Day Zero is a mechanic that debuted in Survivor: Blood vs. Water, and was used again in Survivor: San Juan del Sur.
Concept[]
Prior to the game officially starting, the pairs of contestants will be left overnight at individual locations around the island leading them to believe that they will be working and competing together as a duo.
When Jeff Probst meets the castaways officially on Day 1, the couples will be divided into their pre-determined tribes.
Trivia[]
- With Day Zero, the game lasts 39 days and 12 hours, making seasons featuring it second-longest seasons after Survivor: The Australian Outback which ran for 42 days.
- Publicity photos and confessionals were conducted with the pairs together, also reinforcing the idea that they would play together.
- Day Zero has only been used in seasons to feature the Blood vs. Water twist.
