and advantages for challenges. Wendell does not want to be busy with building the shelter, but the rest of his tribe is aware that he is a furniture designer by profession, leaving him to take on the role of leading the shelter-building. Tyson gets emotional when he talks about his kids. Sandra talks about her time in Game Changers, and says she wants to prove that she is the queen and that everyone wants her crown.

S40 yul t
Yul
We get to our island, and I'm thinking, "I can't believe this is happening." I was just super happy to be on Survivor again, and especially on kind of a all winners edition. But seeing all these people and realizing how long ago I played... (chuckles) it's kind of overwhelming.
S40 nick t
Nick
We were given the in-game currency called a Fire Token. And this is the next step, this is the next evolution. In my opinion, these tokens are gonna end up being a huge part of the game. And I think the winner of this season will be the person who is able to use the currency correctly. I am from the newer seasons where we're used to twists. We understand there's unpredictable facets of the game, so I think my chances to win this game got much higher.

After winning Survivor season 36, Ghost Island, I think people know me as somebody that knows how to build, but this season, I was trying to come out here and not build as much. I wanted to build relationships, I didn't necessarily wanna build the whole shelter again, because when you're busy building, you're stuck at camp. It's like being stuck in a corner at a party. But I also know, like, this talent pool is different, it's all winners, so I'm going to play my position and be cool, chill out a little bit, just get a read on them.
S40 tyson t
Tyson
Honestly, Survivor has been my profession for the last 12 years. The thing that has made winning the million dollars so great is that I am able to spend time with my kids at home every day. And... I don't want to cry on Day 1 here, but it's like... I know everybody does the nine to five, but I-I can't. Like, I get to get up every morning with my daughters and get 'em ready for the day and hang out pretty much all day everyday. So even coming out here for me was a big deal, because I've never left them for longer than a couple days at a time. So, yeah, I'm grateful to Survivor for that.
S40 sandra t
Sandra
You ask anybody that's a Survivor fan: "Who's the queen?" And they will tell you it's me. I'm the only person here that knows what it's like to win twice.
S40 sandra t
Sandra
And I know what it's like to go up against Tony, and I know what it's like to go up against Sarah. I've played on Game Changers with them and me and Tony had it out. So I'm here to prove why I'm the queen, and I know everyone wants a piece of me. They all want what I already have, which is my crown.

At Sele, Jeremy and Parvati bond over being parents who have young children back at home. Parvati talks about how much she has changed since he has become a mom, and gets emotional when she mentions that she had to leave her ten-month-old baby back at home. Ethan talks about his struggle with cancer and excitement of coming back to Survivor. He then bonds with Danni over being old school players who never played with Hidden Immunity Idols. Adam and Denise bond over Denise's desire not to visit every Tribal Council this time while looking for the water well, but the rest of the tribe notices their absence, making them concerned, with Jeremy pointing out that Adam and Denise are making a rookie mistake.

S40 rob t
Rob
Obviously, I have a huge target on myself. I just was on season 39 where they built an idol of me. By losing in the beginning, I'm already putting myself at a huge disadvantage. Fortunately, now we have to start to build a shelter and vote somebody off. The game is on already.
S40 parvati t
Parvati
It's been ten years since I played the game and it's a little strange to be playing this game connecting over babies. I'm not the flirty girl that I was once, because the last few times I've played, I've been a single girl and I came out pretty hot and heavy as the flirt. But I'm a mom now, I'm married, I left my ten month-old baby at home with my husband. Oh my gosh, it's just, it-it hits me when I think about her. Being a mom is an absolute new life change that can help me to relate to people in a totally different way, so I'm totally using the mom card. Are you kidding me?
S40 ethan t
Ethan
Going through cancer, it-- you know, it's hard, but life after cancer, you know, that's when... it really got tough. The fear of relapse, the fear of death, it's with you all the time. It's not a way to live your life, and being here and saying yes to an all winners edition of Survivor, this is living. And I wanna, like, resurrect that 27 year old, like, young, innocent guy to come back and play this game, the game that I love. The game that changed my life. I'm really happy to be here, and I'm excited to see how I play in this new era of Survivor. And so I'm back and I'm ready to play, and everyone better watch out.
S40 denise t
Denise
Losing that very first challenge, I was like, "Oh my god, here we go again!" I had flashbacks. We lost every challenge, which then meant I had to go to every Tribal Council, but at least I was able to have that alliance with Malcolm.
S40 jeremy t
Jeremy
Denise and Adam, they walk off. Really rookie moves for winners to do that is-is unheard of. People are just looking for something and it's so early in the game, you don't want to rock the boat. When you rock the boat, sometimes you fall out.

Back at Dakal, Tony is keen on running out to look for a Hidden Immunity Idol, but restrains himself, as he does not want to repeat the same mistake he made on Game Changers. Amber attempts to look for an idol, and talks about how she has to keep up with the game. Yul talks to Sophie about working together. They discuss Rob and Tyson having previously played poker with Kim and Jeremy in 2018 where Tyson remarks how the four of them would be an alliance if they ever played the game together.[2]

S40 tony t
Tony
I desperately want the Immunity Idol, especially for a season like this and oh, my God, it took everything out of me not to just (darting sound) and just take off running and look for an idol. I seen what happened to me in Game Changers. My first 30 seconds, I ran around the whole island three times.
S40 tony t
Tony
But right now, I don't wanna put a target on my back by showing them that I'm back to the old Tony Vlachos' antics. So I want everybody to get nice and comfortable with me, 'cause their guards are here right now and they're slowly coming down as they see Tony around the camp all day, all night. It's coming down like this, and when it gets down to here... (throws punch) bang! That's where the sucker punch comes in.
S40 amber t
Amber
People seemed pretty comfortable when we got here. They just wanted to work on the shelter and do this and do that. And I'm thinking in my head, "Am I supposed to be out looking for an idol?," because I feel like I do have a big target on my back. The fact that Rob and I are both out here. I had a hard time at the first challenge, I was rooting for my team... I'm gonna get emotional. But it was hard to root against my husband. I'm his biggest fan. I feel like people think we have this huge advantage because we're out here together, but I feel like it's probably more a disadvantage than it is an advantage. But I learned a lot from my husband. This game never stops. As soon as you sit back and relax, that's when something goes wrong. So, I've gotta take advantage of this time. I gotta do it.
S40 yul t
Yul
When I played Cook Islands, I tried to play a very rational, strategic game. I used a lot of game theory, I used a lot of math. But this season, I think my biggest challenge will be coming in disconnected. I haven't been part of the Survivor community. A lot of these people have played with each other, they know each other. Among the people played multiple times, you have Boston Rob, you have Tyson, who played together. They're like best friends, right? And they not only played Survivor together, they played poker together. Then they also played with Kim Spradlin and Jeremy Collins and I remember watching one video where Tyson actually said something to the effect of, "Hey, if we're ever on an island, this is gonna be the power alliance." Come on!
S40 sophie t
Sophie
Right now, I think you got, like, the cool person alliance of Kim and Amber and Tyson, who all are telling jokes all the time and looking pretty. And then you have on the other side, the kind of gritty group, which is, you know, Tony, Sandra and Sarah, uh, who all played together in the past. And then you have a couple of us who are kind of in the middle, and I'd put myself and Yul in that position. People talk about, like, having meat shields around-- I feel like I have my own nerd shield in Yul, and, like, I will never be the smartest person on the tribe as long as I have Yul there, like, you know, talking about physics or whatever. But I think the number one thing on my mind is not who I want to work with, it's who I want out.

Back at Sele, Parvati and Rob discuss their past together in Heroes vs. Villains, and agree to work together this time. Danni talks to Adam, Ben, and Ethan about targeting Rob due to him playing so many times and having a lot of connections. Ben, however, reveals this to Rob rather easily in response to Rob's interrogation. Rob then confronts Danni, who comes clean. Rob, feeling like he can trust her due to her telling him the truth, talks to her about working together and forming an old school alliance with him, Ethan, and Parvati, which she seems open to.

S40 parvati t
Parvati
Rob and I have a history that is a checkered past, to say the least. Rob went after me in Heroes vs. Villains and then I was partly responsible for him getting voted out pre-merge in that game. So I don't know how Rob is going to want to play with me. I like Rob and I think he's someone that I can trust, because I doubt that he has very many other options.
S40 danni t
Danni
Survivor: Guatemala, that I won, season 11, long time ago, it was a whole different style of play, and coming into this I was a little nervous. And I know we won't get very many opportunities to get rid of major targets like Rob. He's well liked, he's connected, and he knows how to play this game. So if you have the opportunity to remove that from your game, why would you not take it?
S40 ben t
Ben
I don't know how I found myself with all these winners. It's very humbling and just to be around all these greats. Boston Rob is phenomenal at what he does. It's just insane to see him work in real life, right? You watch him on TV, you're like, "Oh, my God, like, how is this guy doing it?" Then you're on the receiving end of Boston Rob's, like, magic and you're like, (babbling) "Yeah, yeah. Here's my information, like, there you go bud. You, you got it." I was starstruck and just told him everything. So I shouldn't have done that.
S40 rob t
Rob
I respect the fact that Danni told me the truth. Had she lied to me in the moment, I would know without a shadow of a doubt that I couldn't trust her. So at this point, it looks like there might be an old-school alliance coming together. Ethan, Parvati, Danni, myself, the old-school guys, we got a rapport with each other. And if we can get through this vote tomorrow, it would be mutually beneficial for us to work together, showing the new kids the ropes.

Day 2

In the morning, Sele is scrambling in preparation for Tribal Council. Adam and Denise are on the chopping block for going off alone together the previous day. Ben, wanting to keep Adam because he thinks that Adam's knowledge of Survivor can help him in the game, warns him about what is going on, infuriating Adam. Adam then talks to both Ben and Ethan about splitting up Jeremy and Natalie due to their previous relationship on San Juan del Sur. Meanwhile, Parvati and Rob are shocked that they are in power despite how dangerous they are.

S40 adam t
Adam
I did not sleep one wink last night. We're going to Tribal Council tonight. And one out of the ten of us is going to be the first person voted out of this game, and we're going to have to live alone on the Edge of Extinction.
S40 danni t
Danni
Playing with winners definitely makes everybody a little more paranoid. I also think it's just something about that first person being voted out of the game that you just don't wanna be that person.
S40 ethan t
Ethan
The pace of the game is warp speed. I am so unaccustomed to this. I have no clue what's going on... (laughs) I was hoping to have a little bit more time to get into the groove, but there's no time for that.
S40 natalie t
Natalie
My relationship with Jeremy started obviously at San Juan del Sur. I connected with him right away, and he was my number one until he got blindsided and then I played for Jeremy for the rest of my season. And so, it's not blood, but it's pretty close with Jeremy. When Adam and Denise disappeared together, that was strike one. But I don't need a second reason to try and say, "No, not them." Pick one, let's get it done.
S40 ben t
Ben
Names are being thrown out, nobody really wants to pin them down, but like, Denise is being thrown out, Adam is being thrown out. One, it's not me. Two, it's not me. Three, it's not me. Four, it's not me. But my gut is telling me to keep Adam safe because he knows the game and he might know how to maneuver through this. And so, I gotta-I gotta go with my gut.
S40 adam t
Adam
I went to look for the water well with Denise. Were we having a strategic conversation along the way? Of course. That shouldn't be, like, the end of the world. They should be way more worried about Natalie and Jeremy's existing relationship coming into this game, Rob and Amber's marriage, than me going off with Denise.
S40 rob t
Rob
When Adam and Denise ran off, initially, of course it put a target on their back, but Natalie and Jeremy are like this (shows fingers crossed). They're thick as thieves together. They've played together. And I realize that's ironic coming from me, because my wife is in this game with me, but the difference is, she's on a whole other island. You know, I'm in a unique position. I can basically choose which way I wanna go.
S40 parvati t
Parvati
Right now, we're voting out either Adam or Denise, but there's this other plan going on where it's going to be Natalie or Jeremy. We're literally about to go to Tribal Council. They still haven't chosen between Denise or Adam. Is it me? Am I missing something?
S40 parvati t
Parvati
Rob and I are like, "Are we being punked?" We're very obviously the two biggest threats in this game. What is going on? People are so terrified to say the name of somebody, but time's ticking, we gotta go to Tribal Council. So if you don't tell us who the vote is gonna be, then what's gonna happen at Tribal? It just doesn't seem to be a very fully baked plan. Saddle up kids, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

At Tribal Council, Adam argues that there are more dangerous relationships to be worried about, and that everyone twists other people's words, causing Jeremy to wonder if Parvati and Rob have something planned. When the votes are revealed, Natalie is the first person voted out of Survivor: Winners at War by a 7-2-1 vote, leaving Jeremy and Michele out of the loop. After leaving Tribal Council, she gives her Fire Token to Jeremy and heads to the Edge of Extinction.

S40 natalie t
Natalie
I don't think it's hit me yet that I just got voted off first. It's really weird. Holding my own torch, I've never picked up a torch at Tribal Council. You know, I've never got voted off, but after so much expectations for myself, I'm here on Edge of Extinction. I thought I would be crying, but I'm just mad.
S40 natalie t
Natalie
The tokens are cool. I don't know how I'm gonna get tokens. The sign says "Back in the game," and so, I might be in limbo for now, but there is still a chance for me.

Day 3

At Dakal, Sandra voices her frustration about Rob lying to her about not coming back to Sarah and Yul, and even talks about taking Amber out first as revenge, while Yul talks to Sandra and Sarah about rallying the one time and disconnected players against the "Poker Alliance". Yul then talks to Nick and Wendell about working with him and Sophie, since they are all fairly disconnected from the Survivor community. Wendell suggests getting Amber and Rob out as soon as possible.

S40 sandra t
Sandra
It's very rare for me to take something so personal, and-and to feel so hurt about it, but back on Island of the Idols, Boston Rob told me that he would never come out here.
S40 sandra t
Sandra
I said I didn't want to play with my emotions out here. I wanted to play a strategic game. But it's just that every time I see Amber, which is all day, I just think about it. So if the opportunity arises, Amber would be among the first to go, if I have anything to say about that.
S40 yul t
Yul
People are trying to recruit soldiers into their alliances. Sarah and Sandra, they're trying to align all the unconnected people, but as it turns out, that alliance, which is basically people who are one-time players and fairly disconnected from other winners, is actually the alliance that I've been organizing, and that is me, Nick, Wendell, and Sophie.
S40 yul t
Yul
The great thing is I don't think people even know that this alliance even exists. And with Sandra, as well as with Sarah, we'll have the numbers. And in fact, we'll control the game.

At Sele, Michele, upset about being left out of the vote and wanting to prove that she is a deserving winner, talks to Ben about Parvati and Rob being in control. The two decide to target an old-schooler next. Jeremy is upset about losing Natalie, but happy when he finds out that Natalie willed her Fire Token to him.

S40 michele t
Michele
Tribal probably couldn't have gone worse. It sucked that Natalie went home, but it sucked more that I was left out of the vote. I went into this, feeling, like, so much pressure, because I feel like I had something to prove. People were a bit surprised by my win when I was up against people who played bigger, flashier games than me. And now to not have the numbers is the worst possible case scenario.
S40 ben t
Ben
That old-school camp is just intimidating. They're good at what they do. So myself, Michele, Jeremy, and Adam, we need to figure out as new-schoolers, how to stop this leash leading, um, because we're like a bunch of goats. We can take control of this part of the game.
S40 jeremy t
Jeremy
It really sucks losing Nat. It's a punch in the gut. But this season, when someone gets voted out to go to Extinction Island, they can bequeath a Fire Token to anyone in the game. We all started off with one Fire Token. And this morning, you know, I see a Fire Token. So, now, boop! I got two Fire Tokens. Two is better than one. I have the most than-- out of anybody here. So I'm the richest on this island. Nobody knows how valuable they are, so it's good to have two of them. And let's just wait on it and see where this game starts going to see how important they are.

During her first day on the Edge of Extinction, Natalie receives an advantage and luxury item menu and is informed of finding ways to earn new Fire Tokens. Following a clue left by the mast, she discovers an idol that works for the next three Tribal Councils, which she can sell to anyone on the tribe that loses the next Immunity Challenge for one Fire Token.

S40 natalie t
Natalie
I had one token. I had to give it up before I get here, so I'm thinking about what's the key to me accumulating enough to either get an idol or get an advantage in the challenge? And that's when I saw the bottle.
S40 natalie t
Natalie
But it did make me excited that I might be able to get back into the game and have a shot at that 2 million dollars. That's still up on the table for me. I'm not good at riddles. And I think my physical strength is something that I've always rely on, but I'm kind of embracing testing my mental strength. I remember the sun rising in one spot, and so I thought if I get higher, I would see the sunset.
S40 natalie t
Natalie
At the top of the island, my quads are just burning. I mean, it said it on the plaque that you'd have to work hard for everything, but I'm not really sure how much harder it can get out here to get tokens. My first time around playing in Nicaragua, Nadiya, my twin sister, was the first voted off. That forced me to grind until I won that season. And so, I have to do the same thing here. I didn't come here to be on Edge of Extinction.
S40 natalie t
Natalie
On the plaque was instructions on how I could get my first token along with this little pouch. The pouch was an Immunity Idol. Even though I want to keep the idol, it has no value on this beach. And I have to pick a person from the losing tribe, and then they will have this opportunity to buy my Immunity Idol in exchange for their token. I'm the first person here, and I'm already affecting the game. That's totally different from the last Edge of Extinction. So although I don't get the excitement of having an idol and playing an idol, things I do here have a ripple effect on the game. It can end up changing the entire course of the season. Still in the game. Still playing from the other side. Amazing!

The tribes then gather for the next Immunity Challenge, Blue Lagoon Bustle. Dakal takes the lead when Sele struggles to get its members over the barrel roll. Rob takes it upon himself to help his tribe, launching members over the barrel roll. However, Dakal's struggle in the ring tossing part allows Sele to catch up. Jeremy's accurate tossing wins the challenge for Sele, sending Dakal to Tribal Council.

S40 rob t
Rob
Winning the challenge, it's a great moment, but in the back of my head, I'm worried about having my wife on the other tribe. Amber has a huge target on her because of me. I can't do anything to help her. So in this moment, this is possibly my wife's life in this game.

Back at Dakal's camp, several names are thrown out, including Amber, Nick, Sandra, Tony, and Tyson. Sandra decides to spread some lies. She tells Nick that Amber and Kim want him out for being shady and the most recent winner in the game. Sandra then goes off and reaches in her bag and finds an idol good for her next three Tribal Councils. She believes that the idol was sent to her by Natalie from the Edge of Extinction and does not hesitate to purchase it with her Fire Token. After finding out from Tyson that he wants Tony out, she tells Tony, who then campaigns for Tyson's elimination as a more pressing threat than Amber. Yul tells Tyson that everyone is worried about the "poker alliance". Realizing that he is in trouble, Tyson decides to abandon Amber and Kim to save himself. Kim starts to think that she is the target as nobody is talking to her and gets emotional. Yul tells Tony that Tyson will vote for Amber or Kim, but Tony does not believe that.

S40 amber t
Amber
Everybody is running around like a chicken with its head cut off. For the first Tribal is where things are revealed, of who's working with who. You know, I feel totally solid with Kim and Tyson, but otherwise, I feel a little bit lost. I'm not used to this style of play, but I better be diving in because I don't think it's changing.
S40 sophie t
Sophie
This season, every single person is a threat. So everybody is running around trying to make as many plans as possible, and the target is constantly shifting. Everybody is so out for blood, I think some of these people think it's a reward to get to go to Tribal, that they get to vote somebody out.
S40 sandra t
Sandra
So I'm just going to spread truth, lies and rumors. It works for me, and I can afford to do this, because when we got back to camp from the challenge, I reached in my bag, and I find this little baby... (unwraps idol) my first Immunity Idol on Winners at War.
S40 sandra t
Sandra
Now I'm starting to realize the extreme importance of Fire Tokens, and I'm making the deal. I want to think that Natalie might have sent it to me somehow from the Edge of Extinction. I'm not sure, but I'm so relieved that I have this. If I get a-a bad feeling on the pit of my stomach, I'm going to play this idol, because there's a lot of names thrown out there. Discussions are constantly being had, and everything is in flux.
S40 tony t
Tony
Tyson wants to vote me out. Oh, come on, man, really?! Alright, let's go! You know, they see me calm and cool and laid down and relaxed, but when I know it's game on, I go straight to ten.
S40 tony t
Tony
Tyson is very powerful and he's dangerous. Um, he's a very funny guy. Uh, people love him.
S40 tony t
Tony
We gotta break up the poker alliance-- Tyson, Amber, Kim, and I want to get Tyson out of the game. Amber is not running around doing anything, plus you leave the biggest targets, husband and wife, in the game still as big shields. So Tyson goes home.
S40 tyson t
Tyson
The poker alliance is coming back to bite me, and the second I realized that things weren't going the direction I wanted them to, my strategy switched from dictating the direction of the game to pure survival mode. I don't have anywhere to go but into their warm pokey poisonous embrace. And I feel bad for Kim and Amber, but it's worth it to me to forfeit this battle to hopefully win the war.
S40 kim t
Kim
All of a sudden, I'm getting a very bad vibe from everyone. I know that I am not someone that people want in their conversations right now. There's moments of paranoia where lots of people are talking and I walk up then it stopped. They want to do something and they don't want me to know about it. Gosh, just awkward. Nobody will talk. I've never been in this position before. You know, my-my season I was making the calls every single Tribal Council. I don't think I really understood until today what it feels like to be on the outs. This is not the way I envisioned my comeback. I think what's going on is I think Tyson and Amber and I are in trouble for the same reason, and I think in this case, the poker alliance has become what that is. One of the three of us are being voted out. That's just it. And I think there's really nothing I can do to change that. I feel like, you know, this is a large group of people voting together. To start this game the way I did, honestly, it's been the biggest mess.

At Tribal Council, Amber, Kim, and Tyson try to convince the tribe that there is no "poker alliance" in the game, with Amber and Kim trying to convince others to take out Nick for being the most recent winner. When the votes are revealed however, the majority split their votes between Amber and Kim. Amber is the second person voted out of Survivor: Winners at War by a 6-3-1 vote. After leaving Tribal Council, Amber gives her Fire Token to Rob. She then goes to the Edge of Extinction, where she meets Natalie.

S40 amber t
Amber
I knew coming into this game, that I had a huge target on my back. I just put my trust in people, hoping for the best, and it wasn't the best.

Challenges

Challenge: Marooning
Two members from each tribe would battle for a life ring. The tribe that gets one of their members to have a hand on the ring and one on their tribe's flagpole scores a point. The first tribe that scores three points wins.
Reward: Flint
Winner: Dakal
Additional Stipulation: The losing tribe will not get their rice supply until after Tribal Council.

Challenge: Blue Lagoon Bustle
Tribes must paddle out and retrieve a bag of numbers before making their way back to shore by crossing a series of obstacles. One member of each tribe must then use the numbers in the bag to solve a number combination to unlock three rings, which two members must then throw at three targets. The first tribe to hit all three of their targets wins.
