While generally perceived as laid-back and non-threatening by the rest of his tribemates, Devon proved to be both a social and strategic threat throughout the game, orchestrating multiple blindsides, most notably those of JP Hilsabeck, Joe Mena and Mike Zahalsky, and forming tight bonds with Ashley Nolan, Ben Driebergen, and Ryan Ulrich. After reaching the merge, Devon joined the Solewa majority alliance that dominated the early post-merge phase of the game. After Lauren Rimmer recruited him into the secretive Final Four Alliance, Devon emerged as a tactical mind within the group, convincing Ben to play double agent and tricking Joe and Mike into voting against Ryan and believing that Ben was the target which resulted in the former's elimination, and managed to avoid receiving any votes against him up until the final five. There, he once again proved his aptitude by casting a stray vote against Mike that saved him from elimination. Following the Final Immunity Challenge, however, Devon found himself forced into a fire-making challenge against Ben due to a new twist, which he ultimately lost, causing him to fall one day short of the Final Tribal Council.

Devon started on Yawa. On Day 2, Ryan Ulrich formed an alliance with him and told him about the super idol. Yawa lost immunity on Day 6. At Tribal Council, he joined the majority in voting out Simone Nguyen. When Yawa lost again, Devon told Ryan he would much rather vote out Patrick Bolton over Lauren Rimmer. At Tribal Council, he contributed to Patrick's elimination.
When the Tribe Switch occurred, he was switched to Levu. He was the only original Yawa on Levu, and he found himself on a swing vote position. Joe Mena lied to him about Ashley Nolan targeting him, but Devon saw through his lie. Levu lost immunity on Day 11 and he asked Ashley if she was targeting him which she denied. Before Tribal Council, he found an advantage in his bag, which was given to him by Jessica Johnston. Before voting occurred, Devon revealed his advantage and was shocked to learn his vote had been blocked. Joe ended up using his Hidden Immunity Idol to blindside Alan Ball. The next day Devon and Ashley confirmed their loyalty to each other, and talked about convincing Joe's ally Desi Williams to side with them. On Day 15, Devon tried to keep an eye on Joe to make sure he wouldn't scheme, but when he turned his back, Joe found a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol.
Devon reached the merge, where reunited with Ryan and joined The Round Table alliance. When Ryan found a Hidden Immunity Idol he told Devon and Ben Driebergen, but when Ben told Devon, he became concerned. On Day 25, his ally Lauren Rimmer won the Reward Challenge and share it with him, Ashley, and Ben. On the trip, Lauren proposed a final four deal, and to target their alliance members Ryan, Chrissy Hofbeck, and JP Hilsabeck which they agreed. Devon exposed Ryan's idol and they all received letters from their loved ones.
Ashley won immunity. At camp, the final four alliance planned to revolt, and Devon told Ben to play double agent, voting against Mike. At Tribal Council JP was blindsided. After Tribal Council, Ryan tried to make amends with Devon, but he was unable to do so. Chrissy won immunity. At camp, Devon told Mike Zahalsky and Joe that they would use it to split the votes between Ryan and Ben to get Ryan to play his idol, when in reality, the alliance would stick together to blindside Joe. In private, Ashley told Devon she was having second thoughts about staying loyal to Ben. At Tribal Council, Devon stayed with Ben, voting out Joe.
The next day, Devon met his mother Sonia at the loved ones. Chrissy won the Loved Ones Challenge, and share it with Ryan, Mike, and Ashley. At the Immunity Challenge, Devon conceded immunity to Ashley for a massage, stating that they were a tight alliance. Ashley continued to talk to Devon and Lauren about blindsiding Ben, but Ben overheard the conversation. During Tribal Council, Devon walked over to Mike and instructed him to vote out Ben. Devon along with everybody else unanimously voted for Ben, but Ben used his idol to blindside Lauren, blindsiding her with a sole vote.
The next day, Devon and Chrissy won the next Reward Challenge, and chose to share it with Ryan.On the trip, the three made a Final Three deal. Chrissy won immunity. Chrissy began campaigning for Ashley's elimination, but Mike desperately wanted Ben out, while Devon was reluctant to turn against Ashley. During Tribal Council, Devon continued campaigning against Ben, who subsequently revealed he did find the idol, but Devon did not believe he would play it. However, Ben played it before the votes were cast, forcing the five to turn on each other. Devon then contributed to Ashley's unanimous elimination and when Devon tried to hug Ashley as she was departing Tribal Council, she brushed him off for his betrayal.
On Day 37, Chrissy won immunity and chose to share the reward with Devon and Ryan. On the trip, Chrissy told Mike and Devon about her super idol from the first Tribal Council, and she planned to trick Ben into thinking she found a new idol so that he wouldn't search for one himself, though the were unaware Ben had the real idol. Ben let them think he believed them. Devon felt uneasy about Ben's nonchalant attitude about getting voted out at the next Tribal Council, and he told Ryan he was considering voting against Mike, but Ryan tried to talk him out of it. At Tribal Council, he voted for Mike, Ben played his idol negating the three votes against in resulting in a 1-1 tie between Devon and Mike. In the revote, Mike was voted out 2-1, though Devon received a vote from Ben.
Chrissy won the Final Immunity Challenge. She told Devon and Ryan that since she won, she had to choose one of the remaining three to save, which would force the remaining two to compete in the fire making challenge, told Ryan and Devon she would save Ryan, and told Devon to practice for the fire making challenge. Devon broke the flint while practicing his fire making skills. At Tribal Council, Chrissy revealed her advantage to the jury and Ben. She voted to take Ryan to the end, and despite Chrissy and Ryan rooting for Devon, Ben won the ensuing fire-making challenge, making Devon the final member of the jury. Chrissy, Ryan, and Devon have all confirmed Ben would have been the unanimous final boot, but for the new fire making twist.
At the Final Tribal Council, Ryan pointed out to the jury that a lot of his social game came from Devon, which Devon confirmed. When he went to the voting booth, he voted for Ryan, and said that while he did not believe he could pull it off coming into Tribal Council, he has always rooted for the underdog. He was Ryan's only vote. Ryan lost to Ben and Chrissy in a 5-2-1 vote.
