Expedition Robinson 1999 is the third season of Expedition Robinson.

In the end, Jerker Dalman defeated Klas Granström in a narrow 5-4 jury vote to become the Sole Survivor. The season saw one medical evacuation and one ejection. Since airing, it has produced five returning players (Deniz Özen, Johnny Leinonen, Malou Vilselius-Rydin, Martin Suorra, and Robban Andersson) for subsequent seasons.

Production

This was the first season to be hosted by TV host and comedian Anders Lundin, who replaced Harald Treutiger.

The show received around 15,000 applications to compete in the season, of which seventeen were selected. Filming took place in Cadlao, Philippines, from June to August 1999, and the season aired later the same year.

Twists/Changes

• Tribe Composition: The castaways were divided into four tribes of four. Each tribe consisted of players of the same sex.
• Pre-Merge Voting Format: For the first two rounds of the season, two of the teams would win immunity and vote out a contestant on one of the two losing teams. After the team absorption, the contestants on the winning team voted out a contestant on the losing team.
• Tribe Absorption: On Day 7, the East Team was absorbed into the North Team, and the West Team was absorbed into the South Team.
• Re-entry Duel: On Day 10, a castaway was ejected from the game. In order to determine who would re-enter the game in their place, a duel was held between the two previously eliminated contestants.
• Merge: The merged tribe was initially comprised of ten members.
• Joker: On Day 27, a new castaway entered the game.
• Semi-Finals: At the final four, the castaways competed in a challenge in which the winner would advance directly to the Final Two and the last-place finisher would be eliminated. The remaining two castaways would compete in another challenge to determine the second finalist.
• Final Tribal Council Format: Two finalists faced a jury comprised of nine members.

Season Summary

The major twist this season was that the castaways were initially divided into four tribes based on their gender. Like in the previous season, when one or more tribes lost an Immunity Challenge, the winning tribe(s) voted out one of the members of the losing tribe(s). In addition, the joker twist was brought back for this season. The 'joker' this season was Douglas Svedberg. The dominant alliance this season was that of the West Team's Jerker Dalman, Jesus Pettersson, Klas Granström, and Robert Andersson. Klas, who was initially the third castaway voted out, was allowed to return after winning a challenge against Deniz Özen, following the ejection of Susanna Wahlberg. The alliance managed to remain intact until the final four, with Jerker winning over Klas in a 5-4 jury vote.
