What are your thoughts on the most recent season of Survivor, Winners at War?
Survivor Royalty
My thoughts on it are basically EoE kind of ruins a spectacle. I don’t mind the mid game re-entry, But not the one so late in the game. And Tony is da bomb. Legit scared my dogs with fist pumps when his fire flag raised
Is it just me, or did Sarah really not play that good of a game? I feel like a lot of people are saying things like she would've won if she won the fire making challenge but I feel like she is the least deserving person in a Final 3 with Michele and Natalie. She gave that whole speech at the final 6 about feminism but I really feel like Tony was in the drivers seat the whole time and she was just one of his minions. I can't think of one move Sarah made all season. Tony blindsided Sophie, won 4 immunities (Sarah won zero), convinced Jeremy to trust him the entire merge which pretty much eliminated the chance of any uprising against him, and he knew to split the vote in case Natalie had an idol at Final 6 when Sarah was COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS and that move honestly should've costed her the game.
I really would've liked to see at the reunion show how many people would've raised their hands saying they'd vote for Sarah if she made it to the end because I would've been SHOCKED if more than 1-2 people voted for her and I like to think that Michele would've got votes too in this scenario.
@JOJOFROMKOCAMO11, Sarah was the one that proposed to vote out Rob.
I think would stand a chance because she has played a good social game and was extremely popular.
Anyone want to hear my super-belated thoughts on the finale and season? No? Well, I’m gonna post them anyways! Would’ve gotten to this sooner if I weren’t working so many hours during the quarantine (worked six days last week, all closing shifts. fml.)
For the finale itself… wow, what an ending! Tony totally deserved that win, and is undoubtedly the King of Survivor now! That was one of the most dominant games ever played, and on an All-Winners season to boot! He really is the full package when it comes to what you want in a castaway: he’s a great, complex character, he has a personality that’s made for T.V., he gets into all sort of antics, but on top of all of that he’s an incredibly savvy game-player! He played some of those winners like they were first-timers, which blows my mind! He isn’t one of the Greats, he is THE Great. Although it’s nothing more than a pipe dream, I would kill for a Sandra vs. Tony season for Survivor 50.
Even though she almost blew it big-time in the buyback challenge, Natalie did good for what she was given, but she just played way too self-preserving at the end. It was a huge mistake not breaking up Sarah and Tony before Final Four, because she loses to both of them no matter what. Still, she had a lot of control over the endgame, which I have to commend. While I hope to see her play again sometime, I’m glad she didn’t get the win here, because I really didn’t want to see an Edger win this time around.
As for Michele, while I might think that she was overhyped as a contender this season, at the end of the day, she’s made it to the end twice without getting voted out, which is something that very few other castaways have achieved. She just lucked out a few too many times in the endgame for me to feel comfy with her winning (especially at final five... wtf Ben??).
On a side note, I am seeing a lot of people complaining that Michele got less votes than Natalie at FTC, because she “deserved” it more. I don’t get it at all and imo that’s a really stupid argument anyways for two reasons: First off, you aren’t entitled to anything on Survivor, including jury votes. You have to earn those votes, and if you lose them, then that’s on you. Second, people were saying the same thing about Aubry after Kaoh Rong, and how she “deserved” to win over Michele, which is just too ironic not to point out. No matter which side of the argument Michele is on, it’s still a stupid argument. Besides, all that changes is that it means she loses slightly less? The whole thing is so ridiculous. I’m bringing this up because a lot of people are dumping on Natalie for it like it’s her fault (I’m seeing this a lot on FaceBook specifically). Even if you aren’t happy with the results, please be respectful, people. Bashing her or the jurors over it isn’t going to change anything, anyways. It really disheartening seeing all of the toxicity in the community, and watching a lot of former castways completely walk away from social media as a result. Be kind. Don’t be petty over small things like this.
As for the season itself, I thought it was solid. My main complaint would obviously be the boot order, which was just a complete massacre of the old-schoolers pre-merge. It would have been better if there were ten pre-HvV winners versus ten post-HvV winners, so that maybe they would have had a chance, but it is what it is. Just sucks that that’s the way it turned out, especially considering this is likely the last time we will see most of them on our TV screens. The new-schoolers were definitely hit and miss, but there were at least enough strong personalities (Tony!!) among them to keep the show interesting after all of the old-schoolers were sent to the Edge, along with top-notch gameplay.
Speaking of the Edge, while I am not a fan of it, it doesn’t ruin the show for me. Basically, I can tolerate it if it has to be there. The Effort Tasks were a nice edition this season, so that less of EoE feels like dead airtime, although the lack of any real conflict on the Edge this time around made it feel a bit duller… where’s Reem when you need her?? The major problem I have with the Edge when compared to similar twists such as The Outcasts, and to a lesser extent Redemption Island, is that it is too easy to farm jury votes while you are on there. This season showed, however, that the win at least isn’t guaranteed if you’re an Edger at FTC. Regardless, EoE is still a flawed twist, and if they are ever going to use it again, at least have it reset at the merge so that way the jury isn’t full of a bunch of pre-mergers. I love Reem with all my heart, but how is supposed to make an educated decision on who to vote for when she was voted out on Day 3?
As for Fire Tokens, I thought they were interesting, and I’d like to see what they can do with them in a future season. Without the Edge. It just isn’t fair that you are rewarded for getting voted out earlier by having more opportunities to collect Fire Tokens on EoE, and by extension a better chance of getting food, buyback advantages, and even idols. It is a ridiculous flaw in the system that culminated in Natalie being completely decked out with advantages by the time the buyback challenge came along. She hustled for those tokens, to her credit, but she had a head start on everyone else to collect them. While selling advantages from the Edge works on paper, I’d prefer not to see these two twists coincide again. Also, maybe in the future, limit the advantages that can be bought to idols clues, or challenge advantages, or heck, even an extra vote or something. Being able to buy an idol or an idol nullifier is just a little too op.
Overall, it was a season worthy of the milestone. While not perfect by any means, what worked about the season REALLY worked, and what didn’t wasn’t intrusive enough to ruin it. It would probably be in the bottom half of my Top Ten, with the finale boosting it a few spots up there.
Well, that all I really have to say. It sucks that we won’t be getting Season 41 anytime in the foreseeable future because of current events, but at least we are heading into the off-season on a high-note.
Jeff: I feel like I'm a little biased, with who I call by last names
"*Wentworth, does not count"
That was mainly due to the presence of two Kell(e)y's that season
Actually, I think Jeff always calls Kelley by her last name now. He called Kelly Wiglesworth by her last name because Wentworth was also on the season.
I really liked it. The only thing was the EoE challenge advantages. Like Natalie was allowed to get 3? What the hell! It was so certain she was going to win
What do you think?
