Have you ever noticed that in previews Survivor producers always play the same clips of "dumb mistakes" made in past Survivor seasons? Erik giving up immunity, James and his idols, Sierra and the Legacy Advantage, and Jay playing a fake idol.
Are those seriously the only "dumb moves" they think have ever happened? What about Sean's alphabet strategy? What about Brandon giving up immunity and losing to Ozzy at redemption island? What about JT giving away his idol? What about Woo choosing Tony over Kass? It's clear they're not looking at actual dumb moves made in Survivor and are just looking at those that involved an idol. Barely two episodes in and I'm already seeing obvious flaws. Can't wait for every trailer to be the exact same thing.
"Survivor is a great social game, where mistakes are made. *Plays the same three clips over and over again* But the contestants are not ready for what's coming next. *Random interview that spoils pretty much everything you need to know* Survivor Ghost Island coming Wednesday."
Screw you Survivor.
THANK YOU!! WE HAVE THE EXACT WAVELENGTH!
Yeah, Ghost Island is just their way of condoning advantage-geddon even more (and make Zeke annoyingly extra again). These past three seasons have been underwhelming mostly because of Probst-duction's constant interference to the game.
Side thought: Whoever bought the Ghost Island relics then were so cuckolded by production buying them back. Dicks.
The reason JT's idol from Heroes vs. Villains isn't back is because JT's idol from Game Changers took its place for relevancy purposes, since while most of the casual viewing audience (aka the majority of the viewing audience, aka the ratings) will remember Game Changers, since it was only a season ago, only a select few will remember Heroes vs, Villains and what went on there.
In the case of why they chose Erik over Brandon, even though South Pacific was more recent than Micronesia, both seasons are very old at this point, so they could have gone for either or. Since Erik's occurred first, and is arguably the more iconic of the two, they ended up going for that one. Also, the fact that Brandon was essentially ejected from the game and banned from the reunion show for Caramoan probably factored into the decision.
Yes, I know that it's basically contradicting what I said with JT's HvV idol, but Ghost Island clearly has a large Game Changers presence (with Sierra's legacy advantage, for example), which could also be why they chose his GC idol. It's maybe the same case with Micronesia vs. South Pacific, because while the former already has a large foothold in Ghost Island with the Fucking Stick ™, South Pacific is basically unrepresented, so it would seem incredibly out of place.
As for why they didn't factor in Woo's million dollar mistake, and Sean's alphabet strategy, well, what they be able to do for those?
Like, what would they do for the alphabet strategy? Force a contestant to vote alphabetically? That would be stupid. And how could Woo's million dollar mistake come into play? Imagine winning the final immunity challenge, and being told that you have to take the person who can beat you to the end, rather than the super goat you've been dragging along.
The thing behind Ghost Island that these are advantages that were played incorrectly. The two mistakes that I just mentioned are not advantages. If you reallllllllllllly want to stretch it, you could say that the producers could turn them into extra votes or something, but even then, they'd have a stupid side effect like the aforementioned "you have to vote alphabetically."
As for every other advantage not on Ghost Island, keep in mind, there's only SO MUCH they can add in before it gets ridiculous (which many are already saying it is).
A lot of the criticisms with Ghost Island, as both a twist and a season, seem to come from the hate bias of the last two or three seasons. As of now, only one twist has come from Ghost Island (the legacy advantage), and there's only been four episodes, three of which were fantastic in my opinion. I also think that the fact that the person going to Ghost Island will occasionally skip Tribal Council too, has already shook up the game a lot, while not being unfair to the other contestants like similar twists have been.
And, as for production taking back the relics, they bought them back, they didn't steal them. The people who owned them originally not only willingly parted with them, but they're probably ecstatic that something they actually owned is on Ghost Island as a twist again. And for all we know, they might just get them back after the season wraps up. So, I don't think that makes the entire production crew "dicks". But whatever, it's just one man's opinion.
