Ashley Underwood is a contestant from Survivor: Redemption Island.

A member of the commanding Stealth R Us alliance, Ashley was taken far into the game despite disagreements with its members, especially Phillip Sheppard. However, her physical ability in challenges posed a threat for Rob Mariano at the Final Tribal Council, and she was blindsided one day short of Day 39.

Survivor[]

Within the first 3 days, Ashley found herself as a member of the successful Stealth R Us alliance consisting of herself, Andrea Boehlke, Grant Mattos, Matt Elrod, Natalie Tenerelli, and returning player Rob Mariano (Phillip Sheppard would join later on in the game). The alliance dominated the pre-merge stage of the game, voting out Francesca Hogi and Kristina Kell, with their only loss being Matt, due to his growing relationship with Andrea and his act of shaking hands with the Zapatera members after their victory at the second Immunity Challenge. Ashley also had a very strained relationship with Phillip, who she found annoying, but despite this, the two still worked together in the game. Over time, her relationship with Natalie began to grow, much to the concern of her ally Rob.

Ashley also proved to be a challenge threat, as she managed to throw Rob's plans to get rid of her into a tailspin after she won two consecutive individual Immunity Challenges at the final five stage of the game. She also became a key strategic threat near the end. At the first final five stage, she pushed for Rob to vote out his closest ally and best friend Grant, arguing to him that none of the five left could win over him in a jury decision and that it would improve all of their chances at the final immunities. While Ashley was still originally going home, her immunity win, and arguments to Rob and the others previously to get rid of Grant, convinced him to eliminate Grant instead of Natalie or Phillip. She believed having gotten rid of Grant improved her own chances both of making the final, and of winning if she got there as she felt she could beat Natalie, Phillip, or Rob in a jury vote. Her win at the second final five stage of the game also saved her, and allowed her alliance to vote back out the final Redemption Island returnee Andrea, the choice Ashley elected for due to knowing Rob would be playing his Hidden Immunity Idol this tribal as his last chance to play it. However knowing that with only goats Phillip and Natalie left in the mix, she and Rob were likely the main targets for the final vote, Ashley lost the critical Final Immunity Challenge to Rob by a relatively small margin, putting Ashley in a precarious position. Expecting Phillip to get the boot at Tribal Council, Ashley was blindsided and betrayed by her closest allies, Natalie and Rob, in a 3-1 vote, with the former being reluctant to vote out her friend. She was particularly upset with Natalie, whom she had asked if anything was up right before Tribal Council, which Natalie denied.

At the Final Tribal Council, all of the finalists were lambasted by a very bitter Ashley and she questioned Natalie about her betrayal and why she had not at least told her beforehand she was going home that night. She told Rob she had thought previously she would be anxious to get to know the real Rob outside the game, but now was not sure if she even wanted to learn about the real Rob outside the game, as he had been duplicitous and betrayed so many people while in the game. She told Phillip she did not even want to hear his voice, as she had been through enough putting up with it for a whole 38 days. In the end, she voted Rob to win the title of Sole Survivor of Survivor: Redemption Island, stating she felt he was the only strong game among the 3 finalists.

Post-Survivor[]

Ashley is married to UMAINE basketball star Chris Markwood.
On December 27, 2014, Ashley announced that she was pregnant with their first child.^[2]
- They welcomed their daughter, London Grace Markwood, born on July 2, 2015.^[3]

Trivia[]

Ashley originally applied for The Amazing Race, but was not chosen and was later contacted to compete on Survivor. Her intended partner was fellow beauty queen Stephanie Murray Smith, who ultimately competed on The Amazing Race 17 with her boyfriend, Chad Waltrip.^[4]
Ashley was the only woman to win more than one individual Immunity Challenge on Redemption Island.
Ashley was the only person voted out on her season to not be sent to Redemption Island.
Ashley lost 20 lbs. during her time on Redemption Island.^[5]
