Gimme Three Steps (also known as Franklins Tower, Born to Rung, and Stair Down the Walls) is a recurring challenge of Survivor.
Rules[]
The castaways must race through a course to a giant tower. They will then have to release two sets of stairs or ladder rungs to reach the top of the tower. At the top, the first castaway to finish the final task wins.
History[]
United States[]
The challenge debuted in Kaôh Rōng as the Final Immunity Challenge. The castaways had to race out into the ocean and retrieve a key to unlock a set of stairs at the bottom of the tower, to find a second key at the top of the stairs. They then headed back out used that key to unlock a ball attached to a rope which they used to drop a ladder to the second level of the tower. At the top of the ladder, they found a third key. They then headed out one last time and used that key to release a pole which they used to knock off a bag of puzzle pieces. At the top of the tower, they used the puzzle pieces to solve a three-tiered puzzle. Although Tai Trang was the first to get to the third tier of the puzzle, Michele Fitzgerald managed to solve it first to win the final immunity.
In Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, the castaways climbed a ladder and went down a cargo net. They then had to traverse a series of obstacles, where they then untied a bag containing sandbags. They then had to get one sandbag into a basket, which released the first ladder on the tower. On the second level, castaways then used a ball and rope to pull down a second ladder. At the top of the tower, the castaways had to solve a cog puzzle to hoist their flag. In a closely fought challenge, Chrissy Hofbeck finished her puzzle first to win immunity.
In Island of the Idols, the castaways retrieved rope rungs which they then used to create a rope ladder. On the second level of the tower, they had to maneuver a bag of balls on a ladder puzzle and climb up to the top level. Once at the top, they had to land two balls on a table maze. Dean Kowalski and Tommy Sheehan were neck and neck throughout the challenge, but Dean was able to edge out Tommy, Janet Carbin, and Lauren Beck in landing his final ball to win immunity.
The Island of the Idols variant of the challenge returned in Survivor 41 as an individual Reward/Immunity Challenge at the final five. The only difference was that the bag used to maneuver while climbing the ladder contained puzzle pieces. Erika Casupanan, who found an advantage prior to the challenge in which she started with four ropes attached to her ladder, managed to beat Ricard Foyé to win her second Immunity Challenge after solving the Survivor 41 puzzle and also shared her reward with Heather Aldret.
In Survivor 42, the challenge was used as the final six Immunity Challenge. Contestants first completed a set of hurdles, then raced to retrieve batches of puzzle pieces to complete the staircase puzzle from Step on Up. On the second level of the tower, they had to maneuver a bag of balls on a ladder puzzle and climb up to the top level. Once at the top, they had to land two balls on a table maze. Lindsay Dolashewich maintained a steady lead over her competitors and narrowly defeated Jonathan Young to win her second Immunity Challenge.
South Africa[]
The challenge was used at the final four of Immunity Island as a combined Reward/Immunity Challenge. At the top of the tower, the castaways had to complete a jigsaw puzzle depicting the season logo. Chappies Chapman won his record-matching fifth Immunity Challenge as well as the right to enjoy breakfast and a conversation with one of the jury members.
