Anything Could Happen is the season finale of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.

Story[]

Night 36[]

The Yin Yang tribe returns to camp, and Parvati Shallow tries to get Russell Hantz to admit that Sandra Diaz-Twine made a good play at the previous Tribal Council with her Hidden Immunity Idol. Russell tells Sandra that it was a bad play and argues with Sandra about the idol.

S20 sandra t
Sandra
I played my idol at Tribal Council, and once we came back to camp, Russell was upset, mad about how we're supposed to share the idol and everyone should know, and I'm looking like when you found your first idol, you used the idol to save Parvati, we didn't know. When you got an idol from J.T., I didn't know, so how come the minute Sandra gets an idol, I gotta go tell Russell? He wants to micromanage the whole tribe and unfortunately I'm not the person you can micromanage. Sorry.

Russell then accuses Parvati of knowing about Sandra's idol beforehand and lying to him. Parvati insists she didn't know about it. Russell doesn't believe her and storms off.

S20 parvati t
Parvati
I just don't like being accused of being a liar when I clearly was not. I could care less if Russell is running around stomping his feet like a little two-year-old child who got his toy taken away because it's pretty much what he's acting like, and it makes him look like a fool.

Russell talks with Jerri Manthey and Colby Donaldson and tells them that Parvati is lying out of her teeth and needs to be the next to go. After Russell leaves, Jerri tells Colby she has wanted Parvati out since the beginning of the game because she is such a threat. Colby rejoices that the Villains are all fighting with each other once again.

S20 colby t
Colby
I'm the last Hero, and once again the Villains go at it, and any time this dysfunctional family of Villains is not getting along, it takes the attention off me.

Day 37[]

The following day, Parvati reads Tree Mail revealing the next Immunity Challenge to be a challenge about stacking dishes, which she recognizes from Survivor: China. Russell plans to vote out Colby if he doesn't win immunity, but if he does, Russell plans on voting out Parvati and take Jerri and Sandra to the finals with him.

The tribe goes to compete at the challenge, and it comes down to Parvati and Colby, each with seventeen dishes stacked up. Colby's stack falls, and Parvati wins individual immunity over a visibly upset Colby.

S20 jerri t
Jerri
Once again, Parvati escapes her elimination vote. I mean, it's unbelievable how this game works sometimes. It's not like it's the end of the world, we still have one more person that we can get rid of, that being Colby. But you know, it's Survivor, and anything can happen.
S20 parvati t
Parvati
Winning today is a huge deal for me because I'm safe, and I can keep the rest of my Villains here. If Colby had won the challenge, it would have been insanity here today, and I would have had to make a decision I didn't want to make right now.

When the tribe returns to camp, Colby announces to the tribe that he made a play at the previous vote to break up the Villains that failed, and then tried to win immunity and didn't succeed, so now he is surrendering to the will of the Villains, and he receives a hug from everybody. In reality however, Colby's surrender speech is his last chance strategic play.

S20 colby t
Colby
I needed to win today's Immunity Challenge, and I didn't. I really needed that one. So we came back into camp, I gathered all the Villains, and I gave them my surrender speech. Pretty good speech actually. Hell, I almost convinced myself I was giving up, but I don't know how to quit, it's just not in me, I've never quit anything in my life... So when the time was right, made one more attempt.

Colby goes and talks with Russell around the campfire about the possibility of voting for Sandra so that the three other people; Russell, Jerri, and himself, have a better chance of beating Parvati in the final challenge. Colby tells Russell that Parvati will get all the jury votes.

S20 russell t
Russell
Tonight's Tribal Council is going to be very interesting, because you think about it, it might be the best strategic move to keep Colby and to get rid of Sandra. You know I don't trust Sandra as far as I can throw her. We keep Colby, it helps us beat Parvati. The problem with keeping Colby is he could possibly get to the top three and that's it, my game's over. I don't know what to do this time, I gotta think what's the best option for me and only me. I'm going to wait for Tribal Council, see what they got to say and make my decision right there.

At Tribal Council, Colby talks about his performance in the season compared to his other ones. Colby tells everyone this game has been the toughest on him and his journey to this point has also been the most difficult, being disappointed with his lackluster challenge performance. The tribe talks about trust, and everyone agrees you cannot fully trust anybody in the game. At the vote, Russell and Jerri decide to stick with the Villains and Colby is voted out 4-1, making him the last Hero to be eliminated from the game. Before Colby departs, he receives a hug from Jerri.

When the Villains return to camp, they talk about seeing Rupert Boneham on the jury looking as though he were a crazy person. Sandra says she has no regrets voting out Rupert and Colby because both wrote her name down, and Colby twice. Parvati worries about what Colby said during Tribal Council about her.

S20 parvati t
Parvati
Tonight at Tribal, when Colby said that it would've been easier to get rid of me, it was kind of an eye-opener for me. I didn't realize that I was such a huge threat with the jury, so now I feel like I really have to try extra hard to win this immunity to make sure that I'm sitting there in the final three.

Day 38[]

Russell and Jerri talk about how they need to win immunity to prevent Parvati from winning. Russell tells Jerri that if Parvati is able to win immunity, that she will win the game at the Final Tribal Council.

S20 jerri t
Jerri
I need to beat Parvati, she has really proven to me she is a really tough competitor.
S20 russell t
Russell
It's a fairly tough decision now because my main alliance is Parvati, and I'm leaning toward sending Parvati home.

Parvati returns to camp with Tree Mail, saying they will go through the Rites of Passage, recognizing their fallen comrades in the game before going to the Final Immunity Challenge. During the Rites of Passage, the previously eliminated castaways reminisce on their time in the game.

S20 sugar bw
Sugar
Well, I definitely have more faith in myself this trip than the last time I played Survivor. That's the hardest thing about this game: you can't play with your heart all the time; you have to play with your head. You can't win this game playing good all the time, you just can't. I proved that.
S20 stephenie bw
Stephenie
I did get hurt on the first day, but it's part of the game, I can't live with it. I definitely think people were gunning for me because I had a reputation for being such a strong competitor. My reputation was probably one of the hardest things for me to overcome.
S20 randy bw
Randy
My lack of ability to communicate with twenty-six-year-old girls is what got me booted, ultimately, and I'm not ashamed of that. What phases me is having people clearly stupider than me controlling my fate and there's nothing I can do about it.
S20 cirie bw
Cirie
I attempted to play different this time, but I feel like I never got the chance. I feel like people came in with you know, 'We gotta get her; she's a schemer,' just straight out. You don't even know if that's the game I was gonna play this time, so never judge a book by its cover.
S20 tom bw
Tom
The fact that you can be the winner and dominate one season and be the cast-aside who gets dropped for a guy who's jumping around on one foot in your next season, I think, is what makes the game special and what made it worth playing.
S20 tyson bw
Tyson
When you play with these all-stars, everybody is just out for blood immediately. I was in control until I made a stupid move. I was basically the victim of my own stupidity. America thinks I'm an idiot, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm still the winner.
S20 james bw
James
This time, I actually tried to be a little more conversational with people; I talked more, I was more friendly, I guess. There was this injury, and it's something I had to deal with. I had a great time, but an injury got me in again.
S20 rob bw
Rob
When I first played this game, I was twenty-five years old; I'm thirty-three now, and I can still hang in with the young guys, I can still do it. But you know, one time, I passed out, but I came through alright. The new generation of players is smarter now; I got to applaud them for getting rid of me. It was the first time they've done in twenty seasons; they're starting to learn.
S20 coach bw
Coach
I know among all of the Survivors that people have hated to hate, loved to hate, and hated to love, I was — and am — number one on the hit list, and I'm proud of that fact. Inspiring other people but at the same time making myself a better man, and through all of that myriad of experiences, I found redemption.
S20 courtney bw
Courtney
Usually on a regular season, you get a bunch of duds; this time, there were just no pawns here. It was— Everyone was a master of the chessboard, and they all were playing a different game, so I sum up the experiences I'm really glad I came and did it. I did the best I could and, you know, getting on the jury in an all-stars — that's not that easy.
S20 jt bw
J.T.
I feel like I did really well; I just, you know, I made a big move early in the game: I gave my idol to the biggest villain in the game, Russell, and he used it to vote me out. It was beautiful, so I have to say my experience this time was much more humbling.
S20 amanda bw
Amanda
Overall, I'm proud of how I played. I think my biggest mistake in this game was giving Danielle back the clue. I should have kept it. It was my lifeline, but my conscience got the best of me. I am just not destined to win this game.
S20 candice bw
Candice
Making it to the thirteenth person voted out this time, I think, is a much more serious accomplishment than it was last time because I beat people that were harder to beat this time. I'll definitely take a few lessons home.
S20 danielle bw
Danielle
This was the most intense thing I've ever had to go through in my life, and I have no regrets. I was proud of the way I performed in my challenges, and I think I showed that, you know, that I have a heart, and I am a good person, and I'm not a villain.
S20 rupert bw
Rupert
To have my torch put out instead of making it to Day 39 and being able to sit in the Final Tribal Council felt very bad, but I feel very, very good about the way I played the game and the way I showed that label of Hero: I deserved it.
S20 colby bw
Colby
I'm almost ten years older than I was the first time I played this game — not as fast, not as strong. Yeah, I'm disappointed; I'm frustrated with the fact I'm out of the game and the game is still going, but I'm proud of the way I played: I outlasted all the other Heroes.

After completing the Rites of Passage, the final four go to compete in the Final Immunity Challenge. The challenge is a close three-way competition between Jerri, Russell, and Parvati. Ultimately, Russell exits the maze and takes the individual Immunity Necklace just a second before Jerri and right ahead of Parvati.

The final four return to camp and talk about the challenge. Jerri hopes to go though with her plan with Russell and blindside Parvati so she can go to the final three.

S20 jerri t
Jerri
So basically, the fact that Russell won immunity means that Parvati is going home. If I watch her torch get snuffed and her walk off, I'm not going to cry about it, I'm going to be very happy about it.

Russell takes a walk with Sandra and tells her that she's sitting in a very good spot. Sandra is confused by what Russell means and tells him that she is in the same spot as Parvati, but Russell tells her that she's going to be in his final three plan no matter what, he tells Sandra that he is being honest with her because he thinks he can beat her for the million. Sandra, knowing that Russell has angered most of the jury, pretends to agree that Russell can beat her and says she's fine with earning the runner-up prize money of $100,000.

S20 russell t
Russell
No matter what in any circumstances, I'm keeping Sandra. She might get Courtney's vote and that's it. So imma use Sandra to win me a million dollars. She can't beat me!
S20 sandra t
Sandra
Russell won immunity, so essentially I have to do whatever Russell says because he won the idol. I'm feeling wonderful because, regardless, Russell's keeping me around because I'm not getting a single vote. But I don't know about that!

Jerri, Russell, and Sandra talk around the shelter and Jerri asks them if they are still solid together to vote out Parvati. Russell confirms his allegiance to the final three of himself, Sandra, and Jerri. Later, when Parvati comes back into camp from gathering coconuts, she takes Russell and they go on a walk down the beach. Russell tells Parvati he wants Sandra in the final three and to eliminate Jerri. Parvati tries to tell Russell to reconsider his decision, telling him that Sandra would instantly get Amanda Kimmel, Candice Woodcock, and Courtney Yates' votes for the million. Russell disagrees with Parvati and insists that they send Jerri to the jury, partly because he feels like she will vote for him.

S20 russell t
Russell
Parvati wants me to get rid of Sandra because she can't even beat Sandra. She surely can't beat me, so she's trying to find out a way to possibly get second. It's a scenario that's been in my head over and over all kind of different ways.

Walking together in the jungle, Russell tells Parvati his best strategic move would be to get rid of her and bring Jerri and Sandra to the finals. Parvati again tells Russell that Sandra would win.

S20 russell t
Russell
Right now, I'm on the fence because if I send Jerri home, I'll get her vote. If I send Parvati home, I don't know if I will get her vote, but I might. Tonight's Tribal Council is extremely a hard decision. I've suffered way too much in this game not to win it. I have to win this thing.

The final four arrive at Tribal Council. Jerri and Sandra talk about what they did when they came back from the Immunity Challenge. Sandra mentions that Russell told her that she cannot win. Jerri and Parvati make pitches to Russell for them to stay in the game. The final four go to vote, and Russell decides to vote out Jerri, sending her to the jury as its ninth and final member.

Day 39[]

Returning from Tribal Council, the final three celebrate having made it all the way to the end of the game. Sandra worries about her kids back home and her husband out in Afghanistan. The final three get their feast in Tree Mail and enjoy it back at camp.

S20 russell t
Russell
Day 39, you know, I said I would do it, and here I am. I've done it again. Sometimes, it makes me want to tear up, it really does because you can say you can do it, but it's a lot harder than you think and I've done it twice, Day 39. Tonight, I believe I have a good shot of winning this. Last season, I brought two people 'cause I thought I could beat 'em 'cause they were the weak players. And I didn't. I'm bringing people that other people don't like. Parvati has a lot of enemies; Sandra, she didn't do nothing. At the end of the day, she's here because she's easy to beat.

Laying down together on the ground after eating their feast, Russell asks Parvati if he had sent her to the jury who she would have voted for. Parvati says she would have voted for Sandra, just like she said she would the previous day. Russell tells her that he would have voted for her and asks her again who she would have voted for. Parvati tells Russell that she still would have voted for Sandra, and this causes Russell to get upset with Parvati. Russell tells Parvati that her game was just like his, but that his was just a little stronger. Parvati responds and tells Russell her game was nothing like Russell's. Russell tells her that he will be laying it all out at the Final Tribal Council, and Parvati tells him to go ahead.

S20 parvati t
Parvati
I have played the game of Survivor for a hundred and fourteen days. I don't know if that makes me crazy, probably, but I think it also makes me one of the best players of Survivor ever. I'm definitely a little mischievous, a little devious, I like to get into trouble, so I definitely have embraced my villain side this time around and you know what, I have put my heart and soul into this game and I'm here to win, so that's what I want.

Russell gets up and leaves, and Parvati and Sandra laugh to each other about what will happen at Final Tribal Council. Sandra says Russell is going to get destroyed at the Final Tribal Council, and the two of them laugh some more. Sandra then suggests she go over and burn Russell's hat so he could take his "bald-headed ass" to the Tribal Council. After Parvati promises not to tell Russell, Sandra gets up and takes Russell's hat and tosses it into the fire with Parvati bursting into laughter as Sandra declares that burning his hat was a form of retaliation against Russell for his callousness and misconduct, as well as his refusal to bathe, which resulted in his poor odor. She then goes back to lay down, joking about burning his sneakers as well.

S20 sandra t
Sandra
Russell is obnoxious. So I took his hat, and I threw it in the fire. I don't care. He can take his bald headed tail to Tribal Council, it'll be alright, he can wear his buff on his head. He has a big bald patch right here he don't want nobody to know about, but we've been here for thirty-nine days so I've seen it a whole ton of times. Screw it, that's payback for everything he's done to be in the game, I don't care.

Russell returns to camp and asks the two girls where his hat went, but they lie and say they didn't know where his hat was. Russell searches around camp unable to find it, and he angrily declares he won't be leaving without it. However, unable to find it and with the Final Tribal Council approaching, he decides to give up the search and the final three ceremoniously burn down the shelter.

S20 sandra t
Sandra
I don't think it's about the money tonight, I think it's about the title of Sole Survivor, that's all Russell wants. And if that's what Russell wants, that's what I have to be sure that's what Russell doesn't get. There's not a day that didn't go by that I was trying to focus on what's the best way for me to get rid of Russell. And the worst thing of all is that those Heroes, each and every one of them are responsible for their own self-destruction. When I was out here, I had to hustle, I had to make sure all my stuff was in order so that when I went to Tribal Council, I made it out in one piece. I didn't hide behind no Immunity Necklace; I never had safety; I had to take care of myself and, yet, here I sit final three. I think I deserve it; I want the title of Sole Survivor.

The final three arrive at the Tribal Council to plead their case as to why they deserve the million dollars and the title of Sole Survivor. The jury consisting of Coach Wade, Courtney, J.T. Thomas, Amanda, Candice, Danielle DiLorenzo, Rupert, Colby, and Jerri enter Tribal Council and opening statements begin.

Sandra gives her opening statement first. She says she was sole surviving ever since her alliance on the Villains side was taken out. She tried three separate times to get the Heroes to get rid of Russell, and that she played the game in a way to guarantee that when she came into Tribal Council with her torch lit, that it was still lit when they left.

Russell gives his opening statement next. Russell says that luck played no part at all in his game and that he played the game very hard. He questions why that whenever he comes into Tribal Council, the jury looks at him as though he did something wrong, saying that all he did was play hard and that he didn't mean to offend anybody.

Parvati is last to give her opening statement. Parvati says that she started the game with a large target on her back, and that she needed to get a line of defense to keep herself in the game, telling the jury that Russell was her 'dragon' that she kept as a pet instead of slaying him. Parvati tells the jury she feels like she played the ultimate social, strategic, and physical game.

Questioning from the jury begins with Colby. Colby questions Russell's statement saying that he got to the final three with no luck involved. Colby calls Russell delusional for believing he could get to the end with no luck. Colby asks Parvati how she was more strategic than the other two.

Coach is next up, and he calls Parvati a charmer and manipulator, Russell a schemer and liar, and Sandra a coattail rider. Coach calls Russell a little man in both stature and character, telling him that if he had been humbled coming into Final Tribal Council, telling the jury that he crossed the line, that he might be one of the strongest in the game. Coach tells Sandra he wanted to play with strength in the game and that she was not strong in challenges and he wishes to have been there in her stead. Coach then turns to Parvati and tells her that he was impressed by Parvati, expecting her to be weak in challenges, but she surprised him by being very strong. Coach says the day he first trusted Parvati was the day she voted him out. He says that he came into Tribal Council with an open mind and that he will be seriously listening to the final three's responses.

Amanda is the next up, and she asks Sandra how her strategy was better than the other two. Sandra says she wished her strategy was better, saying it would have been better if Russell was out of the game had her planned worked. Sandra voices her frustration because the Heroes kept turning around on her and running back to Russell, foiling her plans.

Courtney goes up and compliments both Parvati and Sandra. She says Sandra was very loyal and that quality is an underestimated part of the game, letting Sandra explain her loyalty to her original alliance on the Villains.

J.T. steps up next, and he asks Russell whether he considered the jury votes while he was playing the game. J.T. says getting to the end is only half of the game, and that the other half is getting the jury to vote for you. Russell tells J.T. he expects the jury to respect his gameplay. J.T. asks Parvati and Sandra to explain their own game. Parvati tells him that she's physically stronger in challenges than Sandra and been trying hard to survive. Sandra agrees that she's not physically strong, but that she uses her wits instead. She even added that if she known that J.T. has given the idol to Russell and intercept it she would throw it right back to him, which Parvati quickly agrees with her.

Danielle offers congratulations to the final three, but calls out Russell for his lack of skill in jury management. She asks Russell if after hearing some of the jury's responses to him whether he would change anything in his game. Russell says he would still not change anything. Danielle asks him again if he would change anything, telling him that nobody respects the way he went through playing the game, but Russell again says he wouldn't change anything and he regrets nothing. Danielle tells him that it's too bad and sits down.

Jerri is next, and tells the final three she is undecided who to vote for. Jerri asks Russell how the plans changed from voting out Parvati at the final four, to voting her out. Russell tells Jerri that she would have won if he took her. Parvati interjects and tells Jerri that Russell really voted her out so he could get her jury vote. Jerri tells the finalists to make no assumptions.

Candice talks next, and she tells Russell he went too far with the lies he said in the game, lying unnecessarily and being mean spirited in his lies. Candice calls Parvati out, saying she was under Russell's thumb the entire game. Candice says she will be basing her vote based on who treated other people decently.

Rupert is the last to question the finalists. Rupert tells Russell that to be honest in the game is difficult, but that being a lying manipulator is very easy, and that Russell took the easy way out, telling Russell he should not be proud of the game he played. Rupert tells Sandra that he feels bad about his own game he's been swayed a lot after listening to her answers from the jury. He even mention that Sandra kept 'opening the door for them' to get rid of Russell, whom he considers a disgusting human being, but they keep refusing her offer and 'slamming the door in her face'. He thanks Sandra on behalf of the Heroes for her help whether she gets their votes or not. Rupert calls Parvati a very strong player, but that she aligned with such a disgusting human being in Russell. Parvati defends herself by saying that her whole original Villains tribe wanted her out from the beginning. Rupert ends his speech by saying that both Sandra and Parvati deserve to win because they worked hard to get to the end.

After the jury members questioned all of the three finalists, Jeff declares that it's time to vote to decide on who should be the winner of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. Russell did not win any votes from the jury, thus making him the season's second runner-up. Parvati recieved three jury votes from Danielle, Coach, and Jerri. However, it was Sandra that recieved the majority of the jury votes, as she won six of the nine jury votes from all of the original Heroes and Courtney, therefore making Parvati Shallow the runner-up and Sandra Diaz-Twine the Sole Survivor of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, as well as the first Survivor contestant to be the winner of two seasons.

Challenges[]

Challenge: Offer It Up
The castaways would balance ceramic dishes on the end of a balancing arm. As the challenge progresses, host Jeff Probst calls out different dishware that the castaways would stack on the far end of the balance. Should any part of a castaway's stack fall, that castaway would be out of the challenge. The last castaway in the challenge would win.
Winner: Parvati Shallow

Challenge: Blind Maze
The castaways would have to navigate through a maze blindfolded. The first castaway to retrieve four necklaces at stations within the maze and then find the Immunity Necklace would win.
Winner: Russell Hantz
