Gouge My Eyes Out is the penultimate episode of Survivor: Philippines.

Story

Day 34

Day 35

Day 36

With Malcolm winning immunity, the final four alliance decides to get rid of the last outsider Abi.

Challenges

Reward

Challenge: Sliders
Contestants must race over a slide into the ocean to retrieve five rings. Once they return, they must toss the rings onto five poles, one for each ring. The first person to do so wins the reward.
Reward: The winner (with two other contestants to accompany them) gets a boat ride in the Philippine ocean, pizza and soft drinks they could eat while in the ride, and an opportunity to swim with whale sharks.
Winner: Michael Skupin (shared with Lisa Whelchel and Malcolm Freberg)

Immunity

Challenge: One Track Mind
At the start, each contestant would use two planks to cross a rope bridge, where they will collect two puzzle pieces along the way. If a contestant falls, they must start again. After crossing the bridge they would climb down a ladder and assemble a ball puzzle. Then when the puzzle is completed, each castaway would pull out a pin, releasing a ball into the maze that was earlier assembled. Then the contestant would guide the ball through the maze, avoiding trap holes. The first contestant to guide their ball through the maze safely into the finish spot would win immunity.
Winner: Malcolm Freberg

Voting Confessionals

You're patronizing, judgmental, you're just not a good person. I really don't like you.

—Abi-Maria

Abi, if this vote doesn't go as planned, there is seriously something wrong in the universe.

—Denise

Final Words

Unfortunately, things didn't go my way. After the merge, I was targeted as the crazy Latina. Sometimes I come off really direct and straight to the point, but that's the type of person I am. I don't beat around the bush, I just say it as it is. Like it or hate me, and I guess it bit me in my big Brazilian ass.

Trivia

Behind the Scenes

Life at Ponderosa

Abi-Maria Gomes goes to Ponderosa, and is welcomed by all jurors but R.C. Saint-Amour, who still harbors ill feelings toward her after not letting her explain why the idol clue was in her bag back at Tandang. After finally hearing R.C.'s side of the story, Abi apologizes to her, but R.C. tells her not to talk to her. In her post-game medical, Abi lost 13.1 lbs, dropping her to 110.08 lbs. Over dinner, Abi catches up with her fellow jurors.

The next day, Abi asks R.C. if she will ever accept her apology and if she still hates her. R.C. states that she does not hate her, but "pity" her for the way she played, adding that Abi would be "utterly embarrassed" once the public watches the season.

Several of the jurors forecast that either the tribe lines between Tandang and Matsing will be honored, or either Malcolm Freberg or Denise Stapley gets voted out.

Other

  • This episode aired on 12/12/12, and prior to the episode, 12 people had been voted out at Tribal Council.
  • With this episode, this is the third season in a row where someone holds onto a Hidden Immunity Idol until the Final Five and never plays it at Tribal Council.
  • With Abi's elimination, this episode marks the first time since prior to Dana's elimination that Tandang was tied for most original tribe-mates remaining in the game.
  • This is the first season since Survivor: Tocantins where the number of players remaining at the end of the second-to-last episode is four.

Episode Title

  • This title is derived from one of Denise's confessionals where she says how excruciating it is to deal with Abi-Maria.
