Cling Ons is a recurring endurance challenge that debuted in La Isla 2012: El Reality, and has since appeared in three international franchises.
Rules[]
The castaways must keep upright on a vertical board while balancing on pegs. Periodically, they must find a numbered peg to remove from the board, making it harder to keep their balance. The last person or team still on the board wins.
History[]
Australia[]
The challenge debuted in Australian Survivor (2017) as the final four Reward Challenge; at stake was the right to remove a member of the jury. Jericho Malabonga won the challenge.
An intensified version of the challenge appeared as the Final Immunity Challenge of Titans v Rebels. The final three each stood on footholds along a rotating wheel. At regular intervals, the wheel would turn, forcing them to step on narrower footholds and continue in a more uncomfortable position. Shortly after the 2-hour mark, Mark Warnock became the first person to drop out. With one final rotation of the wheels, Caroline Courtis and Feras Basal were left balancing on a single foothold. Finally, after two and a half hours, Caroline could no longer hold on, dropping out to give Feras his first immunity win.
France[]
Mexico (Unofficial)[]
In La Isla 2012, the challenge was only ran by three people, each representing their tribe. Whoever came last in the challenge would be responsible for the dissolution of their tribe. In addition, the first place would go to High Beach, while the second place would head to Low Beach. Lourdes, Ricardo, and Yanilen were the chosen captains for their respective tribes. All three castaways removed every peg but two, and it was Yanilen who fell off first. She was shortly followed by Ricardo, meaning Lourdes won the challenge for her tribe.
South Africa[]
In Champions, the challenge was used at the final seven as an individual Immunity Challenge. At regular intervals, the pegs would be retracted into each contestant's wall. Additionally, Nico Panagio tempted the contestants down with ice-cream. Shane Hattingh was the first person to bail for ice-cream, and Zavion Kotze and Graham Jenneker eventually gave in the next time it was offered. In the end, the final three of Altaaf Sheik, David de Wet, and Sivu Xabanisa were left hanging on by only a single peg. David fell and Altaaf slipped, allowing Sivu to win his first Immunity Necklace.
United Kingdom[]
This challenge, renamed Hold On, appeared as a reward challenge for pizza to share with two other contestants. The challenge was won by Christopher Haul and Matthew Haywood, and they shared pizza with Pegleg Bennett.
